Iconic CT foods

Stonington scallops if they actually are SS are unrivaled in my opinion.

And as far as CT grinders go. Finely shredded cabbage has a fresh clean refreshing taste and crispness. Unlike lettuce. But you have to ask for it specially at pizza/grinder places.

I have never eaten at _______ and I never will!

Since you mentioned a candy machine and nothing else I took it to mean there nothing else available. You Should have mentioned this to the concierge service and 24 hour room service at your hotel.

I have never eaten at _______ and I never will!

So I have a question for you. What will you do if the candy machine says "out of order" and the guy at the front desk won't give in to your demands for the next day crummy bagels? Then there is an Olive Garden next door with snow falling - the "open" light is on and the cozy lights look inviting. Servers are there. Are you going to starve yourself out of principle for the night or what?

Service Dogs Get Couple Kicked Out of Restaurant

Ever since that radio shows hoax about the woman handing out letters for parents of overweight children instead of Halloween candy I've noticed the major networks hold off now. They all jumped on the bandwagon that night like there was no tomorrow. Then complete silence after that. So many scams and hoaxes since then I've lost track. Glad they finally got the word.

I really like that bit about the French HC parking signs. Of course if anyone tried that here can you imagine the viral uproar and lawsuits that would ensue.

Picky eaters are the bane of my existence...and now I live with them

First off, I don't envy you:-( In addition to keeping her favorites in stock that she can fix herself. Maybe you should also fix enough dinner for her too. That way she can't pull a "Well, I would have eaten with you guys but She didn't fix enough" act. You or your husband can have it for lunch the next day so it won't go the waste. Just a thought.

Return "sweet" fruit that isn't sweet?

The only reason I don't return most things I'm less than satisfied with is because of the inconvenience. Stores count on this. But if I had plenty of time on my hands and 80% of the cherries were sour, sure I'd take them back. Why put up with substandard produce if you don't have to.

Dock and Dine Closing-Rebuilding

I can remember when John Kodama and Steve Rubell were struggling with the Steak Loft in Mystic many years ago. John certainly has come a long way since then has he not.

As to what I think about state financing and private sources. Well, that's something else.

Service Dogs Get Couple Kicked Out of Restaurant

A few months ago I was behind a couple at the airport check in counter and she had a small "service dog" in a carryon tote. The agent jokingly asked if the dog bit and she said oh no he was tranquilized because he was afraid of flying. Two hours later I ran into her walking out of the ladies room with the dog on a leash. I guarantee you ten to one she brought the dog in there to pee/poop in a back corner before the flight.

What does this have to do with this thread? Absolutely nothing.

Leave Guy Fieri alone: Why he has nothing to do with the Food Network’s decline

So they brought in the person who was instrumental in developing Marriage Boot Camp along with the highly anticipated pilots Sex Box:

And Charlie Sheen's Bad Influence. The "super enthusiasts" are more than welcome to the new FN as far as I'm concerned.

Okay... I gotta ask, if anyones attempted this.

Some of the news sites I frequent have a category called Strange News. On the off chance the OP is on the up and up, I'll be keeping an eye out..

Okay... I gotta ask, if anyones attempted this.

I find the super high heat and burning off smell with my self clean oven scary enough as is. I can't imagine adding Teflon coated pans to the mix.

And will they be safe to cook with afterwards? I honestly don't know.

NY Times Review of Giada's Las Vegas restaurant. Ouch

Since Giada is a 'regular contributor' on NBC I wonder if Dr. Phil will feel the need to go to bat for her in the upcoming days like he did Guy that time. Only time will tell I guess.

I'll let you do the looking:-) but I too remember hearing/reading somewhere that she was very much hands on with this venture from start to finish. After watching Thanksgiving Live last year I don't doubt that for a minute.

To you and everyone else who commented on the pasta guide, thanks. I zipped right by and missed it. What on earth was she thinking?

Did anyone else notice this at the bottom of the menu:

* Giada Classics
** Raffy favorites
*** Dino favorites

Who the heck cares which dishes are her Aunt Raffy's favorites.

Tipping for popcorn at the movies...? YEP!!!

Your thread title is misleading. My first thought upon seeing it was tip jars at the concession stand? No tip. I go to the movies and buy something at the C stand or not and go in and sit down with the general public. To me that's going to a movie.

You sound like you like the "upscale" movie experience but are not sure if you should or not and whether you should tip or not. Well, only posters on an internet discussion board can point you in the right direction.

Heart Attack Grill Owner Says He's Combating Obesity Epidemic

I don't know which I find more disturbing. Weighing overweight people on a cattle scale in front of everyone in the middle of the restaurant . Or scantily clad "nurses" spanking people who don't finish all their food as a form of punishment/entertainment. But hey, nobody is forcing these people to patronize the place.

I won't click on Eater articles anymore either. They let you in and you can't get out.

I've never been a *Quick* Cook

I see threads here about how can I cook pork chops quick or how can I put dinner on the table in 15 minutes to feed my family because we have sports/extra activities.

I went through all that too but sometimes I'd stew chicken breasts the night before and make a chicken salad for the next night. The other few nights it was take-out.

To walk through the front door after working all day and and rush dinner is/was still
foreign to me.

I'm what's considered a slow cook for relaxation and I have no problem with that:-)

Wasted food due to guest taking too much -- any solutions?

Just chiming in to say I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. I'm pretty sure I would be irritated after several months too.

What I Learned After Taking a Homeless Mother Grocery Shopping

I've noticed the word "beggar" seems to be accepted on the European Chowhound like it's no big deal.

But frankly it surprises me that Americans on this board still use that word.

Peaches are SO wonderful right now...

I baked a lattice top peach pie last week with slightly less than perfect peaches. The recipe called for lemon juice but a few reviewers recommended lime juice because it complimented the peaches much better. And boy were they right.

Commercial string cheese left in my purse since the weekend: still safe to eat?

It's probably ok but I wouldn't give it to a small child on the off chance it's not.

Iphone issue with heart button

I am on iPhone and I just tapped on the heart button for the first time to test it. It quickly registered 1. Then I "unhearted" myself and it went back to zero . Thank god.

What would you do to fix the Food Network

I think I just saw Guy hit an all time low on DD & D's. He was at a place that used ghost peppers in the hot wing sauce. He ate one wing and then picked up the cup of blue cheese dressing and dunked his whole mouth into it. There was dressing on his nose and his goatee was completely drenched with it. What a mess.

It's the 2014 "Crazy for Chicken" episode in case anyone wants to see it.
