lunch places near Library of Congress

This is a tough one - I spent years doing research at LOC and dreaming of good lunch options which pretty much did not materialize. One cheap and convenient option is the LOC cafeteria on the 6th floor of the Madison building - the food is Aramark or some similar concessionaire, but at least it's quick and there's a salad bar. You can walk a bit and hit Johnny's Half Shell, moderate-priced seafood, or Taqueria Nacionale, cheap and good Mexican takeout, at 400 N Capitol, but on hot days I found the trek to be too far. Le Bon Cafe is fine, not great, and I thought Burrito Brothers was unbelievably nasty. A final possibility is Firehook Bakery on Penn Ave, decent premade sandwiches and pastries.

Venice finally gets a decent grocery store

any idea when it's scheduled to open?

lunch near Loyola Law School?

I'll be spending some time doing research at the law library, and I'm completely unfamiliar with the neighborhood. Any advice on good lunch options? Many thanks -

Taco Miendo should be re-named Taco Bland

I completely agree! I just tried this place last week after reading raves on chowhound and found it totally mediocre. Maybe it's gone downhill.

Deli lunch near UCLA Thursday

Agreed on all counts - I work next door to the Medical Center and bring my lunch b/c the options are so crappy. Another idea for great deli if you're driving - go to Bay Cities Italian Deli on Lincoln and Colorado in Santa Monica for fabulous sandwiches.

Where to buy good merguez sausage?

I just bought some merguez from Whole Foods in Westwood this week and it was not great. I assume they have some regional supplier who supplies all their stores? if not, maybe the Tustin version is better.

vegetarian friendly in venice/santa monica?

I second previous posters - I'm an omnivore and I would eat at RFD every day if I could get over there.

happy hour in Westwood?

I'm looking for someplace to get a few drinks after work in Westwood, north of Wilshire, can't think of a single appealing spot. Many thanks -

The food at the Prop Room is horrible.

coffeehouse for writers on west side?

Dear chowhounds, I'm happily ensconced at the Cows End, a perfect spot for writing: chill vibe, not too loud but not too quiet, and lots of snacks. My quality of life in LA just skyrocketed. Many thanks!

coffeehouse for writers on west side?

I'm looking for a coffeehouse or teahouse on the west side where I can camp out for several hours with my laptop and write. Wifi not necessary. I would much prefer to avoid Starbucks, Peets, or Coffee Bean outlets generally. I've been to Venice Roasters on Venice, not a bad option, but would love other ideas.
