Chinese food quest in the suburbs

Su Tao in Frazer! Vegan, fresh, delicious!

My epic smoked seitan experiment!

Thank you for this! I will be trying this immediately!

Do you drink Wawa coffee?

I enjoy WaWa Dark Roast with half and half. I wish DD would allow one to add cream/sugar for oneself. I enjoy Starbucks but only if all of my bills are paid and I have spare dollars. When McD's has the 69 cents promotion, I go for it. I do enjoy Chick-fil-A's dark roast.

What is your go-to 6 pack to take to a get together....

Oh, yes! Yuengling Lager (I also bring a 6 of light). Also pairs well with cigars!

What are you drinking right now?

Victory Golden Monkey... delightful!

Need ideas for bean salad

Cucumbers, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes

What is the most unusual, but tasty, sandwich you make or have made?

This is a vegan recipe: Toast two slices of rye bread or whatever wonderfully grainy bread you have handy. Smear both slices with a homemade thousand isalnd dressing (vegan mayo, pickle relish, tomato paste, cayenne & lemon juice), 4 slices of veggie "bacon" pan fried, heated sauerkraut, rice "cheese" (swiss flavor). WOW! I could set up housekeeping in this sandwich.

New Budweiser American Ale

Has anyone tried the Budweiser American Ale? Inasmuch as generally avoid Budweiser, I decided to give it a go (thank God for retailers where you can buy one bottle at a time). Budweiser is trying to be something that it is not. I fear that my knowledge of beer nomenclature is not up to describing the tastes, etc. I simply did not like it. Perhaps I can explain like this: it's like hoping for Bruce Springsteen and getting Justin Guarini.

the best cream of mushroom soup --- please

It's really awesome of yo to make soup for a friend for lunches, etc. Kudos!

What else besides meat is heavenly in the cast-iron skillet?

A hearty concurrence with home fries and cornbread. I also use mine every Christmas morning for Dutch Babies -- a delectable, buttery, powdered sugary, pancake-like deliciousness (topped with fresh raspberries & mint sprigs)

What to do with Basil, besides pesto?

Pasta, artichoke hearts, capers, sundried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, cannellini beans, fresh BASIL, fresh oregano, fresh thyme, toss with parmesan cheese, enjoy.

Best Breakfast in the West Chester area?

I am enamored with the Classic Diner on Rt 30 in Frazer. Good coffee. Share with a friend or be ready to take home left overs.

What are you drinking right now?

Just returned from Honduras where you just can't go wrong with Salva Vida or Imperial. Wish I could find them in the States.

What are your favorite cookbooks of all time?

I am definitely in the "Joy of Cooking" camp. My copy is quite tattered, splattered and loved. I use quite a few recipies from "Vegetarian Times" as well.

This Year's Seasonals

I am a true fan of Troeg's Mad Elf.

I am currently enjoying a Sam Adams Old Fezziwig Ale.

What are you drinking right now?

Today it is Troeg's Mad Elf Ale -- 11% alcohol.. tasty. honey, chocolate and cherries

Your Favorite Soup Recipe?

Butternut or Acorn Squash Soup
1 small squash baked with ginger and curry powder
1 onion caramelized
puree squash and onions in blender or processor with goat cheese and sage
meanwhile, heat stock (I use homemade vegetable broth -- I'm vegetarian, but any stock will do) stir in soy milk or cream and then stir in puree -- heat thoroughly and serve with sage leaves as garnish and chunks of goat cheese.

Best Local Beer

I must agree with the last poster; go to Victory Brewing! Excellent beer )try the Golden Monkey) and the food is good for being a brew pub. I enjoy the mushroom pizza.

What are you drinking right now?

Yuengling Lager... my "go to" beer.

Best sandwich I ever invented

First, a trip to the local grower's market is necessary. The Italian Rustic bread from Big Sky Bakery, the herbed cheddar from the Amish cheese stand and tomatoes from the "no pesticide" stand. Put all of this together with a fine mustard and I'm in sandwich heaven. (Sometimes, I add green onions).

What's Your Favorite Domestic Beer and Why?

I'm going to have to go with Victory (I live 2 blocks from the brew house). I am quite partial to the Golden Monkey! Its a sippin' beer...

Simple Yet Impressive Hors D'oeuvres?

A couple of suggestions that have been winners for me: Cream Cheese & Scallion won-tons. Use store bought won ton wrappers. Mix a block of cream cheese with a bunch (literally one bunch from the market or store) of scallions, place a tablespoon of filling in each wrapper, and close (I use the Joyce Chen won ton maker). Deep fry and serve on a colorful platter with chives and a few red peppers as garnish. Steamed shrimp with mango rum butter sauce -- put coconut rum in the steaming water for an extra yummy taste -- alternatively, buy already cleaned shrimp, bread in panko bread crumbs, deep fry and use the mango rum butter sauce as a dip. Quesadillas -- put anything on a tortilla with cheese use a paninni maker or large skillet, top with salsa and sour cream. Dee-lish!

calling all cooks: pork tenderloin, corn tortillas

Greetings! My favorite pork tenderlon recipie is to butterfly the tenderloin, marinade it in sour apple schnapps with onion, garlic and granny smith apples overnight. Pull from marinade stuff with fresh onion, garlic and granny smith apples, tie with cookig twine and then a nice slow grill until 145-150. Always tender and flavorful.
