Suggestions Needed: Summer in NYC

I'm a college student interning in NYC this summer and intend to eat my way through as much of the city as possible. What are some of the places I absolutely cannot miss? Feel free to suggest desserts and quick bites (bagels, pretzels, etc.) as well.

*NB: I know NY must have incredible fine dining restaurants and steakhouses, but I'm in college, so my maximum per meal is about $15.

Quintessential Bay Area in 4 Days

Forgot to mention this, but the places and bites I had been told about prior to this post were:

- Homeroom's mac & cheese
- Bakesale Betty's fried chicken sandwich
- Mission burritos
- San Tung's dry fried chicken
- HRD Coffee Shop's Mongolian cheesesteak
- Z. Cioccolato's fudge
- Cinnaholic
- Anthony's Cookies
- Bob's Donut & Pastry Shop
- Schulzies Bread Pudding

Any comments on this list? (And, of course, additions are encouraged)

It looks like their dinner menu is primarily BBQ. Do they serve the lunch menu (burger, Nashville chicken, etc.) in addition to dinner on the days they're open later?

Quintessential Bay Area in 4 Days

I'm from the South, so I'm not really looking for southern cuisine or meat-and-three joints. However, if there's a place that puts a unique spin on southern food, then I would definitely consider it (like Pine State Biscuits in Portland).

As far as other types of cuisine are concerned, I'm open to literally anything. I'm just looking for the dishes and places that are the best of the best in the Bay Area. (*only caveat being they must be affordable*)

Quintessential Bay Area in 4 Days

It's actually looking like we're going to have closer to a week-and-a-half in the area. We'll be beginning in the wine country, moving down through the Bay Area (including Oakland), and finishing all the way down in Big Sur.

For Mission burritos, how do El Faralito and Little Chihuahua stack up?

Also, on a different topic, I've heard great things about the Mongolian Cheesesteak at HRD Coffee Shop. Is it overrated, or as good as people say it is?

Quintessential Bay Area in 4 Days

I'll be visiting the Bay Area soon with family and we only have about four days. What are the eats we absolutely MUST try? This includes restaurants, food trucks, take-out, bakeries, desserts, ice cream... any place or dish that you feel is a "can't miss".

**Pertaining to restaurants, about $15 per person is as high as we can go

Zoë's Kitchen cookie recipe?

Does anyone have a recipe that makes chocolate chip cookies similar to Zoë's?

I know they get their chewy texture from a combination of margarine AND soybean oil, but I can't seem to find recipes that use margarine/butter + oil.

Meat and 3 in ATX

I'm from the "deep" South where it's a ritual to have a meat & three every Sunday. Are there any places in Austin (or Round Rock) to get some good homecookin' without dropping more than $10? I've had Hoover's and it's pretty decent, but the price was a little steep.

HELP! How do you make flourless torte without a SPRINGFORM PAN?!

I'm trying to make a Chocolate Truffle Torte but I don't have a springform pan. All I have are glass baking dishes! Also, I don't have wax/parchment paper. I only have foil.

Can I troubleshoot these issues and make due with what I have??

Here is the recipe for what I am making:

Best Tex-Mex in Austin

I'm really looking for a place that has excellent enchiladas, chips & salsa, and quesadillas. It doesn't have to be "Tex-Mex" per se.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookie in Austin

The only chocolate chip cookie in Austin I've ever really had was at Coolhaus. It was alright but luckily the ice cream saved it. Where can someone find an excellent cookie?

Best Sunday Lunch Special

I'm looking for a great, reasonably priced lunch spot for after church on Sundays. Anyone know of places that have good Sunday specials? Do you have a favorite after-church spot?
