China Pearl Quincy
Ok - so there's some back and forth on this location - If i like the Dim Sum in the Boston location, and know what I want - will I be disappointed?

Favorite Pork Chop
The chef at Prezza has in the past impressed the heck out of me with his dexterity with pork, I have had multiple different pork dishes there and been very impressed with all of them.
Also, Salt and Pepper Pork, Squid and Shrimp at Peach Farm is a great pork chop dish!
Tasca - is it common not to seat incomplete parties? [moved from Boston board]
As a former restaurant GM, I think your post tells the whole story - you had a reservation on one of the busiest nights of the week for 10 people at a prime time. The restaurant HAS to plan to turn the table at least once in order to be financially viable. So, they either need to plan on seating the table at 6 or at 10pm (assuming a 2 hr turn).
Since big parties tend to take longer, and your party was 25 minutes late, the restaurant has to utilize the tables as best they can - they have a limited number of seats, and need to keep as many of them as filled as possible as long as possible in order to maximize their revenue...so what happened was that after waiting 15 minutes to seat you, the restaurant decided to take the tables they had held open for your reservation, re-seat them, and move on to plan B once your party was complete.
Your anger is misplaced - your party was late for a reservation - Doctors, Therapists, Dentists all charge if you miss an appointment...the restaurant did its best to accomodate your party's inability to fulfill its committment - this is the reason so many places don't take reservations.
I have to wonder what your role in the industry might have been if you sat many incomplete parties during prime time...every time I made an exception to this rule I got burned badly...
Blue Ribbon Rules
Wow - Chowhound thread with 19 replies and no dissent - Gotta say, I love Blue Ribbon too, we have had them cater office events, and I agree wholeheartedly with all the love - but I am shocked that there isn't some hound that has some ax to grind...cornbread too sweet...not sweet enough...yadda yadda yadda...could this be the consensus best of boston?
Hand Cut Novy (Smoked Salmon) Anywhere?
I like that - lox-eating descent - better than MOT, or other code words my friends use...
visiting boston for a weekend. What r good places to eat? I want Places as good as Flour bakery or Border Cafe'. Will go for any type of food. I just want it to be good.
Confused here, so you want it as good as great handmade baked goods, but simultaneously as bad as crappy pseudo Tex Mex?
That being said - East Coast Grill, Peach Farm, Douzo, Canto 6 all come to mind...but none of them are as bad and cheesy as Broder...
Limited Edition Coconut M&Ms
I read with interest a post about these the other day - and cannot find them anywhere - any 'hounds see these in Greater Boston/Metrowest?
$5 wine ..delicious
Do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle of the Red as well - both are tremendously well made wines for the money -
Is there a catch to this 2001 German Riesling Auslese?!
There are tons of inexpensive, lesser known producers producing Auslese in this price range - it does not necessarily mean there's a catch!
Great Night at Peach Farm
Don't mind at all - about $25/# - and the crab was about 5 #
There were six of us eating, and I think it was about the right size for 6 people with the other dishes - we had a lot of food, but there was nothing left over...
Cape Ann area baked stuffed lobster?
Are you picking the place based on the look or the food - because believe me, the reviews are right - you will be much better off at the Village foodwise, regardless of the "look" of the Gloucester House...
Great Night at Peach Farm
Had the opportunity to dine at Peach Farm this week with some co-workers - and it was one of the best meals I have had there - totally on their A game -
We had steamed live shrimp, great as always-
Half a crispy fried duck - nice counterpoint to the seafood consumed
YangChow Style Fried rice - very light, very fresh tasting with small bay shrimp and Roast pork
Steamed Scallops Chinese Style with Garlic Noodles- One of my favorite dishes at PC - big sea scallops steamed on the half shell with garlic and garlic noodles - so tasty!
Dry Fried Salt and Pepper live Eel - Always good, they are so good with this style of preparation
Live Alaskan King Crab three ways - only the second time I have had this, legs split and baked with garlic, body stir fried with ginger and scallions, and then they make a custard in the head with eggs and pork - could be the best sea food dish this hound has ever had, and that includes Oringer, Ducasse, Guy Savoy, among others...life altering food experience!
Pea Pod Stems with Garlic - so amazingly fresh and good, tough to stop eating these!
They are so friendly there, and the food is so good, the place was slamming busy and it was Tuesday!
Neptune Oyster
Very surprising - I had a business dinner there about two weeks ago and was blown away by the quality of the raw items - as fresh as fresh gets.
Went back last Thursday before the game, and was just as pleased with the cooked items - great steamed littlenecks, fried clams, lobster roll - and certainly no more expensive than one would expect to pay in a metro environment for such things - along the lines of B&G, or Legal Park Square...
New Arrivals in Metrowest/Northwest along Route 2?
Sushi place makes it to mediocre - i heard good things as well - they were not true...unless the only sushi you've had comes from second rate grocery stores - Whole Foods does better sushi...
Dinner in Rockport
Don't know if they are open at 6, but the Greenhouse (I think that;s the name, right on Rocky Neck) has an excellent breakfast.
Restaurant Supply Store
The restaurant depot has a location in Chelsea as well - just barely North of Boston : )
Chow between Framingham and Springfield, MA
The wife and I are required to drive to Springfield tomorrow for a brief family event - anybody have a suggestion of some Chow to look forward to between here and there, or for the way back?
Thanks!
0° wine?
Although I don't know it, it sounds a lot like Cerdun de Bugey, a French wine, very fruity, light, and sparkling that I love. It may be easier to find as there are a couple of national french importers that bring it in...Kermit Lynch being one of them.
La Caja China questions
First and foremost - I am in awe - Good luck!
Secondly, I think the area that could most be improved would be some sort of a lockable drain in the bottom so that when cleaning it you could hose it out a little more easily...
that being said, I love mine! I met my wife at a pig roast and it seems we use it every excuse we get!
South End
While in the South End, great seafood is at B&G Oysters, fantastic Oysters, and a great little menu of other choices, open for lunch and dinner (last I checked) and truly unique.
Tough to tell from a map or a guide, but Chinatown is less than 25 m walk from South End (probably not a great walk for a woman alone late) and there are a ton of posts from Chowhounds on where to eat in Chinatown...but King Fun Garden does BYOB, and they are great for a small group of people - order the duck the day before...
Breakfast at Flour is a great South End stop as well...
O Ya help
Actually, you are partially right here - it is illegal for a restaurant to require servers to tip out managers, or anybody who serves the role of a manager - i.e. You can no longer require that all the servers give the "Head Waiter" a cut like you could in the old days.
Servers can be required to tip out other members of the service team, back waiters, bartenders, hosts, hostesses, and busboys - but I have never heard of a situation where the back of the house staff is tipped out...at least not in the last 20 years.
Gitlo's Review today in Globe
I'd love to know the few other places in the USA that Richard referred to...can't wait to try Gitlo's - I just moved back to the Boston area!
Nantucket Bay Scallops
If they are really beautifully fresh Nantucket Bays, try tossing them with a hint of Chili Oil and eating them raw - so good!
Also, I saute them in a touch of butter and a light sprinkle of cayenne - they really don't need anything else, and strong flavors like truffle and bacon will overwhelm the subtle nuances of the Bay scallop -
A Pacific Cafe
Is this restaurant still in business in Kauai? I was led to believe it closed, but recent posts on this board seem to indicate that it is still open -
Any insight?
