Hi Everyone!

My wife and I are finally going out this Saturday and we have 8:30 reservations at the restaurant. I've never been before, but am asking for some advice on menu selection. We've done the chef's tasting at Clio with the pairing, and I remember that it was about 4 hours of bliss (but I digress)....so I've read the reviews but was wondering if anyone had an opinion here about the Prix Fixe vs. the Degustation vs. the Chef's tasting journey....based on time and value (understanding that expense and value are different).

so what says you chowhounders!? Appreciate the help.

Chacarero - What is my Problem?

I always ask for it extra hot...but most importantly on the beef is I ask fro extra salt...that really makes a difference.

Speeds dogs

My favorite moment was last summer...around 1:30. These two gentelman are in front of me, and Greg recognizes on of them and asks where's he's been. The man said he was just picked up from Beth Israel after bypass surgery (and he was there for awhile for rehab). I wouldn't have believed it but he showed his wrist tag....then proceeded to order two with the works....

you won't need to suppliment the dog....trust me here.

Speeds dogs

Hi all! Well I finally made it over on Saturday. The wife had her first dog and was quite pleased. Turns out she really loved the mustard (and she's not a big mustard person). As we were discussing the dog, what kept coming up was the balance between the seasoning of the dog, the grilling, and the condiments. Overall, it's really well balanced between salty and sweet, with a bite of onion adding a touch of bitterness.

We were there around 12:30 on Saturday and there were about three orders in front of mine, and while we were eating about 3 more groups showed up. Overall, steady but service was quick. Satisfied the Speed's craving(for now)...but it will crop up again in a few weeks!

Authentic deli corned beef

Went to Rueben's in Brookline a few months back to pick up some corned beef for my homeade rye bread...I mean if you have good rye you need good corned beef (or pastrami). I thought it was ok, but was looking for better. I'm looking for somewhere in the local area.

Speeds dogs

Wow...that's good to know. I usually show up around 1-2, and there's just a steady flow of people, but never more then a half dozen like Barmy said. It also takes about five minutes once you order to get your dog. Almost forgot the sauce...yum! What have you all had on your dogs?

Speeds dogs

Has anyone seen the wagon yet? I have been waiting for the spring, and craving a dog with chilli and mustard (a little onion too). When I had my last dog in the late fall they said they'd be back around St. Pats....anyone else craving a Speeds dog yet?

locally raised ham for xmas

I know...I know...it's last minute. We try to eat only local meat, humanly raised. We're looking to buy a ham, and I know Lionette's is sold out. I need some houndly-help as to where I may purchase a ham, or even a turkey last minute. Any help would be great! Happy holidays!

where to buy fresh fish in Southie/Seaport area?

I know that all of the fish wholesalers are down in the seaport area, but is there a good spot to buy fresh fish after 5PM? I live in Southie and feel I don't have a good local outlet to pick up fresh fish for dinner, eventhough I pass right by all the fish places everyday. I appreciate the suggestions.
