They didn't have it at The Grove location the two times I looked but I found it in Cost Plus in El Segundo/Manhattan Beach.
AND I found it at the Sprouts in Burbank, so... double bonus!

There's a bunch of the big chains around, but I like Owens (http://www.owensla.com) - but it's not cheap. There's also a Trader Joe's in WeHo.

Chocolate Chip Cookie
Curious Palate on Venice (and now in Santa Monica Place Mall I guess) serves great chocolate chip cookies with dark chocolate discs and sea salt. Mmmmmm.
The Village Idiot on Melrose is not a bakery, but they have AMAZING big soft chocolate chip cookies the size of your HEAD. I have stopped by to JUST get the cookie (they look at you weird but it's worth it)

I don't know how legit it is, but i have to say i am a fan of the streusel topped variety. Although the most important thing is the ratio and quality of chocolate to bread (more sugary or more fudge y)
