Why does Trader Joe's pasta taste sweet? [moved from General Chowhounding board]
I bought TJ's Spaghetti today and DEFINITELY noticed sweetness, and with very strange, distinctive cinnamon undertones. Not a fan. I thought I was going crazy until I found this post! They just opened a new TJ's in my neighborhood and I was very excited about having an alternative to Whole Foods, but I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed with the quality of some of the items I've purchased, all of which I chose for their low price. I guess price really does matter!
Best Vegetarian Restaurants in NYC !!?
second hangawi! the dishes there are so delicious and satisfying that you don't even feel like its a vegetarian place! it's a korean restaurant, fyi.
Help!!! 30th Birthday party(it's getting critical)
how about rayuela? the food is great (not mind blowing, but the menu offers a good variety of interesting dishes). love their cocktails, too. the ambiance is great - beautiful space, open/airy, somewhat swanky but not overly so. they seem to do well with groups - i went with a group of 9, and imagine they'd be able to accommodate a larger party.
Bachelorette dinner near 225 E Houston?
Recently organized a bacholorette party at Le Souk. Had no problem making a reservation but there was an annoying wait when we got there. Once we were seated though, we had a blast. Food is great - not the best Moroccan you'll ever have, but definitely tasty, good cocktails, you can even get hookahs for the table. Vibe is lively, and there's belly dancing too.
I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a fun, distinctive experience, which I personally feel is important in making a bachelorette party feel like more than just a regular night on the town.
30th & 5th
HanGawi on 32nd bw 5th and 6th (closer to 5th)
Awesome Korean restaurant - very different from the others on that street, not like the typical Korean BBQ grill joints (not that those aren't delish!) Hangawi is actually vegetarian but the selection is so delicious and interesting that it actually didn't even cross my mind.
Very nice atmosphere - quiet, almost zen garden-esque. FYI they ask you to remove your shoes before seating...

When is Merkato 55 opening?
I've been wondering about this too! Does anyone have any info?
Brunch West Village
August has a great brunch menu and the ambiance is great - very quaint/rustic. There's also a lovely outdoor seating area.
Mermaid Inn or August
August, without a doubt. You'll def get the "homey" ambiance, even more so than at Mermaid Inn. August has a great menu. If you go for brunch, get the gravlax/scrambled eggs - so delicious!
