Wafa's Mediterranean in Forest Hills

I've taken the bus. It's pretty easy. It stops in front of the vitamin shoppe/perfumia area on 71st Continental. It goes straight through the gardens to metropolitan ave -about a 10 min bus ride.

HELP!! In Forest Hills

I went a few weeks ago and thought the food was pretty good. It's Italian but has some fairly interesting options as entrees. I got a white fish (I forget which kind) baked in a pizza shell. My husband had some sort of seafood stew. Very good. For dessert we stuck with our tried and true tiramisu, but it's
one of the best tiramusus I've had. Very good. And the owners were very friendly. No
liquor license.

HELP!! In Forest Hills

Why does everyone talk about Dee's so much? Been there 3 times and thought the food was average at best.

What's the new thai place near metropolitan? I'll check it out.
This is a long post, not sure if it's been mentioned, but Wafa's is excellent. It's a Lebanese restaurant on Metropolitan and I believe 72nd ave.

Pollo Inka on QB

I've gotten take-out from polla inka a few times. Be warned, the take-out takes a while so order about an hour before you want to eat! I thought the food was pretty good and the portions are great for the price. Chicken and the rice and beans are always delicious. Have not tried the plantains. Ask for the green hot sauce - it's delicious.

Forest Hills Takeout

I agree that forest hills delivery is awful. I hate takeout connection.

I love wafas but as far as I know, they don't deliver. Has that changed? I think wafas is my new fav local place.
Not a big fan of Baluchis at all (but I'm indian, so not a fan of that type of indian food).

Never tried tiera sana- I think I read bad reviews around chowhound, but we'll give it a shot! Thanks.

Polla inka is on 75th and their chicken is pretty good. Ask for the spicy sauce if you order
the delivery. Just a warning though- delivery is REALLY slow- give them about an hour
to deliver your food!

Forest Hills Takeout

I'm running out of Forest Hills takeout options. We work long hours so tend to order take out a lot. We've exhausted Ripe! Anyone try any new take-out or have recommendations besides Ripe, sushitime, thai austin, and the Peruvian chicken place on 75th?
What are your tried and true take out choices?

Thanks.

I tried Coatzingo a few weeks ago after reading the rave reviews on this site and was pretty disappointed. the tacos were okay, but definitely not spectacular.

Wonderful Lebanese in Forest Hills- Please Support Wafa's!

bigjeff-
Ask her to make your food spicy and she will. We've asked for "spicy'' shwarma and it was just right. This is forest hills, so in general things are a bit bland to satisfy the local taste (unlike corona or jackson heights). But if you ask, it'll be spicy and delicious!

Review - Casa de Elian (Forest Hills)

Yes I agree. I used to live in Elmhurst so I know the spanish and asian options are a lot better in elmhurst/corona/jackson heights than in FH, but I go to casa de elian in part to support a local struggling business. FH is just lacking in local business -too many banks and chains.

New wine bar on Union....Bussaco

Depends what time and when you are going. I drove there on a friday night and parked about a half block away. Lots of street parking. Might not be so much available on a sat night.

Best Pizza in Queens ??

Singhas is my absolute favorite pizza in queens. And although it's a chain- the best is the Elmhurst location. Forest hills pizza is just not that great. AJs has gone downhill since the new owners came in.

New wine bar on Union....Bussaco

We went to Bussaco last night. The "freshest mozzarella" appetizer was delicious, and I loved the bread. But I thought the entrees were on the expensive side, I wish they had more options for less money. I ended up ordering the burger- which came with absolutely delicious pickles. Got the panna cotta for dessert- which was OK. I love the fact that the wines come in half-pours! Service was excellent. I would go back- but sit at the bar and order off the bar menu.

Review - Casa de Elian (Forest Hills)

Nevermind- we decided to go there for dinner tonight and food was still good. I'm sorry the place isn't doing well. It's definitely a good addition to forest hills. and for recession eats - you can fill yourself up on three tacos for $8!
The tacos are delicious.

Has anyone been there recently? Thinking of going tonight but I'm wondering if they're cutting costs since they're obviously closing soon. Has the food been good in the past few weeks?

