Excellent pastrami and/or corned beef sandwich in OC?
It's far from authentic, but with a little direction, you can get a decent spread with quality meats from the Irvine store.. We usually order a pound of the turkey, corned beef, a half loaf of rye, good potato salad,a couple of their dills, and a tub of their brown mustard. We take it all home and make our own. Can't k'vetch.
Excellent pastrami and/or corned beef sandwich in OC?
I really like the Irvine Tommy Pastrami. The turkey is excellent and my wife ,whom has lived in LA for years and is somewhat of a deli afficionado, loves the corned beef. The turkey, which is what I usually eat at delis,is the best I have found in OC and better then many I have tried in LA.
Orange county Mexican - what's best?
Actually have come to enjoy Taco Rosa for what they do well.....excellent salsas, good guacomole and some regional specialties. Can't say the same for Javiers.
Orange county Mexican - what's best?
Javiers is dreadful. The food is expesive, mediocre and with little flavor. The guacomole we had last week had the texture and taste of mayonaise, and even dumping in the entire plate of watery salsa couldn't save it.I can't believe Javiers is even included in this discussion of Orange County's best.
LATKES IN Orange County
With Chanukah coming soon, where can I found good, not frozen or store bought, latkes/potato pancakes in Orange County?(for a Chanukah party)
Middle Eastern Kabob Caterer
Can anyone reccomend a good caterer who can grill kebabs and bring other middle eastern dishes to my 4 year old twins birthday at a park in Irvine.Nothing fancy, but good flavors and plenty of food
MATAHARI CAFE-NEWPORT
Anyone heard anything about,or have eaten at the Matahari Cafe in Newport Beach. It describes itself as Mediterranean cuisine from the south of France.I'm always on the lookout for good med food in OC,but I can't seem to find out anything about this place, other then what's on it's Facebook site...it appears to be in Abe's old location.
Lunch places in business park hell of Irvine
Try the signature cafe in Irvine on Michaelson and Von Karman...its next door to the food court in the strip mall on the corner. The owner is a wonderful Ethiopian woman who will prepare ethiopian food for you with some notice. Her other lunch items are well prepared and quite flavorful and delicious.Try her meditteranean salad with spicy chicken...my favorite
Where to Dine before Concert at S.M.Civic
Coming up from OC for an 8:00 benefit concert at the Santa Monica Civic.Any suggestions for pre concert restaurants in the vicinity....would prefer excellent Italian or Cal-ital/French.Thanks for the ideas

OC MEXICAN IDEAS?
interesting idea...do you know about when the truck is out on Trabuco,as that is close to where I live
OC MEXICAN IDEAS?
How well I know.Of course, only the party is taking place in Irvine and I'm open to a decent restaurant anywhere in Orange County, something along the quality level of Taco Adobe(wasnt impressed by their catering as they have not had any follow through,so we gave up with them)..Taco Mesa is very pricey for what they were offering,so I am still looking...
OC MEXICAN IDEAS?
Any thoughts or ideas on a casual mexican restaurant that would cater our twins 2nd bday in Irvine for about 40 people..We are looking for a place that can do good tacos, and some other easy mexican food.It would be a huge plus if they could cook or prepare at the party,as it would be a nice experience for all the kids to enjoy. We did the same thing last year with Rasta Taco and had a bad experience. We are trying to stay in a budget of about 10-14 dollars per person,so the high end places like Gabbis,Taleo, and Taco Rosa are out. Thanks .
TACO CATERING CART IN OC
We are looking for a taco caterer/restaurant that can cook tacos on site(a park) to cater our kids bday party in OC.Last year we used Rasta Taco, who brought a grill and cooked the tacos at the party.Unfortunately,we had less then a stellar experience with them, and would like to find another restaurant or caterer/taco cart that can grill the meat and prepare the tacos for the kids(the adults as well).Any ideas for the OC area? I know there have been a number of threads for LA taco cart caterers, but we would prefer to find one in OC.....if not, what is the best and most reliable in LA?
REVIEW: Phoenix, Irvine
Just to clarify...checked out the posted menu at Royal Kitchen and it is Chinese food, with the standard mix of Mandarin/Cantonese etc
Best Turkey Burger in OC
All this talk of the best burgers in town have me salivating for a good turkey burger with grilled onions....havent found anything stellar in OC but I know it's out there. So far,the Counter in Irvine has proved to be just average, without a nice grill feel or flavor, but perhaps the best so far.Knowlwoods, FatBurger and Island's turkey burgers are just passable...a cut above fast food.Anyone have any better thoughts?
Wood Fired Pizza in OC
probably not....but I thought the pizza at Nello Cucina at the Crystal Court was excellent, and was similar in taste and texture to a Neopolitan style...crust was very thin and the cheese to tomato ratio was just right...my wife compared it to the style at the now defunct Alto Palato in LA. I wasnt paying attention to see if it was a wood fired oven,as we were monitoring the 2 yyear old twin boys, but it very well could have been

Birthday Cake in Orange County
Was not impressed with the cakes at Cinderella or the decorating at Susie Cakes...we did get our twins first birthday cake at Creative Cakery in Orange right off the circle..they did a great job decorating, and I thought the cake was slightly above average for a large cake that fed about 40 people
Quirky, unique, or fun in O.C.?
Make sure you call first.I saw on the news that during the last spell of wild rain, they sustained serious water damage...not sure if they are open
New York or Hatfield's Style Cheesecake for Birthday in Newport?
have you tried savior faire in Laguna Niguel...how about Susie Cakes or Blackmarket Bakery..not sure they do CCs,but worth the call
Mothers Day in OC with "toddlers" in tow
Looking for a place with decent food (no fast food,Chuckie Cheese etc) where I can take my wife ,mother in law and ny twin 18 month old boys.I am trying to find a place where the rather rambunctious kids can roam and remain distracted while the adults attempt to enjoy the meal.My only idea so far is Beach Pit BBQ in Costa Mesa, which has an outdoor enclosed play area adjacent to the tables.Any other ideas similar to this would be appreciated,or we will end up w/ BBQ for mothers day.
PB Cupcakes In Orange County
The price at Dolcissimo is the same as Sprinkles,ie $3 a pop.Although Dolcissimo looks promising, they have not yet surpassed Sprinkles in moistness and flavor.Try 5 Sweets bakery in Costa Mesa off 17th.The owner is very nice and might be able to make your desired flavor .Her cupcakes were a mere $2.25 per item.
I need to fix my La Pavoni espresso machine!!
Go to Pasquini Espresso Maker on Olympic downtown..they have a great repair shop
Sgt Pepperoni's in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa
horrible...on par with Shakeys or the equally abysmal lamp post pizza or northwood pizza...simply not worth the calories.....you're not far from Al's Pizza in Costa Mesa.Go there instead
YAKITORI IN O.C.
My buddy is coming in from Las Vegas this weekend where he claims there is a lack of yakitori spots.Where shall I take him for yakitori style food in OC that will satisfy this LV foodie. We have previously tryed Honda Ya which he enjoyed...any other suggestions, preferably in Cental OC?

Tustin - Haveli Lunch Buffet, not my fave
Had a much different experience about 2 months ago...sauces were well textured and deeply spiced...I would also recommend trying the non-buffet dinner items whch have generally been very good.
Authentic NY- or Italy-style pizza in central OC?
Pizza Bakery will only dissapoint...this is mediocre pizza w/ a cardboard tasting crust and heavily sauced pies...stick w/ Al's in the area of Newport Beach
