NEED SOME HELP FOR VACATION IN CHICAGO !

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the input.

Update: I'm in Chicago right now. So far, had a pretty good time. Went to Publican last night. Had an excellent fried cauliflower and fish. I'm not sure how it was made, but I think there was no batter, and was actually just rolled in chickpea flour, turmeric, and cumin. The lemon dripped on it afterwards was great. Unfortunately, that, the service, and the atmosphere were the only pluses on any review I'd write. Other than that, it would probably get a 3 1/2 star review. The bread was a bit stale, the mushrooms I ordered were boring, and the raspberry dessert had no lavender, as on the menu, and the olive oil cake either didn't have a high-quality oil, or the oil was added too early, as it just tasted like pound cake. Too bad. I was excited.

I have never actually been into Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous, as it has always been closed when I try to go. You must go to Bi-Rite, and I would really recommend Three Twins Ice cream. (If you don't make it to the place itself, many SF groceries sell it also.)

I want to add a couple of new places to our itinerary--can you help?

Also, if you like Indian, I would definitely recommend Curry Village, in the Inner Sunset. Yes, a name that sounds like average food, but actually very good! I happen to be half Indian and have lived in SF my whole life, and this is my current favorite. The service is very nice, and the Bollywood music videos can be either a little distracting if you are with friends, or a fun way to pass time alone. There is an evening buffet I LOVE! $15. Includes drinks from the best chai in the city to mango lassi to soda. Includes desserts from kheer (Indian rice pudding, also the best in the city), to khulfi (halfway between ice cream and frozen yogurt). Includes appetizers from pappadum to samosas (the only thing not so great there). And of course, there are also excellent curries, a good biryani, and excellent naans.

Ok. Shanghai Dumpling King is absolutely a must if you are in SF!!! It is really incredible. It is the restaurant for all special occasions in my family. We love it. Of course, their dumplings are great. If there are vegetarians in your party, it is a good place to go, but not vegetarian-centric like some places. If you are willing to spend just a little bit extra to get the pea sprouts, those are excellent, as are the green beans. On our most recent trip, we had this spicy fish stew thing that was amazing! Be careful when you go if you don't eat spicy food, as a lot is spicy, but the menu clearly lists what is spicy, so that shouldn't be an issue. Lastly, for dessert, they have these sugar-egg-puffs that are to die for! It is like a huge donut, but more hollow. There is a kind of custardy layer inside, and the outside is covered in sugar. All in all, you should definitely consider Shanghai Dumpling King!

Best Indian San Francisco

I understand that it may be a bit late, but I would definitely recommend Curry Village, in the Inner Sunset. Yes, a name that sounds like average food, but actually very good! I guess it is way too late for a June 30th dinner, but a must-visit, off-the-beaten-track Indian place while you are in the city.

BEST ICE CREAM IN CHICAGO?

Heya, Fellow Foodies!

I am going to Chicago pretty soon with my dad. His birthday is also really soon. Two things he particularly likes are ICE CREAM, and someone showing that they have done some research. TO combine these, I would like to have a list of some of the best ice cream places in Chicago. Does anyone know where to go?

Thanks!

NEED SOME HELP FOR VACATION IN CHICAGO !

Hello fellow foodies!

I am going to Chicago for about a week pretty soon, and I am looking for some of the best food around. I am particularly looking for slightly out-of-the-way places that are smaller and unknown by most tourists. Another way to phrase that is that I am looking for the gems. Two members of my party are pescetarian, no meat, but fish, but a restaurant with some meat is good. I would prefer places with $10-$25 entrees. Also, fun places, like breweries, donut-shops, and ice cream places would be great, too. Lastly, I am particularly looking for places in or close to Near North, Old Town, or Gold Side.

Thanks so much, and I look forward to exploring the culinary delights Chicago has to offer!
