Was at the Moghul Room at the Oberoi Mena House, strange to think that I had such good Indian cusine in Cairo. My mouth still waters at the thought of their pakora in buttermilk gravy...

Leek and Potato Soup, really, so simple and so very good

My top 5 favorite restaurants:

So very hard, since I'm apt to like hole in the walls and street food as much as anything, but sticking with some local spots from home, Chambar, Thomas Haas which is so worth the trip across the bridge, Habibi's and Kadoya for budget friendly dining and La Bodega for a comfortable evening.

My most tattered cookbooks:

In the Sweet Kitchen by Regan Daley, James Peterson's Vegetables, (I like his seafood book as well), and Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone. All of them well thumbed for the encyclopedic entries as much as for the recipes themselves...Otherwise I simply keep purchasing ones to flip through which I never think to consult when actually cooking.
