amazing bbq in the pasadena area

Other people here have mentioned Big Mama's as a good option so we tried it a few months back and were very pleased. Their sauces are good too.

Seafood in Pasadena?

I have to agree, Cameron is really bad in general. It's gimmicky, so there are always people there, but the food is really low quality.

Looking for absinthe

The main flavor component in absinthe is anise seed, it's very liquorice like. I detected a little mint in mine as well.

Looking for absinthe

UPDATE: Kubler Absinthe isn't green, it actually a clear, Swiss style absinthe thats known for it's milky white louche with a slight blue hue to it. Very potent stuff non-the-less.

I've been reading about the lore behind absinthe since I was in college, so it's nice to have finally tried it. I now feel certain kinship with the sullen subjects of Degas L'absinthe.

Looking for absinthe

Thanks very much everyone. Just got back from Silver Lake Wine with my bottle of Kubler Absinthe ($56.00). They even had the proper imbibing paraphernalia! Local BevMo is sold out until next year.

So, I have a date with the green fairy this evening. You you don't hear back from me for a week you'll know why.

Looking for absinthe

I'd like to buy a bottle. I know that a few bars in the area serve it. Do places like BevMo carry it? Bristol Farms?

edit: Sorry for the multiple posts. I was getting an error from the site stating that somehting went wrong when I tried to submite the post... Looks like it was working after all.

Dinner near Los Angeles Union Station (Train Station)?

Lots of good Mexican around there as other have pointed out. Our favorite is La Golondrina Cafe.

Phillippe's is sort of an LA icon. See here for all the cool details...

Hoegaarden on Tap - Downtown

Lucky Baldwins in Old Town Pasadena also has this on tap. And frankly, Lucky Baldwinds Beer menu is much more interesting than The Yard Houses.

Cheap and good in Pasadena

I agree about the sauce at Big Mama's - it's got some real character as opposed to many places where it's just sweet. Their Cajun fries are killer and I also really like their cat fish.

I had forgotten about Clifton. I've heard a lot about it but I've never been.

Looking for options "On Broadway."

The GF and I are planning a small trip to explore old LA by foot, specifically Broadway Blvd. Are there any good food options in this area of down town? Someone at work here thought there was a good ramen place but didn't have any details. The only place I'm really aware of myself is Grand Central Market.

Pinkberry's Legal Jam

"Pinkberry's popular frozen concoction isn't yogurt in the eyes of the law in California, but the makers would like to fix that. Alexa Hyland in today's Daily Journal chronicles the back and forth"

Best fish and chips?

The batter on Brit's fish is the lightest and crispiest you've ever had. Give it a try. Their fries are killer too.

your top five cheap restaurants in northeast LA/glendale/pasadena?

Yes! Their salsa rojo is killer!!! When I go, I always order it as a side ($0.49) which comes in a lager container and take the unused portion home. The stuff is awesome on eggs and pizza...

My Fredo (?) Cheesteak joint in Pasadena or Altadena

The default is some sort of white cheese, but you can get it with Whiz if you ask. The proprietor will make it any way you like.

I second Zelo and Mediterranean Garden Grill (one of my new favorites - I love their frog legs.)

Best Chili Fries

I personally don't care for the chili fries at The Hat. Their fries just aren't that good - they're under cooked. Their chili is good, however.

The best chili fries I've had in LA is at Lucky Devils in Hollywood. Their fries are properly fried, and they make their chili with kobe beef. It's a little more high end than The Hat, but well worth it. It's some of the best chili I've ever had too.

The chili fries at Pinks are really good too.

The Blue Bayou, ask for a water side table, and be sure to make your reservation at least three months in advance. Yes, I said THREE MONTHS.

6 best and 3 worst BBQ Brisket in LA and the Valley

Big Mama's Rib Shack should be added to this list. My GF and I went there on Sunday and we were both really pleased. The BBQ has a great smokeyness to it and their BBQ sauce is really top notch - better than most that I've tried. A lot of places make their sauce too sweet, like Robins and Barn Burners here in Pasadena. Big Mama's is more tangy with a nice spicy kick. I really like Big Mama's blackened catfish and spicy Cajun fries too.

It's appropriate that Barn Burners isn't on your list...
