There's a new Fionn McCool's now open in the Yonge and Davisville area - just south of Balloil on Yonge. Some new competition for the revamped Friar a few doors down. This Fionn's features an outside patio - something the now-closed Fionn's at Yonge and St. Clair was sadly lacking.

An Il Fornello just opened out in Ajax, so maybe with the Harbourfront, Yonge/St. Clair closings as well as the Church St. one a few years back, the company is focusing more on the 'burbs where rents are lower and people know the brands from times when they've come downtown. Just a guess.

A waitress at Fionn's told us before the closure that the owners didn't want to pay the licencing fees for the Fionn McCool name. Seems like someone got greedy, changed the direction of the restaurant and paid big time for such a stupid decision.

That Mexican place was awful! Not surprised at all that it closed again - and again - and again. The food was visually disgusting and didn't taste much better. Good riddance.

It's been open for a few months now, but Panier Rouge is a new sandwich place on Yonge Street just south of St. Clair. It's pretty much a replica of Pret a Manger, the UK's choice sandwich/coffee on the go chain. Panier Rouge's sandwiches are fresh and really yummy. Much better than the pretentious offerings across the street at the over hyped Delica.

Another St. Clair & Yonge restaurant bites the dust. Il Fornello, at the corner of Yonge & Delisle is going bye bye on July 27. Word has it that the landlord jacked up the rent and the owners balked at renewing the lease. Soon there will be no where to eat in this neighbourhood.
