Petit Robert Bistro
I had blanquette de veau in the Needham branch about a year ago and it was not good. The meat was very tough.
Source for Asian items in Metrowest
I am looking for woodear mushrooms (dried) and sczechuan peppercorns. I know Super 88 and H mart has them but would like a source closer to Wellesley. Might I find them in Whole Foods or Roche Bros???
Where to buy rabbit in Metrowest?
Whole Foods in Wellesley sometimes has fresh rabbit. Call to inquire.
how to make a great cioppino?
The cioppino I make is so delicious and easy and does not require any messy cracking or digging of shells. I have served this on special occasions like New Year's Eve. The trick is to have every thing prepared: cut, chopped, cleaned, measured ahead. Put everything on the counter close to the stove and with everything pre- measured, it will take about 10 minutes to make. I am not big on cooking once my guests arrive, but I make exception for this. It is from The California Cookbook.
The freshest fish is required.
Cioppino
1/2 C olive oil
3 cloves garlic minced
2 lbs boneless fish- scallops, shrimp, cod, snapper- cut into pieces.
10-12 littleneck clams or cherrystones in the shell, cleaned
1 C dry white wine
2 C canned or peeled tomatoes, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 tsp dried oregano or 2 tsp fresh
1 tsp sugar
2 bay leaves
salt, fresh ground pepper
1/2 cup chopped parsley
Put oil in large pot or dutch oven over moderate heat
Add half of the fish mixture, the clams, wine tomatoes. oregano, sugar, bay leaves and 1/2 t each of salt and pepper
Turn heat high and bring to simmer, stir and cook below boil for 1 minute
Lower heat, cover and cook 2 moreminuts. Add remaining fish and cook stirring until rawness disappears- about 2 more minutes. Stir in parsley and serve.
Help! Historic/colonial restaurant in MA with GOOD food? [moved from Boston]
Durgin Park has some pretty good selections: prime rib, baked beans, Indian Pudding and of course the place is historical. Haven't been for awhile so recent visitors may pipe in one way or the other.

King Crab Legs
Legal Seafood has King Crab Legs. You can probably get them to go at the Chestnut Hill branch which has a small fish market.
Italian dinner party menu help
Chicken Piccata is wonderful. The CI recipe is fabulous. Very easy to make. Get your butcher to pound the chicken to make cutlets. That is half the work. The rest takes about 30 miutes.
Island Creek Oyster Bar- must eats besides oysters?
There this weekend. The steamed littlenecks were excellent, as was the monkfish, the fried clams and the baked cod. Forget about the grilled sardines. No visible grill marks or taste, and about 80% skin and bones (well, they are sardines so I should have known). Desserts were very good- chocolate pudding, cookies and milk.
Dover Sole
Had dover sole at Locke-Ober last spring and they deboned it tableside. It was great but not sure it is so much better than grey sole to make it worth the price difference.

Help me plan my own chocolate tour!
I was recently given a box of Seranade Chocolates. They were very delicious. I believe they are located in Brookline.
Anyone been to Boccabella Cafe?
There was a favorable writeup in the Globe a couple of weeks ago about this small place in Auburndale. The menu changes daily and the owner is the chef. Sounds interesting. If anyone has been please share your impressions. Thanks.
Tico - did tasting menu with friends last night
I don' understand the comment about parents over sixty. Most sixty year olds I know are reasonably youthful. And like Mexican food.
Dinner w/Tweens near Taza Chocolate - inman square towards harvard square?
The last two times we ate at Mucueca, we had steak tips and pichana (another supposedly higher quality steak). Both were like shoe leather. Totally inedible. Midwest Grill is very good, especially it the kids like rodizio. The buftet that goes with the meat is pretty good also. Better bet than muqueca.

Best Hot Chocolate in Boston?
I have had churros at the Met Club in Chestnut Hill for brunch but that was some time ago. I expect that they have a brunch menu online. My son had excellent churros at Toro in the South end last year. Sorry no up-to- date info.

Best Legal Seafood Location
We find the Legal in Chestnut Hill to be good and consistent. Framingham is also very good.
sea cucumbers
We were served a dish (I think soup) containing sea cucumber in Singapore.I thought it was vile stuff.
Something interesting for lunch today: Baza's house-made kielbasa
Thanks Prav! I will try again. Maybe it was a language barrier issue when they said there was no such thing.
Topic hijacked to completely different subject
There is a topic on the Boston Board about Vinny's at Night which has morphed into a discussion of Chinese restaurants. So, if you ar interested in the title topic, it is disappointing and annoying to find the thread is about something altogether different. Shouldn't the mods ask that the discussion stay on topic? Of course a slight divergence is fine but not to have the whole topic changed!
Fun restaurant to go with Rt. 9/Newton "field trip"
If you like Italian, try Spiga which is on Needham Street. From the Book Fair, continue on Needham Street toward Needham. It is behind some buildings so you need to look closely. Have not been for lunch but dinner is usually quite good. A little more upscale than other suggestions (except 51 Lincoln which is also upscale).
Hey, List that UNUSUAL Ingredient ON THE MENU + Other Delights of Dining (What is Assumed to be Included in a Dish)
This reminds me of the caiparinha I was served that contained Sprite. Ugh. The drink menu listed the proper ingredients (cachaca, lime, sugar) but not Sprite. SErved in a tall glass. I returned it and asked waitress what was in it- she asked the bartender. I told him to make it without the sprite. Ugh -almost as bad as gruyere on wolffish!
Sel de la Terre- $1 oysters on snow days and 1/2 price food on Superbowl Sunday
Whenever a snow emergency is declared, SDLT has $1 oysters from 4 p.m. on. 1/2 price food on Superbowl Sunday. Sounds like good deals.

Greek/Toga Party
I have many recipes that I have posted- look up and you will find. If not, I will repost. I suggest that you serve tsatsiki with crusty bread -very easy to make. Also, dolmathes made with ground lamb and with egg lemon sauce. Moussaka is wonderful but very time consuming if made right. Pastitsio is great too but also time consuming. I say tsatsiki, feta and olives, taramasalata (store bought), dolmades with egg lemon sauce and a greek salad. Spinakopita if you have the time. Let me know if you need recipes.
Grit in my clams - and what didn't work to clean it out
I think what you got were countnecks- which are a slightly different size than littlenecks (I think smaller). When I get these or littlenecks I scrub the shells under running water, soak for a short time, repeat and then cook. never had any sand in them and I use them alot.
Something interesting for lunch today: Baza's house-made kielbasa
Went to Baza today for Keilbasa. I asked for the housemade and they said there is no such thing. They do not make keilbasa. They were adamant.

Winter Options - Ogunquit or Cape Neddick?
Wherever you stay, Anneke Jans in Kittery is excellent. Not crazy about the Cape Neddick Inn- ate there once since it changed hands and it was not good. Have not been to Five- O in a long time. MC Perkins Cove in Ogunquit is open part of the winter- great views and food. Check their website to see if they are open.
