Worst pizza in Fairfield County?
Pinocchio's is the worst, the one in Pound Ridge is unedible. But I do know a lot of people who order because Dinardo's does not deliver. Its all about convencience. I just go pick mine up at Dinardos.
Coffee in Norwalk/Westport area
I thought Zumbachs was horrible, about as bad as Fourbucks!
My Westport Lunch thread
Figured I was long overdue to add my review of Winfields Deli on Saugatuck Ave in Norwalk. I say long overdue because this is the place I frequent the most. I also use them for catering when I sponsor Luncheons. I never realized until the first time I went but this place is very close to my office even though I am in Westport. Let me start by saying that in another thread somebody said they loved the concept of the owner living upstairs. That was the old setup, the original Winfields was sold two years ago too two young sisters one who trained at the French culinary institute. For a deli I give this place a 7. Each day they have a different pasta salad and several specials. Today was penne with peas, prosciutto in a peppercorn parmesan dressing. Very very good. They also have a good selection of soups in particular I like the black bean with smoked bacon, althought today I had the french onion which was only ok. My favorite thing I have had is the marinated beef wrap, with roasted peppers and gorgonzola cheese. The marinade was really top notch and although I am usually not a london broil fan it was so tender that it could of been Filet had I not been told. They always have a few different desserts which are only ok, if I am in the mood for the something sweet I grab what I think they call magic bar. Overall this place is the best deli in the area I have found, service is always excellent the sisters are very accomodating. The one thing I might add is I find it a little on the pricey side but as the new wave of deli;s goes more gourmet I think thats to be expected.

Have not updated in awhile but have some new reviews to post. So I will start on the rec of ima foodie. I went to Westfair Fish & Chips. This place is stellar probably the best fish and chips I have ever had. The fish was very fresh and the batter was amazing. The french fries were only ok but the fish more than makes up for it. I am not a big fried food love but this was worth the calories. This is one of the best finds so far in Westport. Next time I will try the fresh clams.
Duo: New Stamford Restaurant
Jfood, I have not tried the entrees at Duo but if we are talking strictly fish no comparision to Kotobuki. If Kotobuki is an 8 on the fish Duo is a 4. If you are a gourmet roll lover where the flavor of the rolls overpower the fish then I can see the appeal of Duo. Strictly fish Kotubuki by a wide margin. I also tried Tengda which I thought blew the fish away at Duo.

Thanks for the comments, I have ate at Tengda a few times and will post my review soon. Regarding coffee I live in Pound Ridge right on the New Canaan border so I will check Zumbach's out. I have not had a lot of coffee in Cali but I experienced what I heard was one of the best places. Its called Tartine in the mission district and they are a world famous bakery, that also serves coffee. The espresso is so smooth it did not even need sugar. I found out that they get the beans which are wood roasted from www.mrespresso.com. I am going to order some soon and try making it at home.

Ok Tried Fat Cat Pie today. Thought it was ok but was not wowed by any means. I ordered the sausage and garlic chips. I am a big fan of thin crust but thought it was so thin that it was a little on the dry side. The sauce was not that zesty and the sausage tasted very average. It is not bad by any means, and I would go again but as far as wood and coal fired pizza's go this is average. I took a trip to San Fran and Napa this past august and ate at Delfina's and A16 and they have set the benchmark for thin crust pizza. To this date I have tried several places and nothing even comes close.I tried Pala in the city who copied Delfina's in San Fran almost everything down to the table settings and thought the ingredients were pretty close to Delfinas but they use an electric oven and the crust was sub par.
Asian Temptation- White Plains
Gotta agree with the majority here, this place stinks and is way overpriced. Like others said they spent a ton of money there one of the nicer sushi joints I have seen but the food and service is just horrible. My waitress was rude, I asked here if they could put a little less rice on my roll and she responded that we do not do any special requests. All they have going is the location, anywhere else they are out of business already.

Friday I had lunch with my wife at Mario's next to Westport Train station. From what I gather it has been there a long time. The place was pretty packed for lunch and it seemed like there was a lot of local's there. My wife ordered the lunch special which was cavatelli with broccoli, garlic and oil. She really enjoyed it, I tried a bite and thought it was ok. The Cavatelli was a little soft and I prefer it al dente, in addition I thought it was a little bland. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and asked that they substitute the mesculin with iceberg. The grilled chicken was great, way better than Planet Pizza's. Had great flavor and very tender. The salad had a dressing pre tossed and tasted a little bland but the bill came to $15.00 before tip which I thought was a great value. Also want to add the bread was great.

I will check some of these places out. I am not a Starbucks fan and still have yet to find coffee that can match what they have in California. I will get a cup in the AM!

Ok Next up Matsu Sushi. Worst Sushi I have had in a long time. I want to add that I am very careful with sushi and if I have any sense that a place will not be good I stay away or order chicken Teriyaki LOL. At Matsu I ordered sashimi ala carte. Salmon, tuna some sort of white fish maybe fluke and a spicy tuna roll. The salmon was very tough almost to the point I could not swallow. The tuna is what did me in. It had a strong fish odor and against my better advice I tried it anyway. I had to go to the bathroom and spit it out. Thats where my meal ended except to say that I tried one bite of the spicy tuna figuring maybe the hot sesame oil would hide some of the fish taste but it still could not over power the bad fish. I paid the bill and left..
Really good Chinese or Vietnamese in Westchester?
Sorry did not see the replies, David Chen's is really the best Chinese food I have had. I would love to try some other places but out of the 30 I have tried in Westchester and Fairfield nothing compares. I recommend the hunan chicken.

