Travel to Italy with Food Allergies. Puri, Thanks for your help. I will try the Google translation. We are actually leaving on July 8th, so you will not be returning in time. Egg is one of our issues, too, so your notes about avoiding eggs is helpful. As are vinorama and others' comments. |

Travelling with food allergic 2 year old - Paris, Switzerland, Italy Hi all -- My almost 2 year old son has allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, egg, and legumes. We will be in Paris and Switzerland (mostly in Luzern, but also taking the train from Paris to Italy via Switzerland). I found some info about allergen laws/labelling/expectations regarding Italy, but am wondering how this plays out in terms of eating in restaurants --- do they really avoid cross-contamination? Do they really know all the ingredients used in any of their foods? Does anyone has experience in Paris and/or Switzerland? Are these places allergen aware? Do they list ingredients? Do restaurants know what goes in their food? Are they careful about cross-contamination? We can keep my son's diet pretty simple --- cheese, meats, fruits, and other kinds of "whole" foods -- I am hoping these would be readily available and labeled??? Thanks for any experience/advice! |

Hi -- I know your post is old, but I just ran across it as I am traveling to Europe (including Paris, Lucerne, and Italy) with my almost 2 year old who is allergic to eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, lentils, clams, beans, and beans. How did your travels go? Do you have anything to recommend to help avoid allergens? I'm particularly worried about the egg, as they are so pervasive in foods. |

Travel to Italy with Food Allergies. Hi Puri -- It's been a while since you posted this, but I found it in the archives. I am traveling to Italy next month with my almost 2 year old son, who has peanut, egg, tree nut, shellfish, and legume allergies, and I was wondering if you would be willing to share your letter you wrote in Italian? We are also traveling to Paris and Luzern, so I need to translate names of allergy food and a letter in French and German -- how did you translate your letter into Italian? Your help would be most appreciated! Thanks! |
