L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2014 -- Voting

Ok, well I appreciate the thoughtful response. I was just wondering what had happened as I'm out of town and not checking in as often as I do when I'm home and didn't know if perhaps some discussion occurred and was taken down. Anyhow, are the nominations standing as currently listed?

AOC tomorrow night (and Coni's last weekend)

The little gems salad with cara cara oranges was very good, if they are still offering it at AOC. We also really liked the vintners lunch. The bacon wrapped dates are good, but not really as revelatory as I had hoped, and the portion is quite tiny.

Our fish was overcooked, that was a special from that oven.... Perhaps later in the night the fire is better controlled.

L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2014 -- Nominations

Just a question, I realize cocktails and Pasadena may not 'excite' you, but seeing how these are the only two that garnered any excitement from the participating crowd, should that really matter? I mean, was the condition of you taking on the managing of this thread dependent upon your participation and/or excitement of what was nominated and won the majority vote?

Also, noticed how burgers was the only other nom that received more than one vote. Yet what was chosen as the nominations, main,y French fries and delis, did not receive anymore than an one vote and were latecomers at that. How is this all decided? Thanks.

So, how does this nomination process work again? Just curious as French fries and delis only had one late vote each, but there were other earlier nominations that had just one as well....and I believe burgers had two votes.

Does it just depend on the whim of the OP who is managing the threads or what is the process by which final noms make the voting process? Does it seem a bit arbitrary to anyone other than me?

Chick-fil-A to Pasadena

Seems like a good fit to me.... Decent food at fast food prices that students could afford. I actually like their chicken sandwich, better than most fast food versions.

L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2014 -- Nominations

Well, an Arnold Palmer is just a concoction of 50/50 lemonade & iced tea, and it does not appear to be "trying" to be a cocktail, the way a Shirley temple and Roy Rogers do....garnish and all. But hey, whatever, if y'all want to include it under cocktails, that's fine by me......

Bedford & Burns - Business Lunch in Beverly Hills

We had lunch there about four months or so ago.... My husband also had the fish tacos, said they were fine. He tends to favor bold flavors, so I took it that they were spiced well enough to his liking. It was a very good sized portion for lunch. I had the sashimi salad which was excellent and also a generous portion. I'd like to try their sandwiches next time. My FIL had the shrimp Louie salad and it was quite large and again, generous with the shrimp.

L.A. Co-Dishes of the Month, July 2014: FRIED CHICKEN (and Chicken Fried) and FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS

Okay, here it is:

CRISPY PARMESAN CHICKEN
Serves 6

6 boneless skinless chicken breasts or cutlets
2 Tbsp melted butter or Dijon mustard
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs or panko
1 tsp each dried oregano & parsley leaves
1/4 tsp each paprika, salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray baking dish with Pam.

If using thick breasts, pound with a meat mallet between two sheets of plastic wrap to tenderize and even out the thickness to about 1/4 inch.

In a shallow dish, mix together cheese, breadcrumbs and seasonings. Dip chicken in melted butter. Or if using the mustard, smear each side of the chicken breast with mustard. Coat well with the breadcrumb mixture. Place chicken in baking dish and let coating set in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.

Bake about 20-25 minutes.

If you want them to be spicy, substitute 1/8 to 1/4 tsp cayenne for black pepper.
