So I am watching Mystery Diner.... - moved from General Chowhounding board
And one of the mystery dining staff poses as a difficult customer. He summons the server and says that he is not happy with his appetizer. When the General Manager comes out there are words and the Manager says "You have eaten 75% of the food and now complaining." (I am paraphrasing here)
After the show finished I thought to myself...How would I have handled that??? Do you offer another choice after most of the food is eaten?
So how should this be handled? Any help from Wait Staff or Management would be most appreciated.
Happy Eating.
Why should I buy tilapia?
Tilapia is basically tasteless and needs to be really seasoned to appeal to the palate.
Anyone else like to see some new innovative cook shows on Food Network?
And you are correct. Thanks
Anyone else like to see some new innovative cook shows on Food Network?
I sure would. I would even like to see some of the Culinary Masters like Scott Conant have a show and show us his expertise. He sits in 'Chopped' and reigns from on high but I have never seen him cook anything. I believe most of the other judges have had a go. (Sorry off topic) Hey how about a show were no one goes home and you pick a winner at the end? IMO because Food Network has a targeted audience most of any ethnic cooking is shoved and showed at some rediculous time slot. Aarti Party, Big Daddys House and Down Home with the Neelys are all shown very early in the morning on Weekends. While Bobby Flay, Rachael Ray, Guy Fieri and Giada De Laurentiis flood Prime Time. If I see one more italian styled show I think I am going to scream....Seriously??? Come on people.
My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]
I remember in my youth the very first time I looked at the ingredients of WS and saw the word Anchovy. Of course this is after I had been using it for a very long time. I hate Anchovy, Sardines and Herrings with a passion and really tried to get a liking for them. All of a sudden it was like the taste of Anchovy magnified by a million. I stopped using WS for about two years. Growing a little older and developing my palate allowed me to once again fall in love with this beloved sauce.
~ What are some food items that are similar to Worcestershire sauce based on taste? ~

your favorite food movie..
I loved the movie 'Tortilla Soup'. I get hungry when I watch it.
Why is the Olive Garden so reviled?
I am a Food Snob but get dragged here on occasion when I am in America. This place attracts people because of price. It's a cheap outing for a family. I would never stand in line or wait no long period to get in here. Trying to get into the Times Sq place on a weekend is unbelievable. I only get the potato and sausage soup and a salad and never get an entree.
Food Network Star
I love the Next Food Network Star but I don't really take reality shows seriously. Many of these shows are so 'Producer influenced and induced' that you sit there with a catatonic stare. And please don't let America have to be involved in the voting....OMG..It can get scary. I would love to see Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson cook anything. They sit there from Culinary Mount Olympus reigning from on high, I would just love to see them in action...Just once.
Food Network Star, Week 2 (SPOILER)
Some shows have been scripted...I don't think that this one is. Other times contestants are asked to portray a certain character. Remember whimsical, peculiar, eccentric and bizarre behavior and drama keeps you watching.

Best soft serve I've ever had!
I do love soft serve. They have a good one here in Bermuda and trust me the owner is meticulously clean, so I go there all the time.
Best Thing I Ever Ate (Well some of them)
I am grateful to all of you who have contributed so far. I live in Bermuda so I do not get to try the many restaurants as the residents do.
My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]
My love affair began when I was a child. My Grandparents and Mother used this 'Miracle' Sauce just about on and in everything. I remember when my Mother made her famous breakfast and poured WS all over, my taste buds just began to sing.
Curries, Stews, Vegetable Juices, Poultry, Beef, Fish...I mean even some crazy combos got the sauce. Crispy Bacon and Banana Sandwiches with WS poured over went down so nice.
I cannot ever remember the cupboards being without this sauce and now I carry on this addictive tradition. I even carry it with me when I travel because I really like the English-Based, Lea and Perrins (Had to edit Crosse and Blackwell-did not mean them). The rest appear as poor imitations imo.
Just felt like sharing...Good Eating to you all.
Airline Meals
A bit off topic but just wanted to comment. I flew from Bermuda to Gatwick last December and was pleasantly surprised at the meal offered in World Traveler Plus. It consisted of Turkey, Ham, Cassava Pie, Stuffing, Carrots, Brussel Sprouts, Cranberry Sauce and a side Smoked Salmon Salad and Mince Tart for dessert. I was pleasantly surprised at this fare. I cannot imagine what Club or First Class had to offer.
Basically airlines are just there for transportation and Flight Attendants for Safety.
Best Thing I Ever Ate (Well some of them)
I love the Culinary adventures that New York offers the Palate. Here are some of mine and yes they are also the favorites of some Celebrity Chefs.
Devi
1. Mirchi Ka Salan: Very Hot and Spicy but every bite so 'moorish' - A must-try for heat seekers.
2. Tandoor-Grilled Lamb Chops: Every bite was Heaven
Fatty Crab
1. Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork: Incredible
2. Watermelon Drink with Kiffir Lime: I ordered three of these as they were so addictive
These are some of my favorites and there are many more.
Share what some of your favorites are.
Good Eating to you.
name 5 overrated, or over hyped or famous restaurants whose food doesn't live up to reputation
Because of Sex in the City, that's why they are lined up.

