Looking for a Vegan Cookbook that isn't heavy on tofu
I'm looking to incorporate more vegan cooking into my life for health reasons, but I really, truly dislike tofu. I was a vegetarian for two years and tried to cook tofu in a million different ways and I just don't like it. So I'm wondering if someone has found a good cookbook that relies more on grains, lentils, beans, etc. rather than on tofu and fake meat products (which I also loathe).
Where can I find fresh pork belly in the North Bay?
Awesome! I live in Petaluma and I had no idea G&G existed! Thanks so much!
Where can I find fresh pork belly in the North Bay?
I would love to make David Chang's pork buns and am looking for a good source of pork belly. I've already tried Whole Foods, but they only have frozen pork belly, and usually that's only on special request. Anyone have a great butcher in the North Bay, preferably Marin or Sonoma, that sells pork belly?
Place for Saturday lunch in Sonoma (or nearby) for 4 "normal eaters", one vegan and one 2 year old. HELP!
Try the Water Street Bistro in Petaluma -- they have wonderful, wonderful food. Warm, inventive soups, excellent main entrees and the owner, Stephanie, has kids of her own, so she will certainly welcome your little ones!
Best Ethiopian Food in San Diego?
Awesome -- I've totally heard of Buga. Will prob. go this Saturday.

Anyone got some recommendations? I'm also looking for Korean BBQ suggestions!
Your Favorite Fruit Pie Recipe?
I've got some pastry crust sitting in the fridge that needs to be used soon. Anyone got a neat, creative idea for a pie? I always make apple pie or a pear galette and need an idea for a pie that uses fruit(s) in season.
Old Brown Pelican location, Santa Barbara
The Boathouse has really good brunch. I was surprised, but I had a huevos rancheros-like dish and the salsa was so good I sopped up every last drop. Delicious pancakes, too. Fluffy, but substantial.
Price-wise, somewhat pricey, but given its location, not too surprising.
San Diego: Best Local, Seasonal Cuisine?
The Fishery in PB always has seasonal, fresh food and succulent fish. If I had to choose my favorite restaurant in SD, this would probably top the list.
Where to eat fish in Santa Barbara???
For a fancy place, you could check out Stella Mare's -- they have *amazing* fish with really good sides. Probably not dog-friendly.
For less pricey places, Fresco always has wonderful, fresh sandwiches and they do a lovely tuna melt. You can't go wrong with the fish tacos at the Natural Cafe (with several locations in Santa Barbara) and Brophy Brothers on the pier serves up big hunks of fresh-caught fish.
Best Farmer's Market in San Diego?
Thanks! I went to Hillcrest today and was quite pleased. Got an amazing crepe and some Turkish coffee and was on my merry way :)
Best Farmer's Market in San Diego?
I'm from Santa Barbara originally where we have lovely, bountiful farmer's markets. I moved here in June and have been so disappointed with the Del Mar and La Jolla farmer's markets in San Diego. There aren't that many produce vendors, everything is really expensive and they mostly sell clothes and trinkets these days!
Any farmer's markets in the area worth checking out?
Worst of San Diego and Most Over-rated
I also found Mille Feuille in San Diego to be a huge, overpriced disappointment. $2.25 for EACH macaroon and they were dry and overly sweet. Totally overrated.