I tried this place tonight after reading the positive posts. It's SOOO yummy!!!
I think the lamb gyro was about $7 or $8 and it's huge! Definitely enough to share. the tabouleh and baba ganoush are really good. and the baklava is to die for!! Well worth the calories.

Oko frozen yogurt coming to Forest Hills!

I love this place. They really don't have many desserts, but their sandwiches, cappuccino, and frozen yogurt are great. And SO incredibly friendly!

Sushi in Forest Hills/Rego Park

There is a new place called sushitime that opened up where sushi oh used to be. I thought it was decent for take out. THe prices are a bit steep, but the portions are large. I did not like the austin roll- they mash up their spicy tuna rather than had it in pieces, and I just don't like that mashed mayo-ish type of tuna. Plus it came with something missing- but I forget what was missing. the spicy shrimp tempura was good, and the veggie roll was standard. If you need a take out place and live in FH, it will satisfy your craving, and it's definitely better than bestsushi.com, but I wouldn't say it's amazing.

Danny Brown "DB" Wine Bar in Forest Hills

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad New Years experience. I love DB but thought the new years event was a bit overpriced for queens, so we didn't do it.

We go to DB often, at least once a month- but you know what I hate about the place? They've had the SAME dessert menu forever! So boring. I wish they'd at least experiment with one seasonal item.

1 day in Forest Hills, what's not to be missed?

I agree about Eddie's. It's overhyped- I've found that it's disorganized and dirty, and the ice-cream is pretty standard. I also don't see what the fuss is about Dees (though I love Nick's)

Review - Casa de Elian (Forest Hills)

I also agree that it is good, but at the same time, the entrees (and sides) are a bit pricey. We usually stick to the appetizers and the flan (the flan is amazing!). And I agree somewhat about the service issues. While we've never encountered any rudeness (in fact, the staff have always been very polite and accommodating), they do screw up our order a lot.
All in all though, I would recommend it to someone in the neighborhood.

I agree about martha's bakery. It's so disgustingly sweet, I just don't get the fuss over that place. Bonelle's on the other hand has great baked goods.

Casa de Elian--new Mexican on Metropolitan

I've tried this place twice. I agree with the comments regarding the space- the chairs are terribly uncomfortable.

The corn is good, and the taco trio is amazing! The chicken with mole sauce is prob one of the best mole sauces I've had.
Now the bad- we went in on a night where they were serving steak as a special. the steak was awful! It wasn't the flavoring, it was just a very bad piece of meat! In all honesty, the worst beef I've had in a long while!
Also, I agree that a vegetarian entree is needed.

Lastly, the flan is absolute amazing- Its so good, its well worth the calories!

DB Wine Bar, Forest Hills?

Service is great, wines are excellent, and my desserts have always been good. But I think they really could improve the meats in their cheese and meat platter. The cheeses are good, but the meats are lacking flavor.

Ganesh Temple, Sai Bhavan, or Dosa Hut?

Ganesh temple (right next to dosa hut) has much better dosas. The cooks are actually from udipi. Go downstairs to the canteen for the dosas.

Babouche in Park Slope?

I went last night and I wasn't impressed. First I ordered the tuna and it was WAY overcooked and tasted very fishy. It was supposed to come with avocado, but there was no avocado. I asked the waiter (in case they forgot it) and he said "if its not there, we must be out."

Very pricey for a not so stellar dish.

On the other hand, we had a pretty good lamb skewer app. The ambiance is excellent, very nice decor. But I wouldn't return either, the $$ are too high for the food, which I think could do with more flavor.

Thai Austin Forest Hills

I've been going to Thai Austin in Forest Hills since it opened. The food is really good, but whats with the service?? At first I thought because they're new, but its been over a year now and the service is still horrible!!! Last time I went there with family, we waited forever for menus, then we finally got our appetizers, but no plates or forks!!! Went there again tonight and waited about a 1/2 hr for dessert (though there were only a handful of people in the place), forever for the check, the dessert was the wrong flavor, etc.

Mind you, I'm really not that high maintenance, and generally pretty patient, but I'm getting a bit put off with the horrible in-house dining experience here.

I think I'm going to treat Thai Austin as a take-out place only.

ANyone else have similar experiences?
