New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market

Is it me or the roast chicken outdoor stand really really disapointing?

On a positive site, the permanent fruit/vegetable store had some good looking sandwiches when I walked by later.

Finally, are any of the Fromageries offerings any lunch offerings? It doesn't seem so.

Dim sum in Brossard? - Quick?

Thank you all for your answers. We ended at neither of the places as my young son could not bear the lineups. They both smelled fantastic, so I will be visiting them during the week.

Dim sum in Brossard? - Quick?

Which do you recommend?

Kam Fung
Jing Hua
Foo Wor
Other?

Korean - 2012 update?

I don't think so, but I usually go either at lunch or takeout.

Korean - 2012 update?

I've mostly had their excellent sushi, but Misoya in Lasalle is a very good family run place.

Montreal Ice Cream Highlights - 2012

You can now find Coaticook Maple Sugar Ice Cream in Montreal supermarkets. It used to be only available at their factory and it is fantastic!

Artisanal Bacon in Montreal

I just got some bacon from Porcmeilleur at the JT market. Haven't tried it yet, but I remember it to be good and the rest of their stuff is top notch so I'm confident.

Rippled Salt & Vinegar Chips?

Lol, I'm not that desparate!

Rippled Salt & Vinegar Chips?

I know its far from high brow, but does anyone make ripple Salt & Vinegar chips anymore? I used to find Ruffles, but they seem to have discontinued the "flavor".

I rather like the thickness of the chips vs the vinegar taste.

Late supper around PDA

Thanks for your responses, ended up just drinking at benelux with finger food at benelux (great beer, average food) the clubbing on the plateau and finally late late night smoke meat at Main. Very good, but no schwartz. However the easy seating was definitely appreciated!

Finally lunch at T! Was great. The coquille St-Jacques and fennel salmon a as depicious as advertised. They even managed to make me like the brussel sprouts that my gf ordered. The sign of a great place!

Chinese garlic.

IGA usually has organic garlic from california or mexico and mine has added a Quebec product lately, but not always in stock.

I agree with snackhappy, chinese garlic is often weak

Late supper around PDA

Any good deals around La Place des Arts after 10pm?

Looking for either a late night special, or a place wih ambiance+ good food. Not averse to going to chinatown either if there is something special open late.

Quartier Dix-30: Which restaurant would you choose?

Map of Great CHICKEN joints in Montreal

Its not a "chicken joint" but the Chicken Shawarma at Chez Benny express is absolutely divine. The grilled meat cooked on a rotating spit with spices and the secret ingredient: Lamb fat on top that drips into the chicken.

It may cost twice as much as your typical pita, but you get twice as much meat and the condiments are homemade as well as delicious top notch. Completely different from your typical lebanese place.

Please do note that they are Kosher and therefore closed for jewish holidays. I'm knocked my head on the door a few times!

P.S. I don't know how related it is to Chez Benny and I haven't (yet) been to the "Original" Chez Benny to compare

Saul (Briskets) Ettinger's stepson to open Ettinger's Deli

Y'all are right, my post was a little confusing.

A- Smoke meat is first smoked slowly then steamed a few hours before cooking. Mine was oversteamed a little. I had the plate, but if I had had the sandwich, I probably would not have noticed.

B- Nitrites, nitrates, don't hold me up to semantics, I'm just a hound. :) The smoke meat did not have the nasty taste nor chewiness of mass produced junk that is even sold in restaurant that claim to specialize in the meat of gods (I'm looking at you Jarry Smoke Meat).

C- The fries were actually quite good, they just stood in the heater for too long for the waitstaff

Conclusion: good product, poor execution. Really hope they fix it.

Saul (Briskets) Ettinger's stepson to open Ettinger's Deli

I went there this weekend and its definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area.

The smoke meat is made on premises the right way without sodium nitrates, fresh fries, homemade coleslaw. A very welcome addition!!!

