Good eats near Bloor and Symington?

There are definitely a few Portuguese BBQ joints in the area. I believe there's one right at Bloor & Symington, which I haven't heard anything about, and there are a couple just north of there at Symington & Dupont. If you're at Symington & Dupont, there's a great Italian bakery/sandwich shop just north of the intersection in the same mall as a Beer Store.

Lunch Catering for College Park

You could find a West or East Indian shop in the area that would do a rotis for you. There's Coconut Grove near Dundas & University as a suggestion.

If you're dead-set against sandwiches, feel free to ignore my suggestion of Pumpernickel's. They're located in the MaRS food court (College & Elizabeth), and are quite good.

Baldwin Palace- Yay or Nay?

I think it's quite good. I would definitely try the Singapore noodles and the hot & sour soup.

canola oil for cast iron seasoning???? [Moved from Home Cooking]

Not a problem, just use it normally, and the slight stickiness will subside.

Pizza and beer!

Speaking of comfortable pubs with good pizza....

I remember that Brass Taps on the Danforth had a Wednesday half price pizza special as well. The pizzas were quite good, and went well with a couple (few?) beers.

Want to buy buttermilk in large quantity... where?

The starter is just active cultured buttermilk.

Check out the rest of the site. It's fairly addictive. :)

"Calcutta Chinese" (Indian Hakka) in downtown Toronto?

This place can get quite busy. It's one of my family's favourites, and I've found it usually quite decent. It can get a bit oily though, but it's worth it.

Terroni has some great pizza, and a comfortable vibe.

Restaurant for weekend lunch with parking underground

Most of the office buildings in the financial district have discounted parking on the weekends. You can access restaurants such as Beerbistro from relatively nearby, perhaps after dropping your mother off at the door.

I'm sure that Delight in the Junction will put something together for you. Give them a call.

I'm pretty sure they've been majority-owned by Cadbury for a few years now.

I haven't been in some time, but I also enjoy Real Thailand.

I love the Rushton. Might I also suggest Ferro just down the street. Great place as well.

Hair of the Dog (in the Village) has some killer martinis, and can be pretty lively downstairs. The upstairs is more of a 'quiet date' vibe. Also, Zelda's can be fun if you plan on having a ridiculous night.

Looking for good eats after 11pm Monday night

If you're willing to head a bit west, you can probably get a bite at Axis. Give them a call to see if their kitchen is open late.

Brunch tomorrow (Sunday) - any ideas?

If you head just north of Bloor on Bay you'll spy a place called Eggstacy. Definitely inexpensive and tasty.

Lunch at JK Gardiner - review

Thanks for the review. I've seen the space during Nuit Blanche, but haven't had a chance to drop by for lunch. Hopefully that can be remedied soon.

Daybreak would be my pick. Cheap 'n cheerful, friendly atmosphere, and definitely large portions. It's about five minutes from Yonge & College.

There's also Laura Calder's show, French Food at Home, which doesn't air in the US, I believe.

Xmas day Chinese dinner (downtown)

Wah Sing is the one that's at street level, and Hua Sang is a few steps below street level. I've been to Hua Sang numerous times, and Wah Sing once or twice. They're both quite good, but I prefer Hua Sang.

Plain Chinese Breads

Yung Sing is indeed the only Chinese bakery in the restaurant stretch of Baldwin. It's been there for around 30 years. Their menu is much smaller than Kim Moon, but many of their offerings are quite good.

Xmas day Chinese dinner (downtown)

You're welcome. There's also a seafood soup which is quite good. A clear delicate broth with loads of tasty seafood inside. Best with a touch of heat from their chili oil.

Trying to identify a Korean drink (juice?) [moved from Ontario board]

Jujubes are a small fruit used in Chinese cooking. They're somewhat like dates, but I don't think they're directly related. They're often sold dried in Asian markets, and can be called 'Chinese red dates.'

I don't have a lead on the beverage the OP is looking for, but I thought I'd chime in with my useless fact.