Next stop Planet Pizza. What can you say about Planet Pizza, I found it to be average Italian food at and average price. The biggest thing in my opinion ,is that it is the most consistent Pizzeria that I know of. You go to anyone of thier six or possibly seven locations now and you get the exact same thing. There is no surprises and while there is no doubt there is better pizza and pasta out there they have it down to a science. This is what has been the key to thier success and why an average pizzeria is one the largest independently owned in the northeast. The owners are three brothers and started with one location in White Plains I think about 10 years ago.. I have been a few times since my return to the area. First time I ordered a large grilled chicken salad. This was easily enough for 3 people. It must of had at least 3 or 4 large chicken breasts on it. I found the salad to be very fresh and the chicken only average. A little on the watery side maybe it was boiled but I doubt it. It had some orange seasoning on it. The main problem I found with the salad was the dressing. I ordered the house balasmic which seemed to have to much vinegar.I probably would of enjoyed a lot more with good dressing. Next time I went I ordered the small grilled chicken. I still could not finish all the chicken they gave you. The pizza is only ok I think the Sicilian is the best slice they have but only when it comes out fresh. Pretty fresh ingredients and you know what you are going to get.
My Westport Lunch thread
My first lunch experience in Westport was not a good one. As I stated earlier I am new to the area so a lot of this is by trial and error. My wife passed by my office for lunch on Valentines day with my 10 month old. We drove around and stumbled upon a place called Angelina's Trattoria. From what I understand this place has been here for many years possibly 20 and I am not sure how. I ordered the chicken scarpiello and my wife ordered the Penne Alla Vodka. First I ate a house salad that came with the meal. The salad was obviosuly pre made and sitting in the fridge for quite some time. The lettuce was ice cold and some what wilted. It was so cold that it hurt my teeth, not joking. The Scarpiello came out and looked more like a chicken cacciatore but gobs of oil were floating at the bottom of the plate. I found it almost unedible. My wife's penne had the same issue too much oil and the pasta was overcooked. I was not expecting five star dining but we all know there are several places in Fairfield and Westchester to get a good bowl of pasta or a chicken dish for lunch. This is a place I would not go back to.........
My Westport Lunch thread
I searched the board and only found a few threads on where to eat lunch in Westport. I am orginally from Westchester county but spent the past 6 years in South Florida. My company just opened an office in Wesport and I have been up here about 4 weeks. To the eye it seems like there are a lot of places to eat but when you get down to it I think there is a lot of low quality places out there. I have already tried several different places and I will post them by themselves.
Duo: New Stamford Restaurant
My wife is a big roll lover, the only roll that I like for the most part is spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. What I have found at the Japanese places around Fairfield and Westchester, the spicy tuna is pre mixed to save time and it usually taste very cold and sometimes on the fishy side because it has been sitting there. The best rolls in my opinion have good balance of fish and rice. Some of the spicy tuna rolls I have had including the one at DUO are stuffed with fish with a tiny layer of rice and taste like you are eating mush. At most good sushi places including Kotobuki the spicy tuna is made to order with a great balance of fish and rice, I think it has to be one of my favorite spicy tuna's. In addition they make a great rainbow roll. We all know the key to having good sushi is that the place has good volume so the fish turns over fast. I can say that the first time I went to Duo it was fairly empty for a Friday night and when I went for lunch on Monday I was the only one there with my client. I might give it one more try but I would order one the entrees. I have tried a few other sushi places recently and will make a another post about those experiences. Also if you like spicy stuff order the Chicken Teriyaki at Kotobuki and ask for Maso's special spicy sauce.
Duo: New Stamford Restaurant
Went to Duo twice over the the past two days and I was not impressed at all. On Friday I took my family there. We had the Rock Shrimp appetizers, duck, and the Jalapeno with Hamachi. I found the shrimp a little on the fishy side, I have had much better Rock shrimp. The only appetizer which I thought was ok was the Hamachi with Jalapeno but not great. We did some of the special rolls for dinner, I forget the names but one that mixes fresh water eel and salt water eel. I really do not believe this was anything different than the same eel that comes packaged that most average sushi places carry. We also had the roll with Foie gras which was not great either. Bill came to $170.00 for 3 people with no drinks and no dessert. On Monday I had to take a client to lunch so I figured I would give it one more chance and go more tradional, with Sashimi and Sushi. We ordered the Sushi and Sashimi Combo with a spicy tuna roll. The fish I found to be very low grade and the spicy tuna was horrible. The portions were tiny. The quality was nothing more than you would get at a local sushi joint if that. You cannot even put this place in the same sentence as Kotobuki in Stamford. The portions are much larger, the quality of the fish is light years ahead and its half the price. Its a great place to take date but if you want quality fish outside of NYC this is not the place.
Really good Chinese or Vietnamese in Westchester?
David Chens in Armonk, best in westchester IMO
Oishi Thai in Miami?
Oishi is way overrated. The thai food and the sushi is very inconsistent. The sushi portions are small and overpriced.
Need Great Miami Restaurant for Client Dinner
I would look at Chef Allens in Aventura. It is one of the best places in south florida. Top notch food and wine and stellar service. http://www.chefallens.com/
