Tacos El Gallo Truck in the Excelsior District (San Francisco)

You rock, Melanie.... Thank you.....

Thank you janniecooks..... Very well said. I know I can't compare is site to a true democracy.... However, most things that are built or created by humans who have a commonality succeed because civil debate is not only allowed but encouraged. How can a group ever thrive and flourish, if it is not able to use civil discourse and debate to determine its destiny? When individual thought is confined to only one avenue, growth will not happen; indeed the entity will wither and die. So whether this site and those running it survives and thrives will be dependent upon how much trust is given to its contributors. Perhaps the days of an unrestricted food forum are over, and the new owners have a singular vision of a site in which we all agree we love vanilla. How incredibly sad that picture is. Anyone with any passion in them will no longer be satisfied with this type of model.

It's not so much that we resent the rules, than it is that we resent the rules being changed in the middle of the game....

I mean, since when have there been rules about how much punctuation you can and cannot use??? It's ludicrous! And they never really had a problem with profanity use, as long as it wasn't directed toward someone as a verb as to what they could do to themselves.... So why now???

And even more troubling, why all the secrecy??? Why can't we know who all the moderators are, who actually work for the site and who are volunteers??? Sure they have little symbols next to their site names when they post, but do we really know how many there are and who among us 'regular posters' may actually be working for the site and reporting us anonymously???? Why lock down threads that seem to be critical of the site and its moderation??? It definitely does reek of Big Brother....

And the other thing that I really resent is being treated like a child. Being told how to say and write things just does not sit well with me. Like at all. And clearly, I'm not the only one feeling this way......

Ah, now I get it! And I had the same wonderings as Mr. Left when I saw that logo left up, a bit too long IMO..... Do they think users are so clueless as to not know how to use the search function and type in leftovers?????

Big Mista's BBQ Long Beach Open!

Have not been, as I rarely find myself in that area..... But do have to point out he's saddened a lot of BBQ fans that used to line up for his cue at the Century City FM on Thursdays.....namely my husband..... And sadly, I never got to try it......

Yes that's correct. And those suggestions were met with great hostility, further cementing my impression of the clique that the thread posters had formed, and the resistance to any change to that thread.

Though it does seem that now the thread limits the number of posts before it rolls over, don't for a minute assume that I am alone in finding that thread to be unwelcoming.... I know quite a few other posters who now refuse to participate on it, some even going as far as giving up the site altogether, due to the chatty nature and the hostility shown to them personally as well.

Address our concerns, please

And now that thread has disappeared into data heaven..... Mmm hmmm, curiouser and curiouser.....

I'm going to The Apple Pan tonight.

Bingo.

Thank you!!!!!!! Thank you so much for being so eloquent in areas where I fail!!!!! I could not be making this point stick without the help of fellow CHers like you!!!!

Address our concerns, please

Okay, I'll take your point and then say it absolutely applies to every board on this site, not just one region. All hell broke loose when the suggestion was made to reign in some of the "chatty" comments on the What's for Dinner threads on the home cooking board....talk about cliques! To this day, it is mainly comprised of a handful of the same posters month in and month out....and most that try to "intrude" on their little party, or especially the ones who complained of the clique nature of the whole thread were laughed at and cast aside!! Now you want to complain about cliques?!? Really??!!?? That's rich, thanks for the support anyway.

I could not agree more, westsidegal. Thank you so much for contributing to this post. I sincerely appreciate it and your contribution to this and our LA Board......

I'm going to The Apple Pan tonight.

Yes.... I couldn't get Norm's to pick up the phone to tell me how much their cheeseburger was... But remember, their burgers come with fries unlike the apple pan....you don't pay separate for fries and tax on top of them....just sayin.

No, perhaps no one can touch the ap's price...but most places in the immediate area do not own their property outright...makes a huge difference. Same with the SF saloon, their burgers come with fries and are much more meat than ap's.

Thank you ElsieDee, for your contribution to this thread, I appreciate you sharing your frustrations as well.

