Seafood Main Course for 8 That Doesn't Break the Bank?

I had it served on newspaper in a very nice, but casual restaurant. Glad you classed it up a bit too.

>>>Rather than pouring it all out on newspapers, which turned my wife off, we put down a lot of newspapers covered by butcher paper<<<

Aw, you went from "low country" to "high country".
Sounds like lots of fun!

Seafood Main Course for 8 That Doesn't Break the Bank?

Excellent! I've had this while living in the South. It was served on a table covered with newspapers...a fun party-atmosphere dinner. Don't forget lots of napkins and make sure you have a can of Old Bay to sprinkle into the cooking mix.

>>>Hint: Before you put the lasagna/s in the oven slice through to establish the portions. This will allow you to serve 'pre-cut' portions.<<<

Excellent, Puffin! Even when I let it rest, my lasagna doesn't come out of the dish in nice serving pieces.

Any uses for an unripe avocado?

My friend was ready to make guac only to find the avocado was like a rock, so she asked her husband if he would back the car over it.
Happen years ago and we still laugh about it.

Does anyone still get the whole family together for Sunday dinner?

My SIL and I lost our husbands within months of each other. Sundays were really bummer days (daze). We decided to do something about Sundays, so we got together for Bloody Marys and lunch, trading off houses each Sunday. At first is was a commiserating Sunday, but now we solve family problems and issues of national interest. So, be at ease, each Sunday we come up with *the* answers....and today (Sun) will be no different.
BTW, we do try out special recipes each week.

What kind of restaurant has the highest profit margins?

>>>Buy better than what? <<<
My thought was a national upscale steakhouse should be able to "buy better" than Joe's local upscale, 1 place, steakhouse.

What kind of restaurant has the highest profit margins?

Tom, et al,
Thanks guys for all the info. I feel very enlightened.
Yes, the $12. baked potato! This place was slammed on a weekday. Where is all the disposable income coming from...can't all be expense accounts.

What kind of restaurant has the highest profit margins?

I find that amazing. I would think this chain could buy better...I'm still wondering. Are you familiar with huge, upscale restaurants and how they buy?

What kind of restaurant has the highest profit margins?

I recently dined at a nationally known upscale steakhouse. A diner in our group ordered a filet of beef. It was a good-sized filet wrapped in a single bacon slice set in the middle of a large plate...$40.00.
Now, there's an example of substantial profit margin.

canned potatoes - anyone cook with them?

That sounds wonderful. Don't the hot potatoes wilt the mesclun too much? I think I might let them cool a bit. I had this same salad in a French restaurant in Napa Valley, but they used smoked trout rather than sardines. Love sardines and they're easier to find.

ronojo, check these out. I really like them. They're not frozen and come in various combos. You'll find them in the cold, not frozen section.

Help! Intimate Rooftop Dinner Party Featuring Grilled Chicken?

If you're worried about the wine, I'd go with a pinot noir, more versatile and easier on the budget than a cab.
You didn't mention how many you would be serving. Have you considered flank steaks on the grill? They're fast-cooking and tasty if sliced thinly with an interesting sauce or maybe a Korean marinade.

Rotel Velveeta Dip

>>><<Interested in the bean dip recipes<<<

Try this one:
Fritos Bean Dip mixed with Homemade Chili. It's the chili in the squatty round jar. It's a bit sweet and goes nicely with the slightly spicy bean dip.

Duke's Mayo

It's in a plastic jar. I'm in about 100 degree temp. It would be in the UPS or FedX truck for ??, then on my front porch until I return home.

Duke's Mayo

Just curious, how did Amazon ship Duke's in dry ice? I'd like to order some, but think I'd have to be home as I couldn't let it sit out...too hot here.

Not in CA. It's a southern thing as far as I know. You can order off their site or Amazon though.

Anybody use a dinner bell ?

Fiona, I love the dinner bell for the cat!

I have a friend who has a string of sleigh bells handing on her slider to the backyard. Her Labradoddle rings them when he needs to go outside.
