Vintage LA diners with great food

I think Rae's is a total no-brainer for the atmosphere alone - an absolute classic greasy spoon. remember to bring cash, but you won't need much, because it's dirt cheap.

Thai in LA - less spicy options for the kids?

night + market specifically states on their website that they're kid-friendly, and have highchairs (not sure what age your kids are?). our 3-year-old loves the crab fried rice.

Bucato opening In Culver City

i loved the octopus hash...octopus, potatoes, kale, some kind of a tomato sauce with a perfect egg on top.

also, the banana-nutella donuts and the foccacia were both everyone was making noises after tasting them amazing.

Lucifer's Pizza Los Feliz?

not necessarily a good place for a classic pie, but I do like some of the funkier varieties. not into the spicy thing so I order mild or no spice. try the greek lamb and rosemary or the pumpkin and proscuitto...

Gastronomico - Looks Can Be Deceiving

We picked up a turkey burger, a pork sandwich, and a piece of chocolate banana upside down cake from this place the other day and were very happy with everything. Possibly my new favorite turkey burger, juicy and flavorful but not too salty as I find a lot of others to be. And the cake was lovely and surprisingly light.

I'll definitely be returning too...and will try the Llapingachos next time!

Vegan grocery los feliz/silverlake/echo park area?

also check out nature mart in los feliz on hillhurst. a nice variety of vegan groceries, plus they have a bulk bin annex next door which is great for oatmeal, quinoa, rice, etc.

Neighborhood Japanese in Silverlake or Los Feliz

i think sansui is what you are looking for here. i find the atmosphere there particularly relaxing. there's sushi but no actual sushi bar, and the cooked items i've tried have been reliably good.

Alinea- Tasting or Tour?

i agree with the above - did the same thing in december and figured since we don't live in chicago, we might as well go all out. we didn't regret it one bit! (oh yeah, and we managed to finish everything, just barely.)

BBQ - Where to find the best in LA?

thanks for this tip - checked out kansas city bbq on saturday night and was blown away! 2 of us shared a combo plate with baby backs, brisket, and hot links. all three meats were great but i literally can't stop thinking about the brisket - it practically melts in your mouth. i third the sentiment of best bbq i've had in l.a....

Seeking Pico Boulevard Book...

jonathan gold writes about having done that in the introduction to his book "counter intelligence". the reviews of all those pico blvd. establishments aren't included in the book, though. but that's definitely what you're thinking of!

looking for a recipe for a gourmet cranberry sauce that remains relatively traditional

another bon appetit recipe archived on epicurious that i like is the piquant cranberry sauce. really simple but spruced up with fresh thyme and dijon mustard.
