Ralphs Garlic Ranch Dressing discontinued! Why O Why?!
Went to my local Ralphs yesterday to feed my 2 bottle a month Ralphs Garlic Ranch habit and found out that this product will be discontinued! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!
And looking at the other brands on the shelves I noticed that no other brand has a Garlic Ranch offering.
What is so damn difficult about making a Garlic Ranch dressing?! Yes, there are Garlic Caesars, but no Garlic Ranch. It seems like a no brainer to put together Garlic and Ranch, two of the best flavors in the universe.
I looked on line and Hidden Valley makes one but, at least at Amazon, it was not available, sold out or also discontinued.
Anybody else out there make a garlic ranch dressing that you can buy or order?
Thousand Oaks - Nate 'n Al's is closed
The incoming Umami Burger will be in direct competition with The Counter burger over in Westlake Village. Nice to have two good high end burger places in town.

I just read that the Nate N Al's at The Lakes (2200 E Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks) closed on Monday is now to be replaced by Umami Burger!
For some reason the Nate N Al's there just never measured up and I found their corned beef to be tasteless. There was never a crowd there, maybe it was the location.
I'm looking forward to seeing if Umami survives this "restaurant death zone" of The Lakes.

P&L Burgers - Moorpark: Comments?
I think you were still in Thousand Oaks on Arboles Street. The city of Moorpark is about 5 miles north. And anyone who lives in Thousand Oaks will agree with you about Cisco's. A half hearted attempt at Mexican food at best.
I've lived in T.O for many years and I still haven't tried P&L burgers yet. I think they were probably there before any other other burger joints. But now there is Habit , 5 Guys etc and P&L has lost it's cache, if it ever had any.

Thanks Press! I didn't even know that Hideaway was there and I go up South Lake Lindero Drive and pass it all the time.
The prices seem reasonable too. I think many people think that if you go up that Lake Lindero Country Club driveway that you have to be a member of the club to eat or hang out and that's not true..
It really is hidden away over there!

The wait was from 30 minutes to an hour but at least there was some cool looking custom cars on display in the parking lot to pass the time.

I just got back from Nate 'n Al's and their .65 cent special and I just have to wonder why Nate's deli food is just kind of mediocre and tasteless. The corned beef has the right texture and it's nice and juicy but it's just bland!
They do some things right. Their breakfasts are pretty good and my wife liked the Matzo ball soup but as we sat there we wondered why we didn't just go to Brent's.
No wonder, aside from their 65 cent promotion, that Nate 'n Al's is usually a ghost town at the Lakes in Thousand Oaks.

I like the Fit 2 Be Thai place on Moorpark and Wilbur in Thousand Oaks. Small menu but it's all real fresh and they have a friendly staff too.
They use to have a store in Moorpark but recently sold it.

Nope, just as mysteriously it the prompt has now disappeared from all the websites.
Something must have updated in my anti virus or maybe one of Microsofts regular updates must have taken it away.

When i go to Chowhounds I get a prompt bar from the top of the page in my Internet Explorer that says "This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Microsoft Data Access-Remote Data Services Dat...' from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here...."
Is this something that Chowhound is doing?
These prompt bars at the top of the page are usually asking if i want to run some active x thing but this is the first time I've seen such a prompt from Chowhound.
I scanned my computer with my up to date anti virus and found nothing.
Any ideas?
Steak Recs near Thousand Oaks
Hungry Hunter is closed.
There are two steak places in Thousand Oaks I've seen one is Corrigans and the other is The Meat Locker. both on T.O. Blvd.
I haven't been to either of these and the Chowhounds board is strangely silent on these establishments so I don't know if they are that good. They have been around for ages though.
Pinkberry Opened Today in Westlake Village
Oh, That's what "Shave It" is! I saw the sign and I thought it was a place people went for bikini wax's.
I'll guess I'll have to stop in and give this place a try.
Hungry Hunter has closed
The Hungry Hunter in T.O. had become kind of tired and shabby in it's last years. Although I did have a wonderful prime rib lunch there on my first day when I moved to Thousand Oaks.
It will be very, very interesting to see what goes in that space. Knowing Thousand Oaks it will probably be some chain, but we can all hope.
What's With The 6 PM Line Outside Sprinkles?

All Sprinkles has to do now is sell a cupcake with a green tea yogurt filling and riots would break out around their store.
Pinkberry coming to Westlake Village
Ok, i think this qualifies as a good rumor but i heard from a friend in the know at Pinkberry and they said there was going to be Pinkberry opening next to the Trader Joes at the North Ranch shopping center on Thousand Oaks Blvd.
They also said there was going to be one at the Topanga Mall.
What, a Pinkberry with plenty of parking and welcoming neighbors? Kind of ruins the Pinkberry mystique if you ask me.
Need Malibu Lunch recs for Celeb obsessed out of town relatives
Well, in three weeks we have some relatives in from Chicago and they seem obsessed with dragging my wife and I to Malibu to have lunch and see some celebs. I guess with all the fires and Mel Gibson's little episode it seems to have made the news and sparked the interest of our Windy City kin.
Is there a great lunch spot...ok, I'll settle for a good weekend lunch spot in Malibu where they can get that Malibu experience and and possibly rub up against a celeb or two?
