I didn't like the waffle, I found it disappointing...it tasted like it was made from stove top...

I went the first saturday, long line up and for $11 I thought it was steep.

I got two fish tacos from Buster's sea cove yesterday...They were good last year when I had them but yesterday they were unmemorable.

When I got to the cash, I asked if I could get one fish taco and one ahi tuna...the guy at the front said I could but the order taker (I guess is the owner) said too late sweetheart, I already wrote it down...

So what I got was very meh...I thought Pancho's bakery 3 Churros for $5 wasn't bad considering the costs for everything else.

Bakeries that bake birthday cake from scratch

I think we ended up getting a cake at Nadedge on Queen St.

To be honest, if you like a light sponge cake any Chinese Bakery makes the cakes from scratch. Hong Kong Island on Spadina by Dundas in chinatown is such a place. If you plan on driving though, there's construction in the area.

This place makes cakes by weight, well...not really but it's 1 lb, 2 lbs and up. Worth checking out if you just want a light, airy cake with a whipped cream and fruit...

My market bakery

Hi,

Does anyone know why My Market bakery closed in the market? I went by yesterday and I was very surprised that htey up and closed down.

Various incarnations of my market have been opening and briefly closing over the years in Kensington market so I wonder if they are coming back again or if this is it.

I'll have to trek further to get my portugese buns!

Best Doughnuts/Donuts in Toronto: 2014

I didn't find them excessively fresh...maybe it's because I'm spoiled from the memory of the lemon meriangue from GHD...it was like eating a pillow...too bad they don't make them anymore :(

I thought you loved them kwass, it's been a while.

I agree, I'd like to love JMD, but I just don't...they sort of taste like the tim horton's honey dip...

If the original chef has left...then I don't know what to think...they weren't that great shortly after they opened, if they are worse now...then I'm definately not going to try them again.

Dragon Legend reviews?

I don't wan to commit blasmphemy here...the lack of replies tells me CH's do not do buffets.

However, which buffet would you say is good? IMO dragon pearl is the best one, and I rank it along with Mandarin. I'm not talking authentic chinese at mandarin but the quality is comparable for what you pay.

Dragon Legend reviews?

My birthday is coming up and I like going to Dragon pearl, it's a buffet and I like that. I like the variety and the quality is pretty good. It's a bit too dark for my taste, and I'm not a fan of the lacquer.

I recently heard that Dragon Legend is dragon pearl's sister.

Anyone been there? How does it compare? I usually don't eat dim sum at buffet's at night because well...I only eat that for dim sum.

Appreciate any suggestions or opinions because this place is more expensive than DP, if it's not that great we'll just go to the usual suspect.

Best Doughnuts/Donuts in Toronto: 2014

I was going to go there today because the gardiner was closed and we'd have to make a detour on the bloor exit to the dvp. I was disappointed to learn that they were out of the lemon donuts...Didn't have time to stop by to try out the other flavours and risk getting something I didn't like.

The guy said creme brulee was the best seller...the pb jelly one looks good but I'm not a fan of peanut better that much.

Is the Lemon comparable to the lemon meringue from GHD? That was amazing...

Which location was this? I find that usually I have to flag them down to get anything. Surprised they came up to you to offer take out boxes....

We used to be regulars there..but when the manager went to another location the service went with him. Even though one of the main mgr's came over to introduce us to the new mgr so she could take care of us...nope...previous visits she completely forgot about us....we went from regular customers (getting the free dessert) to nobody....

Luckee

Is the price $$$$ One thing I don't like about going to places like Lee is that it's very fou fou and the servers are pompous.

I don't like dives, but I also don't want to be treated like a second class person if I'm not a dim sum connoisseur in their eyes.

The Costco Thread - Ontario - 2014 - April to June

That's the frozen brand that they sell at every Costco I've been to (etobicoke, Mississauga, Markham).

I think there's a variety of slices in there.

Have you tried the Gizelle cheesecake? It's on sale this week.

