Looking for Pretzel Rods

I found some in Edmonton!! After trolling a good many (12 or so?) stores, I finally found the rods at Carol's Quality Sweets ( at High Street), when I was going to get some caramel.

yay!

Looking for Pretzel Rods

Does anyone have any new input on this one? I've been to the Italian centre, Army & Navy, K&K foodliner, Superstore, Safeway and Save-On Foods and have yet to find anything resembling pretzel rods!! I have found many online, alas it's too late for that this year....

Help!!

Pretzel rods in Edmonton?

*deleted upon finding a similar post-oops!*

La Tapa in Edmonton

Sadly, I believe La Tapa has closed, or at least moved. Their food was delicious, and I would have highly recommended it...

I too have been looking for Spanish food in Edmonton, no luck yet. Maybe 'A Taste of Edmonton' will give us some options?

Cupcakes in Edmonton?

I have been to both Flirt and Fuss (2nd location) recently.

While they were both tasty, I think the fact that FUSS has a lot more business under their belt already makes all the difference. Everything from their decorating styles, creativity and variety, to their atmosphere and *slightly* cheaper prices for buying a 1/2 dozen, etc really makes me lean towards them as the better choice.

I think I preferred the cake texture at Flirt, but the difference was negligible between the two on that score. FUSS had better frosting, certainly.

I am not optimistic that both shops with last through the year though. If anything, I hate to say it, but Flirt will probably be the first to go...

Edmonton Bars

Seconding the Hundred, in the bottom of the McLeod building downtown. They make excellent cocktails.

For something a little more austere, the Confederation Lounge at the Hotel Macdonald has an excellent cocktail selection, and their Manhattans at least are to die for.

the Hat Bistro and Lounge on Jasper avenue impressed me the other night -

An avalanche of Cupcakes!!!

On Whyte avenue!

not just one, but TWO cupcake shops are opening on Whyte avenue! One has just opened beside the 7-11 at 103rd street, the other is just beside Funky Pickle Pizza-

This seems like a lot of 'boutique' style bakeries in one place...I wonder how long they will last? (though I imagine that will depend on the quality of their product as well...)

Any reports?

Recent resto closures - Edmonton

Churros King on Whyte avenue seems to have closed as well...sad to see it go!

where to eat east of downtown Edmonton

May I recommend Bul-Go-Gi house for Korean BBQ? it's *just* west of Bonnie Doon Mall, and is just fantastic. A very basic atmosphere and serving style, like going to someone's home for supper...

Saturday Brunch in Edmonton

those are most of the places I would go too!

Have you considered dim sum (personal recommendation: Golden Rice Bowl)? Always better with a larger group of people, but it's a nice alternative every one in a while to traditional brunches...

Mexican Spiced Cocoa Hot Chocolate in Edmonton

Planet Organic stores(and other organic markets, I'm sure) carry Dagoba Drinking Chololate. The 'Xocolatl' variety is deliciously spicy and makes a decadent dessert, topped with some whipped creme.

Hot Cross Buns in Edmonton

Thanks for the help everyone!

We did end up going to Cobbs. The buns were delicious! not at all dry and full of raisins and currants...quite traditional, as hot cross buns go.

they were a hit with a discerning crowd!

Next time...I really have to bake some myself though!!

Hot Cross Buns in Edmonton

Hi All!

I am going to *attempt* the making of hot cross buns for a brunch this easter weekend, however...

As a 'back up' plan, does anyone know of a really excellent bakery where I could acquire some? I don't want to resort to the save-on foods/safeway/iga brands. blech.

Happy Easter!

Good Pizza in Edmonton?

Tony's Pizza (www.tonyspizzapalace.com), imho, is the best in Edmonton and does indeed deliver...albeit, within a certain area only.

I would only recommend Funky Pickle after a night of drinking, or if you are really really hungry while roaming Whyte avenue. While they do have wholewheat crusts and their own, "special" sauce, their pizza is by no means spectacular.

DaCapo, next to the Garneau movie Theatre, makes lovely little thin crust pizzas- though they do not deliver. Worth a visit though, if not for their pizzas then for the best cappucino in the city!
