Diabetic bakeries or eateries

The brand is queen street bakery? I haven't seen them at Loblaws. Which one have you seen it in?

I've heard of the Pita brand..>I can't remember what it's called, but they come in all varities. I'll look out for that one.

Do you not take any meds to control your blood sugar?

I live in the core, so if you can suggest a loblaws downtown that sells that, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot!

Diabetic bakeries or eateries

Is there one low carb bread you an suggest? I got ezekiel but I found it was really thin and dense. I like the stonemill one but it's very small.

I thought I heard from a diabetic that stevia can raise blood sugar, or maybe it depends on the person. Have you ever had issues with stevia?

Thanks

Diabetic bakeries or eateries

See, everyone says that diabetes is on the rise. It's clear that everything that is mass produced is chalk full of sugar.

I thought that in going with the gluten free, carb free lifestyle, people may want to offer things with less sugar just as a health alternative.

Diabetic bakeries or eateries

Hi all,

I've been having a hard time finding any bakeries that sell diabetic friendly treats.

I've heard the feast has an avocado chocolate ice cream bar but for $6 it sounds expensive and a bit pricey for what you get.

I find it hard to believe there aren't more diabetic options in Toronto. Any opinions?

Looking for everything sweet from ice cream to cupcakes.

Thanks

Rib Fest 2015

I found it was expensive a few years back in Mississauga and that was when it was $20 for a few ribs.

Is it true that alot of the ribfest vendors are from the states or are they canadian?

Battle Of The Asian Open Air Markets!

Maybe it's just me but I've gone to the chinatown festival every year. It's always the same as I described earlier.

It can never morph into taste of the danforth because they don't have the sponsorship. If you can get a major company to dole out freebies, then you can get traffic.

It tries to be up there but it falls a bit flat. I mean, you need to have people willing to set up stalls.

A few years back I remember Lee Garden and the big restaurant on Spadina had stalls which was a nice touch.

Metro Square? Really? Are there good food eateries there? I went a few months ago and it seems like a shell of its former self.

Mon Lee Co - 282 Dundas St W

I think it used to sell bbq meats back in the day. Now it's just a vegetable wholesaler.

Battle Of The Asian Open Air Markets!

I've gone to the waterfront market and Night it up last year. This is my take on it.

The first year was great for the waterfront T&T one. But the subsequent years I've found the venue to be smaller (less food stalls), they have put rides and games in there but I don't think it's really worth it. It detracts from the food.

It's generally the same thing, fish balls, stinky tofu, potato tornado...

Night it up was ok, but I actually found it was really busy. I went on Sunday and it was crowded to the point where we couldn't get around.

Usual suspects, bubble tea, fish balls, stinky tofu, you get the idea.

I think it's a good concept but I'd be impressed if there were more unique items. Youd' think with a big asian population, there'd be a little more than the same stuff repeated...

Taste of Toronto 2015

I was surprised there wasn't more mention of it. I don't like hte idea that these tasting events are steep on the wallet. $50 for tapas that won't necessarily get you full...

The Costco Thread - Ontario - 2015 - January to March

This isn't a new food find but I'd like to get the experts say...

I just went to Costco today and I saw the chicken and turkey sausages with sundried tomatoes. It tastes just like a pork sausage in texture.

I am getting these for a diabetic, the sugar level is low albeit the sodium is a bit high. It says there is only 7g of fat. Is this real? Has anyone else tried these to get an opinion on them? I'm sure they are sold at every costco.

CNE - 2014 - Food at the Ex

I didn't like the waffle, I found it disappointing...it tasted like it was made from stove top...

I went the first saturday, long line up and for $11 I thought it was steep.

I got two fish tacos from Buster's sea cove yesterday...They were good last year when I had them but yesterday they were unmemorable.

When I got to the cash, I asked if I could get one fish taco and one ahi tuna...the guy at the front said I could but the order taker (I guess is the owner) said too late sweetheart, I already wrote it down...

So what I got was very meh...I thought Pancho's bakery 3 Churros for $5 wasn't bad considering the costs for everything else.

Bakeries that bake birthday cake from scratch

I think we ended up getting a cake at Nadedge on Queen St.

To be honest, if you like a light sponge cake any Chinese Bakery makes the cakes from scratch. Hong Kong Island on Spadina by Dundas in chinatown is such a place. If you plan on driving though, there's construction in the area.

This place makes cakes by weight, well...not really but it's 1 lb, 2 lbs and up. Worth checking out if you just want a light, airy cake with a whipped cream and fruit...

My market bakery

Hi,

Does anyone know why My Market bakery closed in the market? I went by yesterday and I was very surprised that htey up and closed down.

Various incarnations of my market have been opening and briefly closing over the years in Kensington market so I wonder if they are coming back again or if this is it.

I'll have to trek further to get my portugese buns!

Best Doughnuts/Donuts in Toronto: 2014

I didn't find them excessively fresh...maybe it's because I'm spoiled from the memory of the lemon meriangue from GHD...it was like eating a pillow...too bad they don't make them anymore :(

I thought you loved them kwass, it's been a while.

I agree, I'd like to love JMD, but I just don't...they sort of taste like the tim horton's honey dip...

If the original chef has left...then I don't know what to think...they weren't that great shortly after they opened, if they are worse now...then I'm definately not going to try them again.

Dragon Legend reviews?

I don't wan to commit blasmphemy here...the lack of replies tells me CH's do not do buffets.

However, which buffet would you say is good? IMO dragon pearl is the best one, and I rank it along with Mandarin. I'm not talking authentic chinese at mandarin but the quality is comparable for what you pay.

Dragon Legend reviews?

My birthday is coming up and I like going to Dragon pearl, it's a buffet and I like that. I like the variety and the quality is pretty good. It's a bit too dark for my taste, and I'm not a fan of the lacquer.

I recently heard that Dragon Legend is dragon pearl's sister.

Anyone been there? How does it compare? I usually don't eat dim sum at buffet's at night because well...I only eat that for dim sum.

Appreciate any suggestions or opinions because this place is more expensive than DP, if it's not that great we'll just go to the usual suspect.

Best Doughnuts/Donuts in Toronto: 2014

I was going to go there today because the gardiner was closed and we'd have to make a detour on the bloor exit to the dvp. I was disappointed to learn that they were out of the lemon donuts...Didn't have time to stop by to try out the other flavours and risk getting something I didn't like.

The guy said creme brulee was the best seller...the pb jelly one looks good but I'm not a fan of peanut better that much.

Is the Lemon comparable to the lemon meringue from GHD? That was amazing...

Which location was this? I find that usually I have to flag them down to get anything. Surprised they came up to you to offer take out boxes....

We used to be regulars there..but when the manager went to another location the service went with him. Even though one of the main mgr's came over to introduce us to the new mgr so she could take care of us...nope...previous visits she completely forgot about us....we went from regular customers (getting the free dessert) to nobody....

Luckee

Is the price $$$$ One thing I don't like about going to places like Lee is that it's very fou fou and the servers are pompous.

I don't like dives, but I also don't want to be treated like a second class person if I'm not a dim sum connoisseur in their eyes.

The Costco Thread - Ontario - 2014 - April to June

That's the frozen brand that they sell at every Costco I've been to (etobicoke, Mississauga, Markham).

I think there's a variety of slices in there.

Have you tried the Gizelle cheesecake? It's on sale this week.

I've had the PC cheesecakes and they are good IMO, especially based on the fact that the crust does not stick to the bottom of the plate (what happened with the fresh one we bought).

I know everyone on here really liked teh Cheesecake factory ones, but in the meantime until I can get there. Anyone got any opinions on the one on sale this week?
