ISO: Etobicoke's equivalent of Diana's Seafood
I have gotten fresh oysters at Allseas/Mikes a bunch of times in the summer. Haven't been in the winter to know if they are a seasonal thing or not.
Never been to Diana's so I can't compare the two, but it appears that Allseas/Mike's is the best option in the area.
Challenge - $50 budget at SLM for antipasto gift
If you had a budget of $50 and wanted to make an "antipasto in a box" gift at St. Lawrence Market, what vendors who you go to and what would you buy at them.
The gift is for someone that could be described as an "ultimate foodie".
Best Burger- Walking Distance from Eaton Center
I am sad to report that on Saturday night we had a similar experience as ingloriouseater at the Q&B. Burger was not nearly as good as before and the service was CRAP. We will not be returning to the Q&B again.
Save me from Chain food please = Great plain Food in Niagra / Niagra on the Lake area
I need to respectfully disagree with this. We brought my grandmother here and she enjoyed it. There is no one I know more meat and potatoes then my 80+ year old grandmother.

I actually saw it at Costco the other day.
Frontera timing question
After reading all the wonderful posts on Frontera on chowhound, I feel it is one of those places that I must check out on my weekend in Chicago. Visiting on labour day weekend, so it is too late to try to get reservations but have a question about their walk in times.
We don't want to eat until late on the Saturday night say anywhere from 9 - 11pm, what is the best way to get a table? Would it be better to show up later in the evening and get put on the wait list then? Do they cut off walk-ins at a certain time? Or can you show up, put your name on the list and they give you a call on your cell phone when a table is ready, so that you don't have to stand around there waiting?
I have no issues waiting for a table, but would prefer to not have to stand around at Frontera for 2 hours.
Also any recommendations for a place on Sunday night? Looking for up scale $150 - $200 all in. for 2 people. We are staying at the Hyatt Regency (E. Wacker), but I have no issues with travelling for good food.
Pickled/preserved Herring in Toronto (NOT sweet)
Starsky's has a million different types of herring, I was looking at it all this weekend.

Bier Markt on the Esplanade - Recommendations?
With all those great restaurants in the area why would you need to go to Beer Bistro twice?
I agree with others that you should for sure skip the Bier Market. I like Beer Bistro but don't think it warrants 2 visits in a row.
Do you have some criteria that the restaurant needs to have the word beer in it?

Need new foodie shopping destination in SWO, not STLM
+1 for st. jacobs
Not sure what Kagemusha's issue with the place is, but if you go in the right season you can buy a ton of fruits and veggies direct from the farmer. There are also a couple of butchers inside where you are buying right from the farm. I was actually surprised on my last visit there last year when I realize that many of the fruit & veggie places were from Niagara and realized that Niagara doesn't have a great farmers market.
Plus you can drive 5 mins from the place and buy straight from the farm at many of the Mennonite homes that sell as the road side.
To me SLM sound more like what Kagemusha described then St. Jacobs.
Bumpkin's--any recent visits?
Don't get your hopes up for the inside, it is also stuck in the past in a very boring way.
Bumpkin's--any recent visits?
Went to a retirement party dinner there a couple weeks ago. The best way to describe it was that it was "fine". The food wasn't bad, but I wouldn't characterize it as good either, just fine might also use the word boring. Although the crème caramel for dessert was bad. The food is definitely stuck in the past.
Not a foodie place to go at all. Go across the road to Fire on the East Side for a way better experience for about the same price.

Thanks for posting this!
As a tourist it is hard to know where to look and sometimes these boards are hard to navigate when you are not from the area. These 4 posts really made life easier.
ISO Frank's hot sauce in 4 litre container
The NG Cash & Carry's should carry this in the 4 litre bottle.
After work drinks spot
I am curious where chowhounder's like to go in Toronto for their after work drinks. Do you have a favorite pub? Do you go to high end places? Have a cheap little spot that no one knows about? How is the bar food?

