Wedding cake recommendations

Hi, can anyone recommend a great, yummy wedding cake designer in Vancouver who can do a more simpler, light touch cake execution? Here's an example of the cake:
http://ruffledblog.com/ruffled_galler...

When I see portfolios of cake houses, they seem to do more full on tiered older designs. Or, maybe this type of cake is pretty straightforward and anyone can do this.

Ideas? Gluten free would be is something we're also considering if it's alla Georgetown cupcake gluten free quality.

Thank you!!!

Great! Thanks. I'll look into these! And sorry for confusion, I meant comparable in terms of contemporary vegetarian. I do eat meat but enjoy many of the new vegetarian/vegan popping up...a nice break from all the comfort food trends of past few years.

Saw this thread as I'll be in Philly for a day on business. Is there anything comparable to Vedge (fully booked)?

Thanks for that feedback. I've looked into all of the options suggested by posters here and a friend of mine weighed in heavily for Cecil Green too. It's a front runner (of the week and i'm sure it'll change) but I'm going to be in the same boat as you were as we're organizing from NYC which makes the entire process more complicated.

When I called Wescadia caterers I spoke to someone utterly blasé and rude. I'm almost ready to just spin this important event into a really nice BBQ in the park somewhere :-).

I've never been to Seasons. It sounds like it worked out perfectly! Yeah, we're finding it hard to even keep it at our target of 70. Initially we thought of having it in NYC but many of our US family/friends are rallying for Vancouver! :-)

four days in Vancouver 8/29-9/1 from NYC

I live in NYC also and just came back from Vancouver where I grew up. Excited for you as you'll see the city at it's most stunning best. I go back 2x/year and here are things I love when in town (and echo suggestions from others):

- Kirin at Cambie for stunning view and great dim sum. Went to Sun Sui Wah last week for dim sum and was surprised that this long time favorite is still consistently one of the best dim around.
- Must try sushi as it'll be great value and fresh that you can't get comparable to unless premium in NYC. I love Shiro on Cambie. Guu and Hapa for Izakaya as mentioned by others.
- Two years in a row now, we've rented bikes on Denman and Robson for a full day and you can get around Stanley Park, English Bay, Yaletown, Olympic Village, False Creek, Granville Island for both scenic and food stops. The ride is flat and a highlight of our trip.
- La Taqueria - was a fun stop yummy taco stop if you're around Gastown. Worth it.
- We stopped at Granville Island hotel for drinks; it's a beautiful outdoor spot
- I'm not used to west coast pizza anymore so if you are a choosey italian/pizza lover i'd skip pizza
- I saw long lines at Kintaro Ramen on Denman but unfortunately didn't make it in

Vancouver is a foodie town, you won't be disappointed!

Good suggestion and friends have definitely mentioned Grouse Mtn. I was at a cocktail reception during winter months years back and felt crammed in. But weather is everything isn't it and turns the city into an unbeatable paradise. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'm from Vancouver originally but fiancé and I both live in NYC. We had a few short days in YVR and checked out some wedding venues on the recommendation of friends.

Can be either afternoon or eve wedding in Aug 2012 for maybe 70-80 people. Ceremony + reception. Front-runners are Hycroft Manor, Tea House and Hart House.

Obviously budget is a concern but we want to make sure if we're spending that the food is good, beautiful view for out-of-towners and if possible easy to plan. My family and friends are big foodies so don't want to fall short on this part. Looking at the menus of some of above, they seemed basic. We loved setting of Tea House but menu looked meh but I didn't get a chance to taste to really know.

Questions:
- Does anyone have experience w/weddings at above shortlist?
- Does catering provide better food? Is there a caterer you'd recommend?
- Other places I should consider? Does not have to be in Vancouver if food/venue options outside of city are great. Brock house too big, Van Dusen/Museum Antropology, pushing our budget too far.

Any advice and input would be so helpful! Thanks.

Need fancy romantic restaurant recommendation

Hi,

We'd like to get a friend a nice gift certificate at a fancy, romantic/modern restaurant for their wedding gift. Ideas?

I.E. we're from NYC so comparable to a Eleven Madison Park like or wherever is special dining experience in Toronto. Thanks!
