P.F. Changs!

Tex-Mex isn't actually Americanized Mexican. It started as part of the Indian culture, once conquered by the Spanish adopted the foods from there and then moved to the border. The history is more complex than my little blurb, but I wanted to at least make a point of saying that.

P.F. Changs!

It's gross and greasy. There are so many non-chains that it seems silly to even try it.

Have you looked at The Saloon? I always enjoy a good veal chop from there. http://www.saloonrestaurant.net/

Lunch in Boca for 9 yr. anniversary

We actually have a couple of those in Dallas and they are always pleasant meals. Ya got anything else? We are willing to drive up to 30 minutes.

Where's the hotter food scene - Dallas or Houston?

I hope you enjoy the restaurant as much as I do. I highly recommend the fried halibut and the soft shell crabs in sar char (spelling is poor). They also have a Chinese menu if you and your wife are interested. And of course don't forget the reason I went in the first place Xiao-Long-Bao. I try to go at least once a week. I am addicted to them.

Lunch in Boca for 9 yr. anniversary

My husband and I will be in town visiting family over the holidays. Our 9 yr. anniversary is on December 24th, and seeing as we already having evening obligations, our only free time is lunch. We both enjoy a good piece of fish or some fabulous seafood. Please point us in the right direction.

There is now good Chinese, and it goes by the name of Yao Fuzi. it is in Plano two doors down from Blue Goose. They serve the soup dumplings there, and they far superior to Shanghai Restaurant. As a point of reference I moved here from NYC, am originally from Philly and I am Jewish, hence born and bred on Chinese. So I can say w/ authority and knowledge that Yao Fuzi is delicious Chinese that I would travel to eat.

Philly airport area... any chance for good eats?

I would go to Hello Cafe, on Washington at 6th street for Chinese. It is a pretty short drive from the airport. I would got to Dimitri's in Queen Village for Greek, they are BYOB. A little further, but very tasty, in my opinion. For Italian got to Dante and Luigi's. I have attached a link for you. http://www.danteandluigis.com/index.htm. They even have directions on their website to get there.

Grimaldi's - Dallas

I am psyched! I love good pizza and after moving here from NY it has been my mission to find some. That and soup dumplings, which have been found and devoured many times over. I can't wait till they open. My heart is all aflutter :)

what the #*#@**@@!$$? Has happened to D'Allesandro's Cheesesteaks?

I just went to Dalessandro's with the mom, who's been going there since her days at Textile also the year they opened, and we loved them. She didn't say anything about them being better back in the day. And I have been going there since the 1970's and my love for their cheesesteak sauce and fried onions has not died either. When in the 80's did they switch hands? I don't recall and major changes either.

Chinese for Jewish Xmas Eve

Try Hello on Washington at 7th St. or 8th St. They have tons of offerings and they have tables to accommodate your party. It is one of the best Chinese places in town and it also serves Korean dishes. If not that I second Sang Kee. They are yummy too and also have room upstairs for larger parties.

Lunch in Dallas

Seriously if you're in Texas you need to go and have BBQ. Texas is known for it, they make great brisket and sausage and ribs and nobody coming from the east coast (myself included) has ever been disappointed with a trip to Sonny Bryan's. I know many of you don't think that their BBQ is good, but coming from both Philly and NYC I love it, my whole family loves it and all my friends that have visited have loved it too. It is far from mid-price (pretty cheap actually), the atmosphere is that you sit at school desks and eat from plastic trays, but the food is delicious. Try one of the others for dinner. Get down and dirty for lunch and say yes to BBQ and onion rings. But you have to go to the one on Inwood across from UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Lunch spot Philly U / Blue Bell trip - Ridge pike

Try McNally's Tavern in Chestnut Hill. Now that place is an institution. It is located on Germantown Ave. and makes a great sandwich. Try their most famous and most delicious sandwich, The Schmitter.

[DAL] Latkes to Go?

I hear that. And my mom would always grate a little bit of her knuckle in it, until the good olde food processor. They are quite a production, but I still think I may make them this weekend.

[DAL] Latkes to Go?

Yes, and I got them at Central Market this evening. I heated them up in toaster oven and ate them with the Central Market homemade apple sauce. They were delicious! They also have brisket/pot roast and chopped chicken liver, both of which are super ethnic and Chanukah appropriate.

Great bistro in N Dallas Area?

I disagree on Maguire's. The food isn't consistent and the service is awful. The first time I went the server had the audacity to talk down to me. The second time 6 of us went to for brunch and we had no idea who was waiting on us and the order to about an hour to get to our table, and there were only 3 other occupied tables. I say Lavendou. They are French country though, not a bistro. The atmosphere is very nice and the food tasty.

Most Romantic Restaurant In North Dallas?

If she likes Chinese Yao Fuzi is great! Since you're looking at keeping the cost down, Chinese is perfect because you can order little appetizers and feel satisfied at the end. This place is fabulous. It is beautiful inside and the food that they serve is outstanding. Have the soup dumplings. They are quite a treat.

If she likes Greek, Zorba's is good. I don't believe it is terribly expensive either.

favorite soup in philly?

I think I may have found the best soup in Philly, and it s not in China town, but it is Chinese. Just last weekend I went to Hello, in South Philly. This place is fantastic!!!! I had a duck noodle soup that hit the spot. The broth was out of this world delicious. It is on Washington a few blocks Mummers Museum in a strip mall.

Famous 4th street Deli-Philly

I beg to differ on service, it ha never been good and under new ownership it still isn't very good. However the whitefish salad is good. It has actual pieces of whitefish which makes it delicious. I really enjoyed that as well as my well done fries. The place is an institution so if you haven't been in a while it is your civic duty to go.

Italain in Philly burbs

i was thinking of trying Ristorante Castello, what do you think? I am not looking for a heavy red sauce pasta meal. I was hoping for fresh pasta and something slightly more refined. And I love a good veal milanese. And I am sorry to hear such bad things about totaro's. the menu looked good.

[DFW] Name Your Favorite Gourmet/International Grocery Stores

For South African and English staples go to Gourmet Food For U at the corner of Frankford and Hillcrest. Hirsch's in Plano is a great butcher. TJ's Fish Market in Dallas for super fresh fish. Not sure if you call them specialty markets, but they specialize and do a good job a having good quality items in their stores.