It may not be up to the level of Schwatz's or even Pete's, but its good. The other thing holding it back was the service, slow and aloof, the fries were a little lukewarm and the smoke meat too reheated. (But hey, bad service seems to be a staple at most smoke meat places)

If they can make adjustments, maybe they can overcome the awful location of the restaurant. You kinda have to know where it is, its tough to just just drive by it . Its still a lot more easy to get to than Pete's and parking is 100 times easier than downtown.

Overall, a good addition!

Candied Lemon and Saffron in Lasalle

I need candied lemon and saffron for a maroccan recipe. Do y'all know a good place to get them in Lasalle?

Anyone know where I can get Banana Leaves to make tamales?

I get them from asian grocers like Hawai

Anything worth eating in Lasalle, Lachine or Dorval?

I've seen that place and it looked run down so I never went. I will have to make the trek now.

Anything worth eating in Lasalle, Lachine or Dorval?

I've found Shangrila really hit and miss sometimes, I wish they would streamline some menu items and use less frozen vegetables. Do less, do better.

Their pizza btw is really fanstastic.

Anything worth eating in Lasalle, Lachine or Dorval?

Haven't eaten around the area in a while, do you have anything to suggest for a nice supper?

Anything goes, but if there is a good Indian place that opened, I'd be thrilled!

Lunch in St-Henri / Centre Sud / Griffintown

What places do you suggest for our casual lunches? I work close by on IDS and looking for the most houndish places. I've already tried and liked:

Atwater Market (Satay, 1ere, Pain, Walter) (anything else in there?)
Mak Mak (great Thai)
Quebec Smoke meat (very good even if they nuke the meat for service)

Best and Worst Grocery Store Finds...

All Coaticook is pretty fantastic IMO, never disapointed.

Best and Worst Grocery Store Finds...

In those conditions, even Coors would be drinkable. I'd even eat veggie burgers.

Best and Worst Grocery Store Finds...

That sure is hot! Too much for me. Good to taste, but I don't envision myself eating a portion's worth.
On the other hand I fell in love with the Sage Cheddar. Better than the english stuff I get from Atwater IMO

Takeout Lunch in Verdun?

A ha! Where is Cuisine Xiang? Is Wang Xia any good?

Takeout Lunch in Verdun?

Xiang was closed for vacation, so I am enjoying dumblings from Lotus Bleu on Vendun avenue. Quite nice!

Takeout Lunch in Verdun?

Where to you suggest I go to pick up good chow quickly and inexpensively for lunch on Wellington in Verdun?

I have errands to run and little time, so it will have to be takeout to bring back to my office.

Ty in advance

Lunch alone in Chinatown?

Lunching alone in chinatown, what are the good spots these days?

3 day visit to NYC need specific recommendations please

Weather played tricks on us... It was sunny, moderately hot.... Perfect for 3 days in fact! I never saw so many new-yorkers so generally happy and welcoming before (don't take this as a diss, but new-yorkers were in a really really positive mood)

Back to food.... The nice weather had us wandering around a lot and we ate when we were starving.... Here are a few outttakes:

Cognac on broadway: REALLY good charcuterie plate (I come from a french city and lived in france for a year); great value. The rest, overpriced but still good.

Pongsri (before catching Macio (Hilarious) Marina Franklin (funny) Rich Francese (soso) at Gotham: Hit & Miss: too large menu we probably chose the wrong things as what we saw on other tables looked fantastic! (Our papaya salad was spot on although I would order it extra hot (the Missus said it was perfect))

Woo Lae Oak: Very VERY good Korean Grill (we had the shortribs & lamb) although probably not worth the value in the "absolute" as I've been to Osaka and Vancouver. Never had lamb there though... Very astute choice of microbrews from asia, america and europe on tap. Great evening. We ended the evening at a fun dive at (I think) the corner of Hester & Baxter, but the delirium tremens (the beer taken at Woo not the actual intoxication state) was starting to take effect...

Thank you NYC for a great birthday weekend!
