Nov/Dec in Christchurch - where to eat ? I just went to the Pegasus Bay Winery and Restaurant on the weekend and was most impressed by the food. It is about 45 minutes out of Christchurch but it's well worth the trip. I've added the place in with a link below. Local Kiwis might have more on the local knowledge of this place as I was visiting from Australia. ----- |

The Great Southern Aussie Pie Tour....(long) That's a helluva write up. Alpaca pie next maybe? |
|
|
There's a great write up on wikipedia about the history: |

Other people here might correct me if I'm wrong but I think Hannah's is the supplier to Harry's. They make a great pie. |

Adding in Stalactites Restaurant ----- |

I have to get into a habit of using the new places feature. Here is a link to Harry's. ----- |

Bakeries in the country seem to produce Australia's finest. Though I did travel to Harry's this week for a cheeky pie. Will put it in my places in my next post |

Having seen the recent post about the best burgers in Sydney I thought it was time to open a can of worms with the topic "Who makes the best meat pies in Australia"? If you're Australian you'll know how passionate some people will be on this topic. If you're from overseas, then you need to bookmark this topic and when you get down this way go Chowhounding for this great Aussie icon. |

I'm a fan of Burgerlicious which have 3 stores in Sydney -- Newtown, Bondi, and Darlinghurst. ----- |

Places test - BreadTop @ World Square - Sydney Sorry should say bottom left. |

Places test - BreadTop @ World Square - Sydney When you go to reply to a topic (or create a new one) is there a link at the bottom right of the box saying "link to a place-beta"? From there you can put in a name of a place with it's location (it works with Google maps). If it's in the database you can edit an existing place. If it's not (which I don't think many Australian ones are right now) you can add your own place from scratch. Let me know how you get on and hopefully I can help further. |

Places test - BreadTop @ World Square - Sydney The new Places feature is live and this is a test: I'm a fan of Breadtop, the asian bakery chain across Sydney (and Melbourne I think). I'll start a place to test this new feature and see how well other Australians can start filling out other restaurant places. ----- |

Food around South Yarra/Melbourne Is Rockpool owned by the same restaurant owners in Sydney? |
|
|
Roo meat okay. It's pretty cheap too and uncomfortably close to the pet food section in the supermarket :-) |
|
|
I'd second Meat Pies (Pot pies they call them in the USA I think). If you can find them Sausage Rolls too. Lamington's could be a good dessert too. |

Food around South Yarra/Melbourne What's Pho? |

Food around South Yarra/Melbourne Thanks for the tips. Yes, staying in South Yarra. |

Food around South Yarra/Melbourne Hi folks, Also, if there is anything new and notable around the city any tips would be welcome too. Thanks in advance. |

Chocolate in Sydney (or perhaps wider) I might be showing my age here but does a restaurant called "Death by Chocolate" still exist? |
|
|
I'm familar with the Chilli in a bread bowl..like con carne. I think I know what you are talking about though...the US use Chilli sauce which is different to the Chilli sauce in Australia. I found it really hard to find sweet chilli over in the US a year or so ago. |
|
|
Buffalo Wings in New Zealand and Australia that are the same as the US are rare. They are never as hot and as you said above cannot do blue cheese. |

Things I miss about American food: |

Favourite Aussie Food bloggers? I'm on the lookout for some good Aussie Food bloggers. What's everyone's favourites out there (or do you have one?) This might be a good place to start: http://pub38.bravenet.com/sitering/sh...? |

BreadTop Melbourne.. review... There are quite a few BreadTop shops in Sydney. In fact, there is one too close to my office at World Square! The Chicken Mushroom Doughnut and Taro bun are two of my favourites. Funny enough there is another shop like BreadTop but under another name that has a bun called "The Big Butt that will Not Lie". Maybe I'll do a review of this particular bun... |

Mexican in Melbourne – Los Amates & Aztec Mexican Excellent. Can we see food photos from your next adventure? |

What's wrong with a good meat pie? Minto, I'd suggest going down to Doyles near your hotel. It's got a nice view of the harbour and seafood is good. Besides that I can't think of much else off the top of my head. Most of the really good restaurants are derived from the cuisines you don't want to eat... |
|
|
You'd maybe need to be more specific on what "ethnic" food you don't like -- Sydney has a great range of tasty food derived from many regions of the world. |

Sydney cheap eats: Sussex Centre Food Court Sussex Centre Food court is located in the heart of Sydney's China town in the CBD. The food court hosts some extremely cheap but authentic Asian food. The food is quick and prices are below $10 for a main meal. Below are some pictures of Sussex Centre Food Court dishes we ate today. Location: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&am... |

Sushi bars have to be my favourite lunchtime food. The best one I've found is Makoto City Sushi Bar on Liverpool St. Unfortunately there is always a line at Makoto City.... Has anyone else got a favourite Sydney Sushi Bar they'd like to share? Reference: http://www.masuya.com.au/en/makoto/ |

What besides Vegemite should I request from Auckland? If you're nuts about Gin then you should request a bottle of South Gin. It's one of my favourite brands of Gin and unique as it is made with native New Zealand kawa kawa leaves, believed by the indigenous Māori people to offer medicinal properties. |
