Oh that's too bad. I'm going to look for them here at my farmers market tomorrow after Mass. You're in LA, right? Which farmers markets are close to you? I'm on the Westside.

Where do you find a Popeye's? I didn't think there were any near me. One of my sons is really into fried chicken. Thanks.

Leg of lamb for Easter Sunday

Are these bone in or boneless? If it's boneless, you don't need to make both, freeze the other one, especially if you're making the sausage as well.

If it's bone in, then the bone will account for some of the weight. Go ahead and cook both, but slice it all and be prepared to freeze some.

Make some fresh pita bread & tzatiki the next day and have some delicious lamb sandwiches for lunch/dinner.

Can I coat leg of lamb and refrigerate 24 hrs ahead of cooking?

Yes, that would work just fine.

How about ramps? Are you able to find those?

Leeks in vinaigrette with a chopped egg garnish are also very springy, and could serve as a tart counterpoint to the soufflé and greens.

What are you making this weekend?

Oh I love quiches. I should make them more often. One of my boys does not enjoy eggs anymore, I'm not sure why. Bums me out since they are such a great source of protein and he's so thin. He'd rather eat waffles and pancakes at breakfast, at least he doesn't slather them in syrup like my older guy. If I have any leftover eggs after dying and the carbonara, maybe I will make a quiche Lorraine. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh I feel for you, I hate that feeling! I get very indecisive also at times, and need something to boost my motivation. Sometimes, this site will. Sometimes not though. And perusing through old Gourmets and Bon Appetits will do it. I love cooking magazines, and kept a bunch, even though practically all the recipes are available online. I just enjoy reading through the pages, I guess.

Pumpkin ravioli sounds lovely. You are in AUS, right? So you seasons are opposite of ours. We are just starting spring here. Fall is a nice time for ravioli. Well, maybe your garden will help inspire you! That and your new toy!

My Quest to Find LA's Most Expensive Banh Mi

NOOOOOO!! Haven't been in a while, as my hairdresser was in Marina del Rey and I used to treat myself after my appointment to the one in the plaza there. But since she got out of the business I get my hair done elsewhere, and now I'm just going to have to rectify that very soon! All I have to do is mention it to my husband.....

Suggestions for day in LA with 3 year old

True enough, but no mention of time of day, and they could be sitting in a LOT of traffic if it's anywhere near rush hour, or on a Friday night. Not a good impression of our fair city ;)

And who only spends a morning at D-land?? It doesn't open before 8 or 9 am. And to get your $85 worth, most people stay til mid afternoon. So hello, rush hour.....

Plus, Spago is no place for a three year old....seriously.

Or can you get fresh peas yet? That might work. You can do a crostini with a pea purée & feta. Or fava beans, those work nicely with salty cheese also.

Oh yea, steamed in the microwave for ten minutes then quarter and grill or broil, basting with oil so they don't dry out.... Ad serve with drawn butter, lemon slices, and we just did these a few weeks ago and I also made a roasted garlic aioli....YUM!

Cooking first time for girlfriend. Help!

How about turkey burgers? They are a lot leaner, and would work for you. If you get ground breast, be sure to add some moistening ingredients to it. I like to add honey mustard as I like to flavor my turkey burgers as I really don't want them to taste like turkey. Other times, I have flavored them with sun dried tomatoes and Italian vinaigrette, or use bottle dressing if that's easier. They need a lot of oil so they don't dry out and they won't stick to your grill.

Other things you could grill would be shrimp to add to a spaghetti with a lemon garlic butter sauce, like scampi. My family loves that meal. And then complete it with a salad and bread and you're done. You could do kebabs with the shrimp, or scallops for that matter. Clams are easy to do on the grill also, in a aluminum pan with chopped shallots and white wine or beer. Any grilled fish is yummy too. We do a lot of swordfish on the grill. I marinate it first in a sheet pan with lots of olive oil, then dried oregano, lemon peel and dried garlic. Salt and pepper before grilling. Then grill on medium low, so as not to over cook. I think my husband does about five to seven minutes a side. You can serve with couscous (boxed and so simple) or some pasta. Even mashed potatoes.... And again a salad and you're done.

How sweet of you to cook for your girlfriend....trust me women ADORE men who will cook for them.... At least I do! Good luck!

LAMB - Domestic vs imported

I guess I don't eat enough if it to have a true opinion....we eat roast leg or lamb chops a few times a year... But fwiw, I worked for a caterer here in Beverly Hills, and she only bought Colorado lamb. Very tender, almost sweet and she got raves whenever we did a dinner with the lamb.

Large vs. XL Eggs in recipe...

For biscotti? Nah..... I use extra large eggs now exclusively...they are cheaper than large, and I have two growing sons to feed, so every little bit helps.
