Best noodle soups in San Gabriel Valley?

Ding Garden's beef stew is better than the Mandarin Noodle IMHO. I like them spicy, so I requested extra spicy.
Best Pho in SGV is probably at Pho Ha in Industry/Rowland Heights, but it's not comparable to Pho 79 in Westminster. I used to live in San Jose, so I think I am a little spoiled when it comes to Pho. I think most Pho places in San Jose were better than the ones here.

Vietnamese in Westminster for lunch tomorrow, need great rec.

I'd say Pho 79 in Westminster is pretty good, one of the oldest one I believe. There are few of them, we've been to the one at Hazard and Brookhurst, and the one inside the Asian Garden Mall in Little Saigon.

What are your favorite dives and cheap eats WORTH THE DRIVE?

For LA and West side, I think Porto Bakery should be up there, cheap yet good pastries.
- Portos, my faves re guava and guava and cheese from $0.70-$.75 each

I don't live anywhere near downtown or west ho, so I'd stick with cheap local eats like:
- Taco del Rio on Azusa in La Puente, great for carne asada/el pastor ($5 bucks), better than Albertos IMHO
- Molcasalsa in Fullerton (Imperial and Harbor), best Adobada and Super Fries. ($5-7), the only place I ever found Adobada burrito.
- 85C for Asian/French fusion bread, better quality than other deli/bakery in the area, my faves are red bean mochi, brioche, raisin bread, taro and choco chip (from $1-$1.85)
- Seafood Village (to go only area), in Rowland Heights, cheap dim sum and take out Chinese food from $1.75 to $3.50 each, choices are limited though. I know there are cheaper dim sum places in Rosemed, Monterey Park etc but this one is decent quality.
- Eastern Express Cafe, Rowland Heights, good for cheap cold dish chinese food 3 item plus boba for $5. I can't even buy the ingredients for the price.
- Asian Garden food court in Westminster for cheap Viet food.
- Tampopo in Buena Park for cheap Sashimi Don and Ramen.
- Golden Wall, a small hole in the wall in La Mirada, good for lunch special, Kung pao and eggplant.
- Kim Tar in Industry for the roast duck. Better than Seafood Village's or Sam Woo's.A

And many more.

How many jumbo or large prawns in a pound?

Depends on what your definition of jumbo or large prawn. In Asia, the real jumbo one was about 3-4 per pound. Japan's specialty live prawn market demands U10 (Kilo) or under 10 prawn per kilo for jumbo (1 kilo is about 2.2 lbs). In the US, the largest one I found in supermarket was U-10 (lbs) or less than 10 prawns per pound, and it's usually only at Asian Markets (I could be wrong, others may carry these too but I have not seen them at American Markets). The more common one is the 16-20 prawns per pound, which is often called as extra large shrimp/prawn.

Where To Buy Unhusked Coconuts In the Los Angeles Area???

Hmmh, did not know that. Interesting, that's all I can say. I guess you have to find the exact climate/weather for it.

Thanks,

Young green coconuts?

I believe unhusked coconut is illegal in Cali, due to the possibilities of having fruit flies inside. Foreign pests can cause a havoc in California Agriculture industry.

Where To Buy Unhusked Coconuts In the Los Angeles Area???

Yes, there may be fruit flies in the unhusked coconut. I was born in SE Asia where coconut is plentiful and I can vouch for that. To be safe, go buy the coconut seed at the local nursery, but I doubt they will grow due to the weather/climate here in Cali. Same thing with banana trees.
