I'll be in Costa Rica and spending some time in La Fortuna (Arenal), Monteverde, Tamarindo. WOuld love to know where the better eating spots are--they could be upscale or hole in the wall, as long as they are great food!

Caterer rec's needed for this Thursday

I need a caterer for a dinner party at my home this Thursday--short notice I know! We'll be about 10 people. Budget is around $100 pp. Any suggestions? thx!

2 nights--miami vs fort-lauderdale

Ok so what would you suggest?

2 nights--miami vs fort-lauderdale

Atmosphere is secondary. Food is numero uno.

2 nights--miami vs fort-lauderdale

Ok, a few more details. I live in montreal so i am no stranger to great restaurants, especially french ones. I also just finished watching babdboy tony boudain's miami layover (btw whats the opinion of him here on chowhound?).

I am basically doing a 72 hr layover with my buddy. We are both huge foodies. We are flying into fll and out of orlando. Thinking of staying in miami area for first night, hitting the river for happy hour where i have been before, i love oysters and their bar snacks are awesome (duck empanadas with mango chutney anyone?). Then i would do a late dinner somewhere foodie-excellent but also typical of local cuisine- i am thinking garcia's--thoughts?

Night 2 could be fort lauderdale-- market 17 is looking good for one of their tasting menus.

Orlando i've got nailed down- rustic pig for dinner saturday, and the sunday will be bbq at the bbq joint up the street from ravenous (cant remember the name).

Those are the details--your suggestions welcome!

2 nights--miami vs fort-lauderdale

And where those one or two places in fort lauderdale be?

2 nights--miami vs fort-lauderdale

Be honest, now. 2 nights to spend, how to split them among Miami & Fort-Lauderdale for the foodie that I am? Do the top resto's in Fort-Lauderdale rival those of Miami, or should I hunker down in Miami for 2 nights and save the Fort for another time?

standing rib roast

i spoke to westmount butcher today. he has black angus 1855. pricey! but it is the best. wonder how big a difference you can taste between 1855 & AAA?

standing rib roast

Where can I buy a good one? I was thinking of the biftheque but since they're now closed, i cant remember the name of the butcher where norman selzer moved to--anybody?

I am actually heading down to Omaha from out of town, for a meeting and since I am a bbq fanatic, thought I would land in KC, do some bbq, and then drive up to omaha. is the bbq in omaha good enuf to be able to skip KC without feeling I missed somethig GREAT? If not, would love some rec's for top spot in KC, as well as anywhere else that might be along the way to Omaha. thx

Omaha to Kansas City, MO--BBQ Trip

I am planning a drive from Kansas City to Omaha--any awesome bbq (or other) spots to make sure to hit?

private room for 23 in west island

Looking for a decent restaurant where they have a room that can comfortably accomodate 23 for a year end office dinner. Last year we went to Town Hall and it was tight with 22.

steak for stag

Looking for a good resto that serves a good steak for a stag. Something other than a moishe's--something a little younger and less $$--lets say somewhere where $50-60 for dinner all in including a good steak, maybe not including wine (since we'll do some drinking before and after anyways). Thx.

Indian fruit & vegetable store in Montreal

haha, wish i could remember the names, unfortuantely my hindi isnt very good.

Indian fruit & vegetable store in Montreal

We have a guest staying with us from Delhi, telling us about all these wonderful sounding fruits & veggies that we do not know in these parts. Anywhere in the city that would have them?

Also looking for some lunch suggestions, can be anything from great hole in the wall to great dining experience, but preferably walking distance from the hotel.

Any suggestions?

thx

Garde Manger--what to order?

Finally going to Garde Manger for the first time tomorrow night. Any 'not to be missed' dishes? Any dishes that aren't as good as the rest?

Thx

1 chance to give a taste of Old Montreal

40west simply because its the best in this neck of the woods near our office, and is one impressive dining room.

1 chance to give a taste of Old Montreal

I have a supplier coming in from Texas--her first time in Montreal, only here for 1 night. So much to show her, so little time. I was wondering if there was a decent resto in Old Montreal where I could at once show her the area as well as an example of the fine dining we have to offer. Suggestions? FYI, we'll be lunching at 40West.

Rec for scallops

I found the octopus very good, except a few bites were oversalted. Compared to octopus i've had elsewhere, i found it a good sized portion for the price. Overall I found the bill was lower than it would be many other places for similar quality. I am assuming their somewhat obscure location allows them to keep the overhead that much lower.

Rec for scallops

Wow, Le Hangar was awesome! Great scallops, as was the veal chop, tuna tartare & octopus. Yummm!

Waterfront Dining in St-Petersburg

What are the best dining spots in St-Pete with a view of the water (either bay or gulf)? I am prepared to compromise some level of food quality for a great view, and preferably an outside al fresco dining opportunity, but the food should still be above average (I am a foodie after all!).

Foodies coming to St. Petersburg, FL.. Help!

I'm heading down to St-Pete in about 10 days and looking for the best outdoor dining spots, preferably with a view of the water. Willing to travel up to Clearwater too. Ocean view or bay view is all good to me. Because the outdoor view thing is #1, I'm willing to settle on the food quality--its gotta still be great, but not necessarily the greatest. Suggestions? Oh, and I would love to meet up with other foodies if that works--that would be bonus!

clearwater/st-pete for 4 days

Headed down there in a couple of weeks. What are the 'must-eat' at places? SO far I know I will be paying a visit to:

Ted Peter's for smoked fish
Guppies
Central Oyster in St-Pete for their consistently awesome oysters

What say you?

Where can I buy walnuts?

I went to my usual grocery store but they said they pulled them from the shelves due to a walnut scare of some kind. I was out of town for a while, maybe I missed the news. But anyways, has anyone seen any shelled walnuts for sale anywhere in thelast few days?

thx

Where to buy whole pork butt (bone-in)?