I went to the Shake Shack in the Park. When I ate the burger, I noticed that the meat was going off. I did not even bother to stand in that long line to report it. I was so disappointed.
If you were entertaining first time Tourists to New York??
These guest are coming from Bermuda and money is no object. BTW...There are no really great restaurants in Bermuda. These folk love gastronomic adventures.
Chelsea Market
I am glad someone started this post. I read in the recent Food Network Magazine that Chelsea Market was a place to visit in the New York section. Thanks for the comments.
If you were entertaining first time Tourists to New York??
What restaurants would you recommend and why? Can be any ethnicity and in any price range? I have been to New York many time as a visitor but I don't know everything. Just looking for some help. Many Thanks Chowhound Family.
South Street Seaport
Can't remember what the Pizza place is called. It is upstairs on the left facing the harbor. They were huge slices and they tasted very good. I love going to the Seaport area to chill and relax. Most tourists never get to the area.
South Street Seaport
Yeah I walked it and it is a nice walk. I have eaten at a few restaurants there-nothing to write home about. Typical tourist dives. I can tell you that they have a Pizza place in the top level of the mall. They have huge slices and it was amazing. Enjoy your visit.
Mirchi Ka Salan -Devi
I recently saw a clip of Ted Allen's 'Best Thing I Ever Ate ' of the Mirchi Ka Salan at Devi. I believe it was the Hot and Spicy show.
I so love Devi and try to get there on any visit to the Apple. Has anyone on Chowhound tasted this spicy stew? I would love to hear any reports.
Thanks
Fatty Crab is the worst meal I've ever had in New York
Well I finally got to visit Fatty Crab two nights ago. I have read so many blogs and comments about this place and watched Roger Mooking list a dish as one of his very favs. I just had to visit with two other friends.
I made reservations and arrived on time and we were escorted to our booth. The server explained how the food comes and we were left to order. I chose the Watermelon Juice to drink with my meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had ordered three by the end of the meal.
I chose the Fatty Dog, Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork and a side order of Toast and Sauce. My friends both ordered the Chicken Clay Pot and Chicken Satay.
Fatty Dog: 5/10 - It was ok, nothing exciting, would not order it again.
Watermelon Pickle and Crispy Pork: 10/10 Absolutley delicious and so worth trying. I would definetly go back to try that again. Roger Mooking was so right to pick this as one of the best combos he has tried.
Toast with Side sauce: 5/10 I did not feel like fighting with crab so I decided to try the much talked-about sauce with toast. I was very disappointed with the sauce. I had read so much about it and I was expecting something amazing. It was ok but to me nothing to write home about.
Chicken Clay Pot - 3/10 I tried some of my friends dish. When this hit my mouth, I thought.."Are you kidding me???" It was horrible, I mean soooo bland and salty. Do not try this..Ever.
Chicken Satay - 6/10 Ok dish. Chicken was good but I have tasted a better peanut sauce at other places.
Watermelon Juice: 10/10 Will try this again
I would visit Fatty Crab again to try other dishes. The service was very good. I did find it a bit pricy though.

Best Asian Fusion in NYC
So glad I found out about the dissolution of the creators and the other partner. I would not even waste my time going to the Lotus of Siam in New York now.

Are there frozen veg that you do not like?
I remember growing up and whenever frozen veg were put in front of me I became very unhappy. They always seemed to be overcooked. Over the years I grew a tolerance for some of them except carrots. I don't know what it is but I cannot eat frozen carrots in any meal. They taste so fake to me. It becomes another annoyance when you go to a restaurant and pay good money and they serve frozen veg. Anyway are there any frozen veg that you just do not like?
Best oxtail dishes in Manhattan?
I use to love the oxtails in lima bean gravy at Negril in Chelsea. They have since which closed and I have not tried them at the sister location.
