$3,750 Sticker Shock at Bobby Flay Steak

I wouldn't have left him a tip for pulling a sneaky stunt like that.

What method for cooking meat will keep it tasty after 5-6 days?

I've been trying to keep up with this soap opera but have never seen that OP actually has a freezer in his primary residence he barely spends any time. So does he have to cook it at home and wrap in foil to take to work. Because he has no freezer at home. That's my take so far,

Cocktail Party for Charity Etiquette

I think if you are shelling out all that money for a cocktail party with all the bells and whistles you should contribute to the charity that is dear to you yourself. Don't impose on your guests with a charity they might not agree with.

And without getting too personal/technical it wouldn't hurt to give a general idea of what kind of charity it is.

Ina Garten - Make It Ahead: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook

I would think salt and pepper. Pretty much the every day standard abbreviation for those two.

TUMS at a dinner party?

It's always 5 o'clock Somewhere.

Guest Calling the Shots

You might be surprised how many employees would prefer a gift card/holiday cash instead of dinner with people they work with but don't necessarily care to socialize with off the clock. Just a thought.

Cereal and Saturday Morning Cartoons

For the life of me I cannot remember the exact Saturday morning lineup. One thing I do remember is that my brother and I watched it all and then Johnny Quest was the tail end at 11:00 a.m. To me JQ was the dregs.

Captain Crunch was my favorite. Every once in awhile my mother would buy the kind with pink crunchberries by mistake. Ick.

As an aside, does anyone in my coming up on 60 age group remember the only thing on on Sunday morning was Gumby. Was that the pits or what.

Are we meant to tip at a Sonic Drive-In? Or others?

I say if you park and order and a carhop brings it out to you, you should tip.

Our local Sonic has a drive through but no window. You place your order and then pull up to the front curbside and they walk out the door with your food. I haven't seen that type mentioned here yet.

To be honest with you I always had a feeling they might be expecting a tip but I never felt like I should have to because it's a DT.

I haven't been there in ages anyway. I much prefer DQ for the occasional fast food treat. Their onion rings are so much better.

Do you ever feel stupid after the fact at the grocery store?

But I appreciate your comments:--)

Do you ever feel stupid after the fact at the grocery store?

I don't believe I will go back for the penny or soup. For that amount I will just let it go.

I was just checking out receipts from last week and noticed when I took "advantage" of the buy one soup get one for a penny. I picked up 5..

Depardieu: ‘I drink 14 bottles of wine a day’

His new book is out.

"He also admitted to helping an acquaintance dig up newly buried bodies in cemeteries to steal their shoes and jewelry."

Depardieu: ‘I drink 14 bottles of wine a day’

That certainly explains his behavior on the plane that day. That's how I'll always remember him.

Breakroom Freezer

You obviously work for a business that doesn't mind if you store unopened booze on the premises. But I have a feeling I "might" be fired on the spot with mine. Funny how that issue hasn't been addressed yet here.

Minimum Wage Impact on Restaurant (especially FF) Prices

"A major problem with minimum wage jobs is they are often on a rotating schedule of 32 hours per week so employer can avoid paying benefits because it's only part time work. The changing schedule makes getting a second job hard"

And therein lies the rub..
Good point of view.

Yeah, tell me about it. Like I said I'm fed up. If they don't want you logging off a site I consider that a problem.

New Chow.com Homepage

I've never considered myself a Chowhound even though I post here and like the place for the most part.
Funny word if you ask me and nothing I want to be called in polite company.

Healthy Popcorn

When we were growing up our grandparents used one of those old timey wire screen type poppers..no oil. Something along the lines of this but not quite. Can't find the real deal on line:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/161413341361?na...

Popped perfectly every time and you could salt and add melted butter as you please or not later in the bowl.

And then I believe Jiffy-Pop came along..

3% healthcare charge: coming to more receipts near you

This is probably the biggest bunch of bs I've read so far on this thread. And I actually read the whole post. If I received that email from a resto I frequented I would email them right back and tell them to take a damn hike.

A Question About Chilling A Martini Glass

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. But if you absolutely need specifics I guess this is the place to ask.

Feedback on recent CHOW feature stories

[Note: This was split from a thread discussing recent changes in site policy, because it focuses on CHOW editorial content -- The Chowhound Team]

ETA: Thanks CH team. But just in case you didn't make it perfectly clear. I didn't actually start this thread myself and to be honest with you I'm not too crazy about what happened here. But like I said before: This place is something else.

I think TPTB told JB to stir things up here. I can't think of any other
reason why he would have started threads about Anthony Bourdain scaring kids/and the Gay thing along with Ferguson thread. Don't know if they are trying bring new posters in on a google search on these subjects or what. But I think that might be it.

I why didn't you just say it was Roz in your original post. Now I think you're making these stories up.

Yes, but Servorg replied on the other thread and gave a detailed announcement. Same thing in my book.

Sadness

I'm no stranger to internet discussion boards. It always seems when someone feels the need to announce that they are leaving forever and why, 8 out of 10 times they are back before you know it. When I criticized people for doing it I was told they needed "closure".

When I left I left - no announcement.
And no looking back.

Iconic CT foods

Stonington scallops if they actually are SS are unrivaled in my opinion.

And as far as CT grinders go. Finely shredded cabbage has a fresh clean refreshing taste and crispness. Unlike lettuce. But you have to ask for it specially at pizza/grinder places.