Well we tried out the Factory last night and it was the WORST poutine I have EVER had. It was disgusting.
The fries tasted like they had been cooked (not blanched but cooked) at least twice and then had been dropped back into the grease that was probably really old to reheat them. The gravy had zero flavour to it at all.
I had bought a deal off of Teamsave that was suppose to provide me with a large poutine and a pop. My "large" poutine came in a little container that was smaller then the regular poutine my SO had ordered. I feel completely ripped off since I did actually pay money for the deal off of Teamsave.
The place itself was really uninviting. The restaurant that they look to be opening up looks really nice, but after having such a horrible experience with the poutine I will not be eating there.
Final note ... they had no vinegar. What type of place serves fries and doesn't carry vinegar? It costs nothing to buy 4L bottle of vinegar, run across the street to No Frills and serve vinegar. Oh yeah and salt and pepper shakers as opposed to have to spoon on salt and pepper from a dish would have been nice.
Where do find chili paste?
Don't most of the grocery stores sell this now. Pretty sure I have seen it at No Frills and Loblaws before.
There are also a ton of Asian grocery stores throughout the Toronto that would carry it, there are not all just located in Chinatown. I am sure that if you told us what part of the city you are in someone could give you a better indication of where to go.
SEEKING TORONTO RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS
If you are planning to eat at the game, I recommend filing your family up with a hot dog each outside of the Rogers Centre. This will cut down on your food budget at the game considerably. Inside the hot dogs are about $5 each and aren't much bigger then a small red hot hot dog. Outside they are probably about $3 each and will be a lot bigger. All the vendors sell the same product so it doesn't matter which one you go to. Not sure if they differ by price at all.
Alternatively, I would recommend an early dinner at Le Select prior to the game. On Wellington just east of Spandia about a 5 min walk to the stadium. www.leselect.com

Too funny, I was thinking the Flying Saucer too, but was scared about what people would comment about it. Don't really remember the food but had a TON of great memories there. But yes usually after a night out.
Chinese takeout for tonight in south Etobicoke or east Mississauga
We go to Mai Mai Restaurant on Lakeshore for our chinese fix. Located a couple of blocks west of Kipling on Lakeshore. Hole in the wall family run chinese restaurant. Also we find the prices to be really good.
Be interested to hear where others get their chinese food fix in that area.

Looking for a restaurant near 700 University (University & College) suitable for lunch interview.
Well I do like Mercatto, I don't think that this would be a great spot for an lunch interview. The last time I was there I found it IMPOSSIBLE to hear my lunch companion. You don't want to have to be yelling to each other during an interview.
I do not have any other suggestions then those already offered up. My vote would probably be for the Gallery Grill.

Thanks Terrycar! We like this place but don't go very often. This gives us incentive to go. Really want to support the little local guys in the area.
Blini Czar - Bay and Wellesley
I walked by yesterday after work and noticed that it was closed. No signs were up to indicate that it had been shut down. Then received the email from Team Buy today also.
I don't think it lasted much more then a month. I am really not that surprised. I had actually been thinking that I should use up my voucher before the place closes, however looks like I was too slow. Glad that Team Buy seems to be making good of a bad situation.
West End - Ethnic Food
The whole family is coming up from Niagara on Saturday. I am looking for an ethnic restaurant that would be "different" for them.
They eat thai food all the time and my mother doesn't like Indian food. They can get "typical" chinese food, but if someone had a suggestion for something that was "different" from a chinese restaurant, that would be appreciated.
Nothing expensive, an ethnic family type restaurant would be great. Probably doesn't make a difference but there will be 2 toddlers with us.
Located in the west end would be preferable. We are in Etobicoke and don't mind a 20 min drive, but don't want to be going downtown.
Anyone have any suggestions? Have I missed any vital peices of information.
Is the Red and White falafel place near Yonge & Wellesley still in existence?
No Red & White has been gone for ages. A new place went in their old location. I never tried it by my colleagues said that it didn't even compare to Red & White. I am still mourning Red & Whites departure although I will admit that near the end it just wasn't as good.

I went there the first week they opened (about a month ago now I believe). I enjoyed the meal and found it to be a nice fresh tasting option for lunch. I had the grilled chicken blini and my friend had the lamb blini.
Friend ended up getting dessert and said that it wasn't worth it. It tasted good but seemed too expensive for what you got.
Also, when we went (hopefully they have changed this) the pop was the Kirkland brand. If you are going to charge me $1.50 for a can of pop, you can at least give me a real can of coke or pepsi.
Thanks for letting me know about team buy that is a good deal.

An option for something a little different and right close to where you are is the Niagara College Culinary dinning room. www.niagaracollege.ca/dining/
Dinner before a show at Massey Hall
FYI for the Queen & Beaver it wouldn't hurt to make a reservation.
Never thought of it (because it is a pub) but went on Friday and were told that we could have a table but would have to be out by 7. It was only 5:30 but our friends weren't joining until 6, so we decided to sit in the bar areas upstairs. By 6 o'clock the bar area was packed as well.
Note: not complaining just want people to be aware that you need reservations.

Anyone eaten at Dancap Catering Resto. at Jersey Boys' theatre?
We just went to JB and with our tickets Dancap sent a 'membership card'. Turns out the membership card gets you a bunch of discounts at the local restaurants. We went to Milestones because it was a 20% discount. Here is the link to all the restuarants you get a discount at (assuming you received a membership card)
