If I can't get fresh Hatch chiles.......? How soon do you need them? I order roasted frozen chiles and have them shipped in. |

Small jars for spices, what sizes work best? Wow, jljohn, I would love to have that spice drawer. Envious big time here :-). I buy my spices in bulk from Atlantic Spice, and have been keeping the bags in a 4-drawer rolling cart in my kitchen, but I love this idea for easy access. |

Giulios in Valdosta has excellent Italian and Greek food. My aunt used to live in Valdosta and that was always our go-to place when we went to visit. It's in a restored victorian house. I love all the italian dishes and the greek salad is wonderful. Haven't tried much of the greek entres as I am always pulled to the italian ones. |

I-85 north Atlanta to High Point, NC OK, I'll make a stab here. I know a good local Italian place in Salisbury (about halfway between Charlotte and Lexington), it's called Cartucci's and it's right downtown in the old historic area. |

Old-school breakfast in Greensboro, NC? I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to mention Danny's on New Garden for breakfast, haven't been in a while, so it could have changed, but it has always been my favorite for breakfast, even way back when they were on Wendover, before Danny retired the first time. Tenderloin and eggs with gravy, and their biscuits were heavenly, large but not crumbly. Maybe I'll head back over there this weekend after bringing this up. Live in High Point now, so don't go that way as much anymore. |

I personally wouldn't make the drive to Lexington, but if you must than Lexington BBq is the place, right off business 85. Greensboro has Country BBQ on Wendover which to me is better than Lexington, and a lot of locals swear by Stameys (across from the Coliseum) but I find it rather dry myself. I also second the suggestions for Liberty Oak and Lucky 32, a couple of my favorites. And for italian, my personal favorite is Pavillion, just off of Holden Rd. |

Thanks for the suggestions, it looks like we'll be trying Bru's room too. We have a local restaurant that makes an off menu sauce for my husband that has ghost peppers in it, but I don't mess with that one. We grew ghost peppers in our garden last year, but this year we have naga morich and butch Trinidad Scorpions as they have surpassed the Guiness record that ghost peppers set. He actually didn't eat many of those last year, I think Habanero's as really his favorite. |

Breakfast in New Orleans - Where Would You Go? I will give a 4th or 5th vote to Camelia Grill, and their yummy omelets (sausage and potato is my favorite), but also 2nd the vote for Brennan's as where else will you find Banana's Foster but where they invented it. |

Not Leaving Empty Handed (Southern Food Items Needed) I definitely second the suggestion for Camellia beans (red beans), it's on my list to bring home on the next trip, plus I always grab a couple of quarts of the Olive salad from Central Grocery for making my own muffalettas at home. And as far as seasonings, one of my favorites is Zatarains New Orleans Gone Wild, but cant seem to find it any more. |

OK, I don't live in Atlanta, but I thought Intermezzo had the absolute best selections of desserts and coffees anywhere. I have mainly had their cheesecakes, but that's because they have so many I want to try, and every one so far has been heavenly. And now the one across from Perimeter Mall has Sunday Brunch as well (or did the last time I was in town). |

Thanks, I found their menu online, must be pretty good if they've been around for almost 50 years now. |

Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich Just ran across this and had to resurrect it. I can't believe no one has mentioned the pork tenderloin at Country BBQ. It has been part of their legendary tenderloin biscuit for 25 years, (Wendover location literally has lines out the front door most mornings) and in the last couple of years they have started offering it as sandwich on a bun for the afternoon and evening customers. I don't know how they do it, but the tenderloin is so tender you can cut if with a fork, just melts in your mouth, and the breading lightly seasoned with just a hint of garlic. It was always my customary "bribe" to get my production crew to work on Saturdays, if I told them, I would treat them to breakfast from Country BBQ, they would all jump for it. 2 locations in Greensboro, one on W. Wendover across from Costco, one on 68 about a mile S of I-40. Unfortunately the original location in High Point has been closed. Several other BBQ places have tried to copy this (Henry James, Carter Bros) but no one comes close on this item. |

I'm sure this has a different definition for everyone, but are you looking for a sausage type dog? If so, my favorite (odd location but husband is a truck driver and knows how to sniff these things out) is the Sausage Dog at Huff's (convenience store) in Burlington Exit 145. Besides being a good quality sausage, their toppings are pretty good for convenience store/grill, and I love it with just mustard and a strip of their "real" cheese melted on it, not velveeta or nacho sauce, but real cheddar. Their hot dogs are pretty decent too, but the sausage dog is what makes it worth the drive for me. |

OK, got the recommendations for my inlaws fried fish, now on to my husbands favorite. What are you favorite hot wings places? My husband really likes the heat, and I'm talking about habanero hot if possible. My taste is down a notch from him, at our favorite local places in NC, he always get the hottest they make and mine is the next one down. We both prefer a more buffalo/vinegar base sauce, but are open to the more tomato based ones. Will consider a really great flavor sauce even if the heat is not quite habanero level. We are staying on A1A in Ft Lauderdale beach, but are up for a drive in either direction for something good. Hope there are some options in the area. |

Fried Seafood suggestions FLL area LaGranga, is showing up as Peruvian food, is this the one for fried seafood as well? If it is, I would like to try the Peruvian specialties myself. |

Fried Seafood suggestions FLL area Wow, thanks so much, I have never heard of this place, and it sounds like just what we are looking for (for them), we will definitely give it a try while we are there. I see they have ribs as wel (I'm not much into seafood) do you know if they are any good, or should I just stick with steak? |

Fried Seafood suggestions FLL area OK, I've done the search thing, and can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for. Maybe because it's kind of "off the wall" for this area. Coming to Fort Lauderdale in a few weeks with my inlaws. They think they love fresh seafood. However their perspective is from a lifelong NC native, who mainly gets "calabash style" fried flounder at home. We've brought them down before, and they always say, let's get some fresh fish, but when we take them to a good seafood restaurant, flounder is not on the menu or any other kind that they recognize, and neither is deep fried anything very often. Did get them to try some orange roughy one time, and they liked it. Snapper is just too strange for them (and probably too strong tasting as well). My MIL does like devilled crab and good crab cakes as well, and they occassionally eat some salt and pepper catfish. So, should I just stick to places that have a good grouper sandwich? Or is there some place that serves fried fish, mild flavored? Willing to drive up to an hour in any direction from Fort Lauderdale. I know what I am asking doesn't qualify as "good seafood" in most people's mind. TIA |