I've had the PC cheesecakes and they are good IMO, especially based on the fact that the crust does not stick to the bottom of the plate (what happened with the fresh one we bought).

I know everyone on here really liked teh Cheesecake factory ones, but in the meantime until I can get there. Anyone got any opinions on the one on sale this week?

I don't think I'll get there till at least a few months (I was hoping they'd still carry it regularly)...sigh...Is costco the only place that sells cheesecake factory?

O&B Canteen

I always assumed the pricing was reaaally out there. That seems decent for $12 and seems to be fair game these days.

Will check it out.

Thanks, I'll try it. Is this the only store in the GTA that still carries it?

I want to save myself some disappointment and the trip up there to get this...

Does the crust get stuck to the plate/bottom of the cake thing? The 'fresh' one that we got, the crust is entirely stuck on there. You have to use something to dig it out and it's not easy to dig it out. Even then, it's as if someone squished the crust to the bottom so it's tough to get out.

Which stores carry the cheesecake factory cheesecake? I'd been looking for it for a few years but I only ever saw the brand they currently sell at Etobicoke, and Mississauga/Heartland and Hwy 7.

I'd like to get everyone's opinion on cheesecake. I know everyone has said the cheesecake that was previously sold (I think it was cheesecake factory or Carole's cheesecake - though I never recall ever seeing that in any of the stores I went to, I just see the same brand they carry now).

How does the frozen cheesecake compare to the one made instore? I got the one instore and tasted it, it was good enough to buy. But when we got home, the crust is literally stuck to the round thing at the bottom. I noticed the lady doing the demo had some difficulty getting it out but I assumed it was because she was in a rush.

I wonder if it's worth it to buy the frozen variety (I can't remember the name but it's not the one people on here have been talking about).

Sud Forno

Hmm, either the sandwich deals are over or my sandwich is a deal in the eyes of some chowhounders.

I went in there today cause Iwanted to get a sandwich or somethign to eat for later. Actually I wanted to get "It's all GRK" but I didn't want to go back out later.

I went to Sud Forno, I was going to get the brioche bun (I was hoping it would taste like the same Brioche I had when I was in Montreal ten years ago, it had some sugar sprinkled on top and I haven't seen any like that since). Anyways, as she was going to wrap it up with some Nutella, I noticed them bring a tray of sandwiches. It looked good so I decided to get a sandwich instead.

It was one with Prosciutto, I have never eaten prosutto before because well..I'm not adventerous when it comes to all the fat. When she rang it through my eyes nearly popped out. $9 for the sandwich...I could have gotten a nice Chicken Pita at It's all Grk...sigh but I thought, when in rome....

The bread was very fresh, just the way I like it. I've had their sandwiches before and it was later in the day and the soggy tomatoes don't do it justice at that time of day. Anyways, I couldn't really taste the Mozerella...it almost had a bonnacinni texture, it was also tasteless...That or this is what Mozerella is supposed to taste like and whatever I've eaten is just 'fake' cheese.

The donuts look good, didn't try one today...I'll have to try the Cannollli's the next time I'm there which won't be for a while.

Flap steak at Asian market

really? Ouch, I'll avoid those dishes.

But it's so tender! We always thought it was tenderized with baking soda, we tried that but it's not the same quality as with the restaurant.

I thought I'd get the strawberry shortcake (I don't usually buy the cakes because we can't finish it before it goes bad)

We were disappointed. It was just strawberry jam throughout the cake. Not worth it for $15. I'd bring it back but we already finished it. Definately not going to be getting this one again.

New Ho King

I haven't been there recently but some things are standard.

They've got a big western clientel so if youre talking about old school fake chinese food, this place is pretty good.

I've had the fried rice, chicken wings are ok, maybe really big wings. The egg rolls are very good (of course I just like the outside wrapper, and chicken balls are ok I think.

I really like that bread. It smells divine too and you can smell it inside the bag from a distance!

Only bad thing is nobody likes to eat the bread except me and it's a bit pricey at $5 but a nice treat every now and then.
