Figaro Bistrot - on Vermont - Best Moule Frites in town? I suppose it depends on what you mean by "in town." The best moules frites (now called moules marinière on the menu) that I have had are at Marche Moderne at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. |

Never Done Omakase But I'm Ready to Try! Sushi Iki in Tarzana is my goto spot for omakase. Chef Eddie serves up the freshest fish. His live uni and scallop are sublime. |

Best (cheapest) place to buy 24 live maine lobsters for new years?? It was $9.99/lb last night at the Arcadia 99 Ranch. |

I am shocked that this place is still in business... Sounds like most people don't quite understand the point of this thread. Are people really "shocked" that Olive Garden or CPK are still in business? They serve reasonable food at reasonable prices - which is what most people want. Or Tommy's, where there are almost always customers? I am shocked that La Canada Pizzeria & Grill in La Canada is still in business. Not so much for the food (which is okay), but because it always seems empty and is not too conspicuous of a space. |

It's our go-to place for great sushi. They have some of the freshest fish I've had in LA. We're partial to the live sea scallop, uni, and kawahagi. The fin fish is also great. It is a bit pricey, but worth the money, IMHO. |

Sushi Iki in Tarzana is my favorite. Excellent cuts of fish, with some exotic types and lots of live shellfish. ----- |

The Burbank Costco has kraut behind the windows - just ask. I dunno if it is actually heated, though. It is warm when I get it, but I also notice that it's pre-packaged in little containers that sit next to the warm frozen yogurt machine. |

Super King markets usually have lamb ribs at their meat counters. |

I've ordered poached and soft-boiled eggs at Denny's. |

Calling all Chowhounds to pick one of 6 potential places, highest vote-getter wins: Urasawa ----- |

Sushi Iki regularly has live sawagani. Chef Eddie fries them up nice and crisp. Very tasty. ----- |

Battle Fried Chicken: Panns vs Dinah's If we're talking about broasted "fried chicken", then I actually really like the stuff from Charlie's Trio. |

Grand Central Market - Recs?!?! I like the cabeza and lengua tacos at Tacos Tumbras A Tomas. ----- |

Was invited to dinner at Ka-San in La Crescenta tonight. Has anyone been? ----- |

What Restaurants Regularly Serve Fried Sawagani (Japanese river crab)? Sushi Iki regularly has them on their fresh/live list of selections. They're pretty good deep fried. ----- |

My wife and I went to our favorite sushi place, Sushi Iki, for our anniversary last night and it was simply wonderful. We enjoyed: Live Spiny Lobster Sashimi - Lobster tail meat is mixed with tobikko and served with a sauce with a slightly spicy sauce. The edges of the tail meat was cut off and broiled with a mayonnaise-based sauce. Truly stupendous. Live Sea Scallop Sushi - Very sweet sea scallop served with a bit of caviar and sauced with a combination soy and yuzu. Amazing. The edges ("lips") of the scallop are served on the side with a little seaweed salad. Very fresh tasting. Blue Fin Maguro Sushi - Very fresh and deep flavor. Better than toro from a lot of places. Halibut Sushi - Lightly sauced and served with shiso. Very nice texture. Red Snapper Sushi - Seasoned with yuzu and salt with shiso. Very nice. Yellowtail Toro Sushi - Very fatty cut of fish lightly sauced. Melts in your mouth good. Kawahagi Sushi - One of the best items of the night. Kawahagi (filefish?) liver with a little truffle wrapped in rice paper. Amazing unctuous flavor. Chef Eddie calls it "ocean foie gras". Shima Aji - Lovely piece of spanish mackerel, deftly cut in a cross hatchpattern. Very delicious. My wife was served the deep-fried backbone of the mackerel, also. Very nice. Shima Saba - This is the only place I eat saba. House-marinated without the super-sharp vinegary taste you get everywhere else. Very tender and delicious. Bluefin Otoro Sushi - Very, very well marbled with fat. Simply melts in your mouth and has great flavor. At the end, they served us fried ice cream and sung "Happy Anniversary" to us (in the theme of Happy Birthday). It was an evening more than well spent. ----- |

How does everyone feel about Tommy's? Tommy's is great, in my opinion. The chili is controversial because it's almost like a beef sauce, with little discernible texture. It's not chili championship-type chili, but I love it. Chili cheeseburger with a fried egg and no pickles...sounds great right now. |

They have great oysters and the crab louie salad is very good. |

I think a lot of folks, including myself, really love the flavor combinations of the #19 over the plain, so it's hardly blind praise... |
|
|
You'll beat the lines, but they may not have all of the dim sum selections available. Last time we went there at 10, some of the items such as a water convolvulus was not available yet/ |

Sushi Iki has the best and freshest sushi in town. ----- |

Spicy tuna on crispy rice? Why? Sushi Iki in Tarzana makes a great version of spicy tuna on crispy rice. The rice is nicely crisped, but the tuna is what makes it great. Chef Eddie uses very good tuna for his spicy tuna and it makes the dish. |

Sushi Iki in Tarzana serves live uni - it's the best I've had in LA. Very sweet and fresh tasting. |

We ordered them the last time we went to Ocean Ave. and they were pretty awful. Very little in terms of filling and flavor. Guacamole wasn't bad, though... It's a rip-off IMHO. |

Looking for roasted marrow bones in the OC. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks! |

Search for the Elusive Fried Clam, Part 4 - Found it! Speaking of Culver City, Ford's Filling Station has fried Ipswich clams, too. |

Fav. mediocre eats (inspired by bianca pizza thread) Does McDonalds count? Because I still love Big Macs. |

Mozza's New Perfume Pizza...Had it? I suppose it's better than body odor, though... |

Oysters are still good. Fanny Bays and Kumamotos haven't disappointed. |
