Try Calli Cafe. I have been to Milagro 3 or 4 times (was there for New Year's, lots of fun), but agree it can be expensive. Calli Cafe is more reasonable, with high quality food prepared by one of the owners, a Mexican woman. Service is great, warm and friendly. The space is decorated nicely, very upmarket. Dinner for two with apps, drinks, tax, tip and desert came to about $85.

It is in Toronto's west end, at 4906 Dundas St West, main intersection is Dundas and Islington (but if you are travelling north on Islington, you can't turn left on Dundas - there is a turn shortly after Islington and Bloor that will get you there).

I used to work in New Jersey (best pizza is NY & NJ, in my opinion), and we had some colleagues from NJ in town - their verdict? "Not bad", which is high praise coming from guys from Jersey.

West Studio Cuisine has a great Saturday brunch, very reasonably priced, also good take out.

Mama Martino's is my Friday night place.

The Cheese Boutique at 45 Ripley is fabulous for wonderful meat, cheese, produce etc.

I went to Mango Rain in Clarkson Village in Mississauga. A bit of a trek, but OH. MY. GOD. So happy with their Thai and Indian food and it is a straight shot on Lakeshore Boulevard West to Lakeshore Road.
