How can I use up massive quantities of alcohol in cooking?

I think my dislike of Gin and sweetened alcohol in general clouded my judgement and for that I apologize to you hildegard.

foodie & schrute
Homemade bread, brownies and rhubarb pie? Sure. Someone's leftover/unwanted homemade pineapple vodka? Not so much:-)

I'm afraid foodieX2 is right - I was being sarcastic.

It's not like we're talking about high $ Scotch here. Fruit flavored vodka should be given away or set out by the curb.

Not sure what brand of Gin you have so much of but something tells me it not that good.

In your instance and your inventory don't be afraid to just throw it away.

Yes, palm it off on someone else in a decorative bottle with a gift tag. Your movers, post man and dog walkers will really appreciate the thoughtful gesture on your part.

Pie crust will take care of maybe 1 TBSP.

How big of a Foodie are you? Take the quiz to find out!

74% and not the least bit upset about it.

Stinky cheese - sometimes

Carefully pairing wine - no why?

Photographing food - never.

I could have probably gotten 100% but I chose to be honest with myself.

Lobster Blues

I grew up on the New England coast and have never understood the allure of eating lobster out at a restaurant. For us it was always boiled/grilled in the back yard in summertime. Lazyman's Lobster and lobster rolls are great out but to eat a boiled lobster dinner out at a restaurant all dressed up and wind up with a lobstery stenchy smell on your hands that wipes won't get rid of and bibs and lap napkins be damned. Well, that just never appealed to me or anyone I know.

As an aside - advising people to take cooked lobsters back to their hotel is a really bad idea. I feel sorry for the maids the next day.

Giada says Italians like to use breadcrumbs instead of parmesan. Recipe examples?

I really liked Giada's cooking shows way back when. She was young, upbeat and a breath of fresh air to the FN. But she lost me along the way when she turned into one of those act phony judges for ratings on the competition shows.

And then her pushy behavior on the last Thanksgiving Live showed her true colors.

No jealously on my part. She is a very attractive woman.

But I do find her on air personality "unattractive".

food tv show called the kitchen?

They refer to him as GZ on the show....

When they kept advertising Daniel Ratcliffe of Harry Potter fame last week as their upcoming guest I just rolled my eyes and said no more.

Canning/Pickling/Preserving/Smoking

I don't do any of that anymore but I think it's a great idea. Balkanized means basically splitting into different factions with hostile intentions. That word is a bit strong for this board. Are you perhaps upset that there won't be enough Q's to answer on the HC board or what?

Famous foods from your region you find tasty and delicious.

A bowl of chili, Blue Bell ice cream and an ice cold DR Pepper. Game, set, match:-)

The thread title states foods you find tasty and delicious. Since I'm not a huge BBQ fan I thought I'd let someone else mention it. No 3 hr wait in 105* heat for me:-)

Obama cuts the line at Franklin BBQ in Austin

Every time I hear about this place and how people wait in line for 2-3 hours for plain no frills BBQ it just boggles my mind. To each their own I guess.

HELP!! Extremely picky eaters, out of dinner options!!

A few supportive posts are missing all of sudden because of one semi snarky one.

Like I said let's give this girl a break.

I know it has flour in it but since cooking spray didn't work on a "shoddy" muffin tin I thought it might be worth a shot. Guess not:-)

Try Bakers Joy instead. The store brand is cheaper and works just as well.

Also, a non stick skillet is your friend. Don't crank the heat up so high.

Carmenkats has already said she doesn't need any advice on how to force more vegetables into their diet and yet some of you feel the need to do so.
Shepard's Pie from another poster is an excellent idea.

My addition is King Ranch Chicken noodle casserole:

Cooked shredded chicken
Boiled and drained egg noodles
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can Rotel tomatoes/chilies(but since you don't like tomato sauce) maybe Tabasco to taste
couple Tbsp butter
and plenty of sharp cheddar

Mix all together stovetop until everything melds together.

FN quest for ratings: we are more likely to see Giada De Laurentiis or Bobby Flay cooking “ethnic foods” than we are to see a brown person cooking them.

Bob Tuschman too. He's certainly been on the air often enough.

"Manager's Specials" at supermarket

My local grocery stores have "Manager's Specials" but I won't buy marked down meat. It just doesn't look very appealing to me.

My husband on the other hand loves rummaging around in those bins and has no problem whatsoever with it.

Should a chain comp an item (or offer some other compensation) if an entree is prepared wrong?

Overcooked is one thing. But if I received a medium rare burger I couldn't suck it up and eat pink hamburger meat. Sorry. I would either have to send it back of just eat the fries and pretend no one notices. The last thing I would want to do is sit there with no food while everyone else has theirs.

So I understand what the OP is trying to say here.

Adam Richman goes too far

Apparently the C word isn't nearly as offensive to the Waltons/Board of Directors as the N word.

Although I do agree with another poster that WM will quietly let him go. Like they don't have enough problems with this and that concerning their business practices.

As an aside: I just noticed Marissa Mayer of Yahoo fame is on their BOD. I must have missed that bit of news before.

Unless you belong to the NYC teachers union, mess up and get to sit in a Rubber Room collecting pay and benefits for the rest of your miserable stinking life.

"Adam Richman is in a position of power".

Huh? What kind of power of position does Adam Richman have? Too funny.

Farmhouse Rules--a new show on Food Network

Paula's Party - I got the feeling I was seeing the real Paula for the first time. Wasn't sure if she was going through some type of hormonal change or what. Whatever the reason, I was thoroughly embarrassed for the woman. Awful show.

The only problem with that idea is what to do after the pilot episode. Guess they could always dredge up Anne Thornton( I liked her dessert show) and god only knows who else. Oh geez, this doesn't even bear thinking about..

Is it okay to graze off your plate while in the buffet line?

I think you ought to be able to wait until you get back to the table. If the prime rib station is your last stop and you absolutely can't wait then I reluctantly guess so. But if you still have more stops to make at a self serve buffet, you'll be putting your greasy fingers(remember, napkins are back at the table ) on the serving spoons and if I'm behind you I won't be happy. Unless you try to discreetly wipe them off on your shirt or pants in which case I'll notice that too.
