Home made Tomato Sauce For Pasta

you can tell who the real italians are. we call it gravey, to everyone else it's sauce. make it the way you want it's all good but my grandmother from italy, God rest her soul, always started by frying garlic in olive oil. when the garlic started to brown she would take it out and i would eat it and have garlic breath for two days. the next step was to fry tomatoe paste in the garlic infused oil for a few minits, then add your other cans of tomatoes and ingredients. she used to cook it for hours which i think was unnecessary but did not hurt it.

Momofuku Milk Bar Review

Never been there but some of the flavors sound too cute/nasty for me. What about regular soft vanilla ice scream. do they sell it. I always judge different ice scream makers on good old vanilla/vanilla bean.

just spend a little more and buy a good stone. there is nothing hard or complicated about it but you can't do it with a $2 rock.

Mom's Meatloaf

I take my last comment back. If that's the way your mom made meatloaf, then it's mom's meatloaf. I'm just pointing out that it is a little misleading using the word mom's in a recipie that is a new twist on an old recipe.
Anyway it sounds pretty good.

Mom's Meatloaf

Sounds nice but I agree with Msradell. Wheres the beef? Especially with the moniker "Moms". The only moms using turkey in a meatloaf are young enough to be my grandaughter. Looks like a nice recipe but the name has got to go.

Vinegar and Citrus Primer

this guy knows his $hit. 'white vinegar and beans". I've been putting a teaspoon of white vinegar in my bean soup since my father told me to do it around 50 years ago. Don't cook with it, just throw it in your bowl before you eat it. Trust me on this one

Basil Bugs? Gardening Question.

bermuda is correct about ladybugs. they eat about 15 aphids per day plus other harmful insects. used them for my tomatoes last year and they worked like a charm. i bought enough for my small garden {around 25 plants for around $10}. when i released them i figured they would just fly away but they stuck around all season and did the job.

Smoked whole chicken on a gas Weber...help

Weber sells a chicken poultry roaster made to cook whole chickens on the grill. Basically it's chicken cooked on a beer can . all it is is a pan with a built in cup to pour beer or wine into that you sit the chicken on. i can't tell you how simple and delicious it comes. just rub a little oil, salt pepper and whatever you like on it. pretty foolproof, moist every time. if you want a smokey taste put woodchips on the grill , like baldwinwood said.

the elusive soft-shell crab?

Unless you don't care make sure the crabs are legal. Crab season dosn't start till may 1. Chineese markets are notorious for ignoring the law. They are legal from NY but please make sure they weren't poached before you buy them.

Rusty Cast Iron

I would say yes. I was listening to Mike Calameco's food show on the radio last week and a woman called in about a very rusty cast iron pan. According to him it was not a problem. I'm not 100% sure but I believe he said to put oil in them and heat the hell out of them then just wipe them with a paper towel. I would try googling the remidy as I said I'm not certain but he definitly said it is not a problem.

Isn't it a lot easier to go to a good Italian bakery and buy a pound of dough? In my neck of the woods There are superb bakeries that sell dough by the pound. I buy it all the time and can't imagine the time and effort to make your own would be worth it.
