Awesome Breakfast?

We live in Seattle but whenever we go to Portland we have breakfast at Provence on Alberta. I always get the salmon hash and it is so good!

Substitute for liquor in olive oil cake

I want to make the olive oil cake that I saw on this site, the recipe is below. I want to substitue lemon zest because I don't like orange flavored pastries. I would also prefer to not use liquor because I usually don't like the flavor in cake and if I don't have to purchase liqueur specifically for this recipe I would prefer not to. Should I substitute something else for the liquid? Thank you!

INGREDIENTS

3 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup good-quality extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for coating the pan
1/4 cup amaretto liqueur, such as Disaronno
1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting the pan
1/2 cup coarse-ground cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
Powdered sugar, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Heat the oven to 350°F and arrange a rack in the middle. Coat a 9-inch round cake pan with olive oil and flour; tap out the excess.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until well blended and light in color. Add the milk, measured olive oil, amaretto, and orange zest and mix well.
In another bowl, stir together the measured flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just blended (the batter will be slightly lumpy; do not overmix).
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few crumbs, about 40 to 50 minutes. Remove from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
When the cake has cooled, run a knife around the perimeter of the pan and invert the cake onto a serving plate. Dust with powdered sugar, cut into 12 pieces, and serve.

Cheese with crystals

I LOVE the crystals, too! Aged Goudas and also Beemster XO have them. Beemster XO is my favorite.

Late Thanksgiving dinner, cheapish?

You know, we go to LA every year and never been to Original Pantry Cafe. I forget about it. Thanks!

Late Thanksgiving dinner, cheapish?

We're flying into LAX on Thanksgiving and will get there around 8:00pm or so. We're staying in Koreatown so looking for somewhere between the two, although we don't mind driving a little bit. Last year we ended up at Norm's which was fun. Looking for a similar low-key, cheapish meal. Anything like Norm's with interesting customers? Thanks!

Great suggestion! If it was my party, that's definitely where we'd go. However, looks like we're going to Bahama Breeze. Thanks for your help!

13 Coins is a really good idea, except I think it's too close to Seattle. I think something like that but in Kent or Puyallup maybe?

Restaurant between Seattle and Ft. Lewis

Any suggestions for a restaurant between Seattle and Ft. Lewis for a work-related lunch or dinner? One of our co-workers is leaving and we want to do a goodbye lunch or dinner for him, and we have 2 campuses, 1 close to Ft. Lewis and 1 in South Seattle. Most of the people go to chain restaurants i.e. Olive Garden, and would prefer meat and potatoes type food. Mexican or Italian would also be okay, I think. Chains are fine for this occasion or not, if there's something better. :) This will probably we on a weekend or possibly one night after work. Thanks for your help.

What dishes would you characterize as "Midwestern" and could you give a recipe for one of these dishes, please? (If you can't give a recipe, that's okay, but it would be helpful.)

Local (ish) source for fresh mozzarella and other caprese ingredients?

Salumi's is very good. Has anyone had Samish Bay fresh mozz? I just had some and it's delicious but different from others. It's salty and the texture is not as creamy.

Where to eat? (couple in mid-20's, one week stay)

She said she may get a car to go to the San juans or Mt rainier. She didn't say she would take public transportation to those places.

If price, availability and calories were not a factor.... what food could you eat for every meal for the next 30 days and not get sick of it.

Margarita PIZZA!

Question for those who like Glaceau Vitaminwater

I drink it occasionally for the taste. I like flavored water type drinks and only get the ones that have 0 calories. I don't believe you get any vitamin benefit from drinking them.

Best monte cristo?

My husband says The Velvet Goose in Renton made the best Monte cristos because they dipped the whole sandwich in batter and fried it (deep fried?) Other places don't dip the whole sandwich. It's more like 2 pieces of French toast as the bread. Does anyone know of a place that makes them like The Velvet Goose? And who makes the best Monte Cristo in your opinion? Thank you.