Marssy, I understand you are new and probably need to tow the company line, so to speak, and have gotten the unenviable job of addressing complaining customers like me. It's not easy and I applaud your efforts at trying to keep things friendly.

I suppose I don't know all the details of the post I referenced below, as I don't stay up all night monitoring a thread to see if it becomes abusive, threatening, etc. As I went to bed Wednesday evening, it certainly did not qualify as any of the above. But it doesn't really fix the problem of disgruntled customers by just saying, we can't talk about it because its private. So some reference as to why threads are being locked down, posters are being singled out, others aren't being recognized for incredibly helpful contributions as referenced by ElsieDee above, would go a bit toward repairing relations. I can understand if this is above your pay grade, so to speak, and that's fine. But the owners of this site should know, it's a shell of its former existence.

BBQ Brisket Alert

Nail on the head. I have never found any prepared food at any of the three WF locations I've tried, to have any flavor. Seriously. I don't bother to pay their inflated prices. But I'm glad ory found something he/she liked.....

WHERE'S the free parking wiener???

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I take issue with your first point : I’d like to clarify that posts do not get deleted just because we get criticized. We value the feedback the community provides to us and we do take your comments into consideration. We encourage collaboration and exchange of ideas. It is ok to be upset and express it to us but what it is not ok is to call with offensive names or abuse the staff or any other member of this community or the organization.

The thread titled BIG BROTHER on the LA board raised similar questions like mine, did not denigrate into name calling or abusive discussion toward anyone, and yet still disappeared into the night without a trace... Why?

I'm going to The Apple Pan tonight.

I think she means burger....

My response to that would be SanFrancisco Saloon.....Busby's sport bar....Norm's.....

Broad Request

Never mind.

Exactly, masha..... It certainly gives one pause, doesn't it?

Fucking tell me about it......

Small Christmas dinner help and suggestions

Why are you discouraging the OP from cooking what he/she believes will make the company happy?

Address our concerns, please

The new management seems to dismiss any CHer's concerns with excessive moderation..... No answers just deletions of posts. LA hounds are fed up as many LONG time posters are now just refusing to post as they get criticized or just plain deleted for asking questions, using too much punctuation ( yes you read that right), one hound was asked to basically change the way he speaks/writes to not use ANY curse words, as if these boards are filled with children.... In fact they are treating us like children, ruling with an iron fist, no explanations, and if you complain, your post is summarily axed. I will be shocked, at this pointl if this thread is not deleted within e next ten minutes or so, again, withou any explanation. If you ever had any doubt that CBS is a fascist news organization, here's your proof.

Address our concerns, please

Exactly. Incredibly rude and unprofessional.

I'm going to The Apple Pan tonight.

Another dingy overpriced place that I wouldn't spent any money at..... These places are all fine for those who have some nostalgia attached to them. For those of us who don't, there are many more places that deserve the attention IMO.....

Address our concerns, please

Why are you just blanket deleting posts from unhappy customers????? Nothing says 'we couldn't care less' like ignoring your customer complaints and sweeping their concerns under the rug...... It used to be a fun and informative forum for us to share our love of all things food, and now you're making it unbearably uninteresting and unfriendly. And an actual response to this, as opposed to just ignoring and deleting, would be appreciated. I'm copying this to all of my fellow hounds who deserve an explanation. Thank you In advance for addressing my concerns.

New Year's Eve Santa Monica with kids?

What do you consider "expensive"??
You may want to talk to the hotel's concierge at your hotel for ideas....most restaurants will be "festive" but will most likely have Prix fixe menus and prices.....

Small Christmas dinner help and suggestions

One of her guests can't eat chicken......

Is there a single good Thai place in Santa Monica or Venice?

I'm still trying to get over to them, even thou I'm in Northridge quite often now....what do you like there bula?

Next up Christmas, Hanukah, Festivus, etc.

Not for us, but I made one for one son's birthday this year, so we probably won't be serving one, unless I see one at a price I can't refuse....
