I-95 between Stamford and Bronx

I just started a new job where i'll be driving from Queens to Stamford (and back)a couple times a week.
I know this isn't very chowhoundish - but i'll be working late some nights - and i just want to find a place where i pick up dinner and drive home instead of worrying about cooking after 9pm.
any suggestion for places that's easy to get to from I-95 in Stamford or Greenwich. I'm even open to fast food joints. right now i don't know anything - and can't seem to find anything either.

Work dinner in downtown Chicago

Hi,
I need recommendations for a nice restaurant near the Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago - this is for week of April 14th. There will be between 15-20 people attending - so a place that takes reservations. We are coming from New York City. Price is no issue. Something nice, elegant with a decent variety of options and a nice bar that high-level executives can enjoy. Couple of examples of restaurants we went to recently - Smith & Wollensky's, Capital Grill, Rainbow Room, Cite, Rosa Mexicano, Pampano, Fulvios and Nicky Marina's in Florida.
I appreciate the help!

agree about Blue Water Grill. the food was decent but service was horrible. we made reservations - arrived 15 minutes early. and it still took over 45 minutes to seat us. and that was just the beginning of the bad service - absent-minded waitress, being rushed, lack of silverware, asking repeatedly for silverware or cream for our coffee.

What restaurant did you eat at on Thanksgiving?

i ate at bluewater grill. first time there. and disappointed in the service.
we arrived 15 minutes early for our reservations. watched other people who had a later reservation get seated before us. they kept on confusing walk-ins w/ people w/ reservations. and they told us we had to wait till our whole party arrived before seating us - which we were all there - and they allowed other parties to sit w/ half their party. oh and they kept on forgoetting our names and why we were standing there. the 'lobby' area was a madhouse and really disorganized. finally we were seated about 40 minutes after our reservation time. took a long time before a server stopped by. had to ask for water and silverware repeatedly. we only got the bread basket after asking for it after a 15 minute wait. the meal itself was pretty good. we got the pre-fix turkey special. the entree came way too quickly after the appetizers - we were still finishing up. and the desert menu didn't really explain the desert - we thought we were getting pecan pie - but it was a chocolate pie w/ a few pecans in it. had to ask for tea - wasn't offered to us even though part of the pre-fix special. had to ask for cream w/ the coffee. had to ask for our water glasses and other drinks to be refilled through out the meal. and then as we were enjoying the tea. as we got the tea - we also go the bill. and as we were still drinking the tea - the manager stopped by picking up the checkbook and we had to tell him we hadn't even gotten to it as we were still finishing up our meal. he was not pleased and made some snotty comment. i hate that feeling of being rushed out - especially on a holiday where i want to enjoy spending time w/ my company.
i understand the place being really busy - but for hearing decent reviews - i was expecting better service. thankfully the company was good and i did enjoy the conversation and the turkey&stuffing.

Hill Country - Hype Country

i was there on Wed. night. not that impressed either. I got the lean brisket and it also had quite a bit of fat still on it. and it was dry and not much flavor and kind of cold. i had to use a lot of bbq sauce. i got 2 pork ribs - which i liked better due to the peppered rub. and we got 3 sides - mac&cheese, sweet potatoes, and cabbage coleslaw. did not like the cabbage coleslaw at all - weird flavored. sweet potatoes were good - but too sweet. and mac&cheese wasn't bad - but not much in the little cup the penne has a lot of air inbetween pieces vs. the normal elbow macaroni.
the loud music was ridiculious. they tried making us sit downstairs which was ridiculiously warm. and i had to look at 5 other tables for forks b/c we couldn't find our 'server' - she only showed up once to bring us water.
i think rub will be a more regular stop for me - i really like the pulled pork sandwich. hill country - i may go back w/ a group of people b/c the food is easy to share. the meat was too much for me. but it's not high up on my list.

Wait time for Serendipity 3?

I've gone on a Friday night - i stopped by at 9pm to sign up - had a 2 hour wait - so was seated around 11pm. In the meantime - we took the tram to Roosevelt Island and walked around and enjoyed the views of manhattan for a bit. And then stopped at the bar by the Tram station on 2nd avenue for a drink. and still made it back in plenty of time to get our table.

Dilemma: 2 turkeys/1 oven

I've done 2 turkeys before - one in the oven and the other on the grill. We used a gas grill - and marinated the turkey in a tandoori rub. We had over 30 people - and people ate up the tandoori turkey - it was the hit of the day. and everyone now asks for it each year. the grill gave it a great flavor.
and it was super easy to cook both at the same time - both did not require much checking/low maintenaince.

Dinner around Port Authority

Hi,
I'm looking for a decent/reasonable place around 42nd and 8th for a quick dinner w/ a friend tonight. Under $20 (per person - no drinks) would be grand. We're open to all types of food. but a specific thai or mexican recommendation would be nice.
Thanks!

Ideas for an Asian-Inspired Thanksgiving

i have made turkey with a tandoori rub before. it turned out fabulous and everyone ate it up - we had no leftovers!
for desert - my mom ususally makes one indian dish - homemade gulab jamans or kher (rice pudding).
and mix up the sides a bit. throw in a few indian style sides. maybe this mashed roasted eggplant dish w/ indian spices. or maybe another veggie dish instead of plain old green beans and mashed potatoes.
we also do grilled corn w/ indian spices.
and make samosas as appetizers. or chat masala.

Chola -- What to order?

i've gone for dinner a few times - my fav 'fancy' indian place..

Runs in the Family?

i definitely became a chowhound because of my parents. dad is willing to eat anything at least once. when they went grocery shopping - both my parents always brought home new things. i especially remember when my dad brought home a durian - our car smelled like one for weeks.. my mom is an excellent cook - willing to try new recipes - made all sorts of american and asian dishes from scratch. we tried all levles of restaurants - from dives to top notch. traveled internationally and ate everything - fish head curry, frog legs, beans on toast. so happy i have parents who encourage open-mindness to new things.

Restaurant with evening entertainment?

My parents are visiting this weekend. And i'm trying to figure out what to do on Saturday or Sunday night. They are not too keen on the broadway show or play idea. So I was thinking a nice long dinner dinner. I remember in Hong Kong and Singapore and England - the fancy indian restaurants would have musicians singing gazals which my parents loved. Is there something similar in NYC?
i'm open to all suggestions. doesn't even have to be a restaurant - could be a bar. or even just something that your parents/family really enjoyed when visiting NYC. i'm at a complete loss. help!! :)

What are the best foods to buy at Costco? [Moved from General Topics Board]

i love the fresh lamb.
rotisserie chicken
crossiants
cheeses

i live in a little apartment. so occasionally - i have bought a large package of chicken/sausage/romaine lettuce/etc and then split w/ the friends. so that way your whole fridge/friedge isn't full of just one thing. and you can share the good quality and cheap costs w/ other people.

just be careful of buying those huge jars of sauces etc. i once bought this gigantic bottle of bbq sauce - over a year later - it was still 1/2 full. i had to chuck b/c it smelled funky. so in that instance - i didn't save any $. even though i'm tempted to buy a lot of stuff - now i only stick to items that i really need or know i'll eat within a certain time limit - or you can go nuts shopping there.

Max Brenner

i also was not impressed with max brenner. i went w/ some friends who were from out of town and had to try the place. i had a savory waffle with sausage - and it was too salty and overcooked. and then the hot chocolate - which was lukewarm and too sweet - like the style that comes out of the machine at a 7-11. maybe i ordered the wrong things?
