I need party food ideas for 50 people, including kids

I'd make a crockpot full of chili to go with any of the sandwiches or the taco bar. Serve in disposable small bowls and have shredded cheese, onions, crackers to sprinkle on top.

Palm Springs Splurge Meal

Beach Chick, I totally agree with you! I have dined here many times and am *very* surprised to hear about Kat's experience. I looked at their site you posted and I'm wondering if they have gravitated to an emphasis on groups...after all that's where the big $$s are. If so, lunch might be a better option or inquire if they are hosting a party when you make your res.

Since this is your first visit to Carmel Valley and its tasting rooms, you might be interested in a tour. It would give you a nice overview.

Just Google. You can buy them on the internet. Tried to include the sites, but had trouble posting them.

Caprese Salad

I love this salad. During the summer, I like to use different varieties/colors of tomatoes for an interesting contrast.

Thanks greygarious, no need to ruin a dish just by dodging a bit of work. Think I had a moment of laziness there. Your points are valid.

Looking for help with winery recommendation Santa Ynez

glbtrtr,

What do you think of this plan for the OP since you know the area better than I do...
Leave the girls in Solvang to shop and have lunch, then the parents drive up to the Los Olivos area for tasting. Meet the girls at an appointed place and time in Solvang and continue on their way.

On the Topic of Finishing with Lemon Juice

I feel that red wine is far more affected than any white. At least that has been my experience, with the possible exception of artichokes which seem to taint both.

Cooking for One: A Widow's Challenge

jpr, is it possible to get together with some "alone" friends, go to a movie and then out to eat together? If not, then I'd go to the movies alone, pick up some take-out from a favorite place and eat in front of the TV.
If you want to spend the day cooking, then; small turkey, short ribs, pot roast...something that will make your home smell nice and taste good with leftovers.

Turkey breast roasting

Puffin, that sounds like the best method. Mine have always been dry. I think a couple slices of bacon draped over the breast will help and add a pleasant flavor too.

What to marinade my chicken in (Mexican recipe)

I cook 1/2 breasts of chicken (bone in, skin on) in chunked onion and celery. I sprinkle in a pkg of taco mix and simmer until chicken is falling apart. I drain all but a bit of the liquid, debone, "deskin" and shred chicken. Sprinkle another 1/2 pkg or so of taco mix and stir together. I let sit in fridge until I'm ready to put together tacos, enchiladas or tostados. I reheat gently.
I haven't checked, but I think the seasonings mentioned are in the mix pkgs.
