In a beautiful surrounding...The O Street Mansion is a fantastical castle which you can also tour after you are done eating. Reservations required....

Hitching Post Review - Best Fried Chicken in DC

I don't know how you got past the horrible, stale smell of the "restaurant" the moment you walked in the door....

ugh...

horrible, horrible, stench.

I ordered the gumbo, which turned out to look like something out of a movie....like a joke, when the friend's mother cooked something gelatinous and green.

The fact that they cannot time TWO entrees to come out at the same time is nothing less than pathetic.

If two people, seated at the same table order two entrees at the same time, there is no reason on this earth why both of those entrees should not arrive at the table at the same time.

The one and only, and LAST time I went there, there was NO ONE ELSE there, and my friend ordered the burger, and I ordered the gumbo. My gumbo came out a full TEN MINUTES before the burger.

Ridiculous...

and both were thoroughly disgusting. Granted, I never tried the fried chicken...but based on my experience, I won't be back.

Seriously...the smell of the place alone was SICKENING.

OMIGOD - The Most Amazing Pork in the Crock-Pot!!!!

Heck yeah, I'm about to go pull my shoulder out of the pot right now. Yum.

Good Restaurants in Vienna, Virginia

a great new place that the hubby and I just discovered on 123 is Aditi Bistro. They do quick, reasonable, super tasty, Indian food. You can either order off a menu of dishes prepared to order or you can do what I am terming "indian chipotle." They have a counter full of prepared dishes like chicken vindaloo, chana massala etc that they wrap up burrito style with rice and toppings. The burritos are like 7 bucks and other dishes are between 7-15. All the dishes we've tried were excellent with flavorful spices. I'm addicted.

And of course, for good and inexpensive you can;t forget about Amphora, the 24hr greek diner. Never had a bad meal there and its open all night!

Central: What's the big deal?

Sorry, my husband and I dine out frequently and I've gotta say that when we went the food was delish, the service was great, and the atmosphere was nice as well. Sorry you didn't have that great an experience.

Dress Code for Bazin's on Church

Yum, I love Basin's. Nice casual dress.

Kemble Park Tavern - Terrible Service

You should have gone up to the host stand and asked to speak to a manager.

Oval Room

Oval Room is very stuffy, and over rated...

Best Indian food downtown DC?

I second Rasika! AMAZING!

Market Inn, E Street Washington. Reviews?

UGGGG. Save yourself the time, money, and disappointment. I used to work for NASA at headquarters, which is on the same block. Went twice, once to try it and once to give it a second chance. Totally mediocre, at best.

Sorry, Cakelove Haters.

Glad to hear that you had a good experience! The fist time I went to the one in DC it was like eating a sawdust muffin! Sadly, on my "give them another chance" trip it was the same.

Best restaurant bread

Hops in Alexandria makes these yummy little honey covered turn overs that I could eat a million of that they serve as their dinner rolls! Also, Amphoria Diner in Vienna makes a delish cranberry walnut bread and country white bread that they serve with dinner.

Heart-Shaped Pizza?

Manny and Olga's pizza is also doing a heart shaped pizza for V-day.

Firefly

True, Firefly doesn;t get a lot of praise but it is a solid little place. A buddy and I used to go in for lunch pretty frequently. They have a great grilled salmon BLT.

The last time we were there we did a little urban picnicing from their apps list. Skip the stuffed shrooms. Totally blah.

Puffy Tacos

I saw the Puffy Taco episode of Bobby Flay's Throwdown a little while back and I've drooling over them ever since - but I haven;t seen these on the menu of any of the Tex/Mex places I've ever been too. Anyone know where you can find them around here? Yum, they looked good!!!

Chldrens Birthday cakes -NOVA

mmm, I second Amphora - I have never once had anything that was less than delish!

Late-Night Dining in DC/NoVA

Those who say Amphora in Vienna is "meh" are TOTALLY wrong!

Amphora in Vienna is GREAT!

They're open 24 hours, and offer everything from pancakes (FANTASTIC!) to Gyors and three course dinner specials for $16.

Amphora is a MUST try, in my opinion...

I've had their lamb specials....start off with a bowl of soup... a salad, and then a delicious entree...all for $16-$18.....

and the manager ALWAYS comes over to ask how everything is...

Cafe Trope, anyone?

I was wondering if anyone has been to Cafe Trope at 21st and P NW yet?
Tasting Journal is doing a tasting next week and the menu and price sound compelling. Has anyone tried out this new spot yet, I believe its only been open since Dec. 28th or so.

Where to buy a good (raw) steak

Thats a good suggestion also. I've always been pleased with Costco's meat department for both price and quality.

Where to Find High Tea in DC

The Mayflower Hotel downtown near the Farragut North red line metro stop also does a nice afternoon tea.

Where to buy a good (raw) steak

This is a total no-brainer and will be convenient for you too. Hit up Union Meat Market inside the new Eastern Market tent. I live on the Hill too and have been using this butcher for nearly a decade; they have great meat at reasonable prices.

Brazilian Steakhouse & Salad Bar

Yep, good stuff. My hubby and I went to the one in DC and it was very yummy and the service was good. 45 bucks isn't very pricey in comparison to similar meals elsewhere.

breakfast in D.C.

Yeah, we got married there. It was amazing. The people there are a bit of a pill to work with, totally in lala land. But it was worth it. The brunch is open to the public.

breakfast in D.C.

The hands-down absolute best place for Sunday brunch in DC is one of those no advertising, gotta be in-the-know places called The Mansion on O Street.
http://omansion.com/
Its on O St, NW, just south of Dupont Circle.
The food is to die for. $40 gourmet buffet of hot, cold, and desserts, plus champage. The have all the breakfast food you can imagine omelet/waffle/eggs station....all sorts of hot and cold lunch entrees and a massive dessert buffet that is usually so extensive its set up in an entirely different room. Plus, you can walk around the whole place afterwards, its a combination museum/art gallery/ guest house decorated wildly.
I can guarantee you haven't been to a place like this, and your will have to walk back to your hotel your belly will be so full.

Restaurant gift certificate

How about Bazin's in Vienna - is that too far? Love that place!

Best Pies in Metro region

A great place to buy pie is the Fine Sweet Shop at Eastern Market (reopened in the large tent across from the under-construction East Hall)

Also, and don;t laugh, I'm serious...I've gotten some really yummy pies (a particularly delish straw/rhubarb one (sp?) ) at the bakery at Costco near the Pentagon.
