Special Occasion in New Orleans

Congratulations on your son's graduation. We haven't tried Stella yet either, though it's been on our list. (Tough to get to every great restaurant in NOLA in 4 yrs!) The commencement ceremonies begin at 4PM, with the undergrad ceremony beginning at 5:30. Wave goodbye is at 6:30 (is it worth attending?) next door at Mardi Gras world. Unfortunately, graduation will not be held in the superdome as it is traditionally, due to construction...We'll be in the convention center. So I'm thinking dinner at 8? Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks, I'll prob go with August. From what I've read, Galatoires doesnt accept res except for the upper room, which doesn't seem to be recommended. We'll try to hit that on our next trip to NOLA in March. Appreciate your help.

okay, I know it's early ...I need a really good pick for my daughter's Tulane graduation in May. We've been fortunate to have had the opportunity these past 3+ yrs to sample the cuisine of NOLA.. I want something really special for the last hurrah. Am considering August, Pelican Club & Galatoire's.
Some of our favorites over the past few yrs have been Dickie Brennan's steakhouse, Bacco's, GWFins, Arnauds & Commander's.
Not huge fans of Dante's K (brunch excluded), Brigtsens or Mr. B's.
We have some non-adventurous eaters in the crowd. Steaks & seafood all good. Thanks!

what do I order?

Visiting daughter at Tulane this weekend. We have three dinners planned: Cuvee, Brigtsen's and Bourbon House. A picky eater or two among the crowd. (No duck, rabbit or alligator!) Any recommendations? How about dessert? Thanks!

Taking in a matinee a few days after Christmas. Any suggestions for dinner within walking distance from the marriott marquis? Children 18 and 21 who enjoy all types of food.

Parent's weekend

We'll be there for BU's family weekend, too. I have a Junior, and have learned the hard way about dinners in Boston on that weekend. If you want a really nice place, make reservations NOW, you'll probably only get really early or late availability. Sorry to sound like such a downer, however...there are a lot of fun spots you can probably get in without a problem, like Joe's or Charlie's, not gourmet, but a fun atmosphere and the students always seem to like it. Also, easy on the wallet, especially if you've got a crowd. Have fun!

2 nights at the Borgata: comments on the Buffet and suggestions for another nice dinner?

I have to agree with seal, Sea Blue is definitely overrated. Go to Ombra or Bobby Flay. Try the cap/salami/and prov at the White House. Delish! Also, I don't think you're getting any "bread to go", the staff are not known for their congeniality!

Second Boston Visit

Try Victoria's Station in Salem. If the weather is conducive, eat outside, it's beautiful! Try the nachos, they are delicious and enough for two ( or more). Lobster roll was good, too. Big chunks of sweet lobster!! MMM!!

Jfood back in NOLA - Brigtsens, Commanders, K-Pauls, Camellia Grill, et. al. (long)

Jfood, I, too have a lone daughter beginning college in NOLA! Thanks to her, we have been able to visit a city that we've never experienced before now. The food is amazing. We've enjoyed Commanders Palace, Palace Cafe for brunch, Bacco's, (great lobster ravioli), Shula's,etc...had planned on visiting K-pauls, took that off my list after seeing some of the reviews. Will def try Brigtsen's. Have you tried Stella's?
