Private dining in wine cellar for 15-18 people?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! It turns out there will be a few people out of town, so it's only 15 people. This has opened our options up a bit. It seems that 14-15 is the cutoff for many places.

We're thinking of squeezing into wd-50, which has a table for 14 in their wine cellar. Will let you know how it goes!

Private dining in wine cellar for 15-18 people?

For my dad's 60th birthday - willing to go high end in terms of price (but not low end in terms of food quality!), but it's been hard to find a place that will seat more than 14.

Looking for something below 23rd street in Manhattan preferably, but willing to accept other ideas. Everyone is from the area - most live in the suburbs but know NYC dining pretty well. A restaurant that is hip but cozy would be perfect.

Non-wine cellar space suggestions would be great, too, as long as there's something interesting about them (chef's table, etc.).

Unfortunately, this is for mid-December, prime holiday party season.

Thanks!

Downtown birthday dinner suggestions?

New suggestions!

Downtown birthday dinner suggestions?

I know this is possibly a boring post, but I'm trying anyway.

Here are the deets, as they say:
A group of late-20s and early-30s people who have all lived (and therefore eaten) in NYC for 5-10 years. Most of us live downtown (below 23rd) or in BK. We will be celebrating a 27th birthday on a weekday. Not a super important birthday, but want to get together anyway.

Should be below 23rd, with several wine options that are not overly overpriced (if you know what I mean). Not necessarily looking for a serious meal, either. We're expecting that people will be showing up at various different times given work schedules.

Here's what we like:
Tia Pol
Gottino
dell'anima
La Esquina
Morandi
Les Enfants Terrible
Grape and Grain (which is where we'll go if there are no other suggestions)

I think that's all...

Moving to Lower East Side (Clinton & Grand St)

Most of those places will NOT deliver to Clinton/Grand, btw.

Moving to Lower East Side (Clinton & Grand St)

I'm curious - what makes it so fabulous?

We're Going to Per Se, So We're Eating Street/Really Cheap Food for the Rest our Trip. Ideas?

The Dosa Cart in Washington Square Park is delicious, and you can get gelato from the Otto cart at the other end, too.

Indian Mangos in Manhattan?

There are tons of different kinds of mangoes, but the season is quite short, and most certainly over.

What is the best Indian restaurant in NYC

I assume you mean chicken tikki masala? Chicken marsala is Sicilian, if I'm not mistaken.

Dinner near Rubin Museum?

Any place in the West Village is a closer walk than you'd think.

Bar Room at The Modern?

You don't need to wear a jacket. We walked in from the museum itself and were both wearing jeans, but not sneakers.

What is the best Indian restaurant in NYC

Definitely Tamarind. Devi is lovely too, though.

Disappointed in Economy Candy

I love The Sweet Life and always recommend it to people over EC, although the hours are sometimes unpredictable.

Favorite Chinatown bakery?

The "orange awning" bakery is Golden Carriage.

Favorite Chinatown bakery?

Do you mean Golden Carriage on the NW corner? The NE corner is a column of marble...

West 20's recommendation

Well, it's not new at all but I love Tia Pol.

In need of a little Christmas

I definitely second Rolf's. It's insanity, in a good way.

NYC bound and need a restaurant plan...help?

Pegu on Houston for cocktails is a must.

If you had to choose between the following restaurants...

What would you choose? I'm planning to "take" (by which I mean, he will end up paying) my dad for his birthday. The list is based on what's available on Tuesday around 8pm.

-Apizz
-Hearth
-Crispo
-Falai
-Maremma
-Mercer Kitchen
-The Orchard

Menu suggestions welcome too.
Thanks!

Serendipity 3 and then Dylan's Candy Bar. But only if they've not been to either place before.

Indian in the E. 50's (Ada, Chola, Amma, Dawat, Mint, et al)?

For non-fancy Indian whose food rises above pretty good you'll need to go to someone's house!

Chinese Mirch is better than I-Chin - same people, diff nabe.

Save me from Hogs-n-Heffers

Mangia e Bevi is the worst place ever! I know the OP said jeans/tshirt, but this place is bachelorette HELL. Unless, of course, you enjoy it when the waiters break out the tambourines every five minutes during your meal. Strangely enough, the pizza I had was quite delicious.

need good recs for annual business lunch (ie, FREE MEAL!!)

Aquavit? Cafe Gray?

Brunch at Cookshop

So I finally went to Cookshop for brunch. We shared the beignet starter, and it was delicious, as aquasar said. I got a fingerling, escarole and parmesan frittata which would have been good had it not been scaldingly hot. My bloody mary was good though.

Conveniently, it's possible to make reservations for brunch. It's nice to not have to wait an hour (coughPrunecough)! However, we did end up waiting half an hour for a waiter to ask us if we were ready to order. Thankfully no one rushed us out. That would have pissed me off.

Brunch was good, better than Prune, and worth the non-wait. I won't be going back next weekend, but perhaps one day.

Virgin Visit to Manhattan

Well if you're going to go to Il Laboratorio, I'd go to Kossar's for a bialy instead of Ess-A-Bagel. It's not too far away. Although if you're there you might want a Doughnut from the DP...

help me win a chow bet!

I'd agree in principle that these restaurants are on B'way, however, the Per Se website lists its address as 10 Columbus Circle. Unfortunately, this is not in your favor.

Westville

I pretty much think everything about Westville rocks. Their chili dog (if you're into that sort of thing) is great too.

pongal, Madras Mahal, or Chennai Garden?

Madras Mahal!
