Thanks BigE... loved your lunch options before we head out after our quick trip (as we are staying at a B&B- otherwise Marigolds looked fantastic!)

Thank you!!! 2 of my favorite things- mustard and cheese. I'll make sure and try the Casa Bolo Mellage- sounds fantastic.

Hi! Too funny, I'm flying up on Thursday AM;-) Raleigh is so awesome for food- some of my favs are:

Rockford (the best sandwiches and yummy food!) LOVE this place especially the cozy couch w/a nice glass of wine.
Dos Taquitos downtown- the most amazing lamb dish ever, plus good guac, and cool atmosphere.
Busy Bees for beer and loaded tots- yum!
Raleigh Times & Pooles are also favs ;-)
Jibarra- incredible "happy hour" specials mid week- really good food!
Remedy Diner- fun, lots of vegan but also other options- worth checking out
Big Eds in city market for awesome country breakfast
Farmer's Market Restaurant for great breakfast as well and fun to walk around- lots of free samples, and a few weeks ago bought some great sunflowers!
Benelux Cafe in City Market for good coffee- and yoga that I teach there 2x/week ;-)
... to get you started!

Thanks for the input, we're meeting friends in Madison, so I'm sure we'll find some fun places, but if you have any to add, I'd appreciate.

Have fun in Raleigh!

I'm heading up North in a few days and after visiting in White Bear Lake, we're heading down to Madison. We are foodie geeks and love great food that is fun and interesting. Any suggestions for stops along the way? (Think the movie Michael's world's largest ball of twine- but for food!) Well, actually any other interesting stops along the way would be appreciated too!

If you're ever in Raleigh, happy to return the favor with great suggestions! ;-)

Please! Help Us Decide in Charleston

LOVE Charleston Grill. Top notch service and food- they even knew and greeted us by name upon arrival (mostly thanks to the fabulous Governor's House Inn). We ate there on Saturday. The atmosphere is not to be missed, it's like a magical getaway- a little jazz, a friendly manager, and a packed room, even in tough times. Prepare to spend about $200+. But surprisingly the portions are large- we took a (packed) box back to our room. Simply amazing... especially now during the holidays.

NEWBEE in Asheville/Hendersonville

We went there for years, used to be huge sandwiches- now they've shruken considerably and they are overpriced. They also almost always get our order wrong. But...the owner is VERY nice.

Greenville, SC upated recs?

I've been to La Bastide and really enjoyed it! It has a great menu and a cozy atmosphere. A bit pricey, but worth it for a special meal and a nice drive. The Inn there is great too, but hard to get reservations in, as they book up quick. La Bastide has also made perfect gift certificates in the past for my folks- who are equally picky!

Me too! I was there about 6 months ago and had the best duck that I've ever tasted...

If it's where Laurie's used to be- I've heard it's great. My parents gave it great reviews last night.

Asheville's Best Restaurants

I ate at Fig last night for the first time and was very impressed. It had such a nice feel, and the food was amazing. The duck was great, but especially impressed w/the scallops- they were served over cauliflower w/a cream sauce, and shredded granny smith apple as a garnisth- very unique. The rissoto w/the chicken also a winner! For starters try the ceaser- that bacon is so flavorful, and although we didn't have dessert- the options looked fabulous.

Greenville SC restaurants

I've recently started to discover the wonderful restaurants in G'ville! Soby's has an excellent (and not too pricey) Sunday brunch. Trio is fun downtown for a great pizza. O is great for a late night drink- really cool upscale bar.

Sante wine bar(Asheville-Grove Arcade) - worth a stop

I went two Saturdays ago, and was surprised how packed it was. Good energy, great crowd- just wish they had some background music- maybe some nice jazz or something. The cheese/meat platters are great- they even box it up nicely to go.

Asheville's Best Restaurants

I am really loving Bouchon- try the steak! I just got back from Paris a few months ago, and the backyard courtyard really reminded me of the feel when mixed w/the food. I also enjoy Rezaz- on Saturdays they have a lamb special w/lamb chops and an amazing lamb sausage. I'm considering Fig- read it is good. And for lunch? Have to say I've been to Carmel's just about every weekend this summer. I love to sit outside and the perfect salad is their BLT w/chicken, hold the tomatoes, and switch out to their house dressing...heavenly!!!
