The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards in Livermore - anyone been?

El Sacramonte is really solid. Great, upscale Mexican food.

Sauced is decent BBQ but a lot of fun.

I don't understand the draw to Uncle Yu's, it's nice and they have a mediocre wine list but locals use it for date night.

If it's a lunch date, check out First Street AleHouse.

Out at the vineyards, there's a really good little bistro that has a great view at Garre vineyard & winery, worth checking out.

Cooking LOTS of baked potatoes

Thanks for the tip!

How long do you think medium-sized potatoes need to take in a regular kitchen oven? At what temp?

Cooking LOTS of baked potatoes

So, we're doing a party for my son's school and we have to cook about 100 baked potatoes. Any tips on getting them all done and having them be fairly warm on time without the use of an industrial oven?

Talk about making it hard.... :)

Cocktail bars?

New Amsterdam is a great well gin. It's cheap and beats out most other gins in taste tests.

However, I agree with you, it is soft. It's what I call a "crossover" gin. It's how you get vodka lovers to move on and start loving gin.

Love Plymouth's fruitiness.

Cocktail bars?

Sound advice! The fact they're using Death's Door is a good mark.

I think the Negroni is the perfect test of a true, cocktail-loving bartender, don't you?

Cocktail bars?

Yeah, I read that thread but not a lot of answers and those are out of the area that I want to be in.

Cocktail bars?

So, I'll be staying in Newport Beach this coming weekend and I'm looking for a place that is making some proper cocktails.

Preferably somewhere that's not just serving some sort of Appletini but doing the real thing. A real cocktail menu that's not just the sweet stuff (ie, they know what a Negroni is). Irvine or South Coast Metro or Costa Mesa is good too.

Thanks in advance!

Best gin selection in SF?

It's the French Laundry of alcohol!

Best gin selection in SF?

Sorry, I confused myself. The Royal Oak. It's on Polk.

Bring cash though, they don't take credit cards.

Best gin selection in SF?

I second Absinthe as well. They have a great gin selection as well as some excellent mixologists coming up with new drinks all the time.

Best gin selection in SF?

Bourbon and Branch has far and away the best selection. However, The Oak Tree has a decent one as well. B&B will keep you happy for years to come though.
