Sushi Express at St Mary's

I used to eat there often when I lived in Brookline (5 years ago) and it was always pretty good and on the affordable side for sushi.

Cakes for family get together ?- wheat free or dairy free

Thanks for suggestions! Turns out the wheat free person isn't coming and I'm leaning towards just getting a bunch of cupcakes from kickass (they're just OK but they do have vegan, and some guests are big fans)

Cakes for family get together ?- wheat free or dairy free

Looks like she's got some wild stuff. Sadly I was looking for something more local (hopefully within walking/short red line T ride distance)

Cakes for family get together ?- wheat free or dairy free

Not super strict. Same bakery OK and non-wheat glutens OK too, I link. Thanks for asking :)

Cakes for family get together ?- wheat free or dairy free

Can anyone give me a good idea of a cake purveyor in Camberville that carries 2 kinds of tasty cakes.

1. Wheat free
2. Dairy free

They don't have to be both, I'd be happy to get one of each. Extra happy hostess points for Chocolate.(mmm, flourless chocolate cake...)

Thank you hounds -

Boston chowhound in Paris (mini- report ... procrastinated)

I know! - it was the vegetarian entree...

Boston chowhound in Paris (mini- report ... procrastinated)

I've been meaning to post this since March - hope it's helpful!

***
With help from the Chowhound France board and a few books, one of the major goals of our two week vacation in Paris was to eat ourselves silly. Luckily we were near the rue Monge in the 5eme and had a small apartment with kitchen. We came a little late to the amazingly flaky buttery croissants of Pascal Pinaud on the rue Monge, but once found, we had them nearly every morning. We'd noticed the pastries before and kept a steady stream of them coming and the tradi was also quite tasty. A nearby charcuterie, market and in a pinch, Franprix gave us a good base.

The my coffeehound mom found her fix at le Cactus on rue Linne. Good coffee and friendly service kept her going back, along with the fun of watching the neighborhood stop by for morning coffees.

For going out, the budget wasn't high but we were able to get some fine meals in. Creperie Pot O' Lait just off rue Monge had crispy, tasty galettes and tender crepes. We went back for a flambee.

We managed to stop in at the last day of the Foire Agricole and looked at cows and sheep and ate some tasty duck foie and tasted fine cognac.

Maoz felafel on rue St. Andre des Arts hit the spot at least 3 times - Though it's an international chain, we were happy to find good falafel!

5 Saveurs D'Anada in the Mouffetard area for the Vegetarian - not super exciting, but lots of veggies and some interesting textures to the tofu/seitan/tempeh trio

The Omnivores made it to the Biche au Bois on rue Rollu. It's a bustling little place that is only open for dinner on weekdays. My coq au vin was gamier than my DC's duck and it was all good. My ile flottant was the best I'd ever had - so light and moist. 2 menus and a bottle of wine was well under 100 euros.

Jardin des Pates in our neighborhood (rue Lacipede) hit the spot for the Vegetarian with the rice noodles and tofu, but the chestnut noodles that came with the duck entree were cardboard-like. The appetizers were good crudites.

Pulcinella in Montmartre was suggested by Clotildes Edible Adventures, but the pasta was heavy if tasty and one DC did not like her peas. The waitress didn't seem to want us there anyway - even before the pea incident...

Maceo was the end of vacation blowout that kept all 3 diners happy. Great food and service in a spacious dining room. The Vegetarian enjoyed the "menu vert" and the Omnivores enjoyed their foie (among many other tasty treats)

Merci, Paris! and les Chowhounds

Food Trucks @ City Hall

I got in line for a bahn mi at Momogoose, but the line was not moving (the press seemed to be a distraction), so I had to push past Mayor & entourage to get a falafel sandwich from Clover. I was pretty happy with it. No bag, so it was gone by the time I got to work .

Darulkabab - Another neat addition to the Indo-Pak Scene

Went vegetarian for our first take-out after noticing that we'd be surrounded by televisions if we stayed (though at least one is bollywood style videos) - malai kofta and some kind of veggie dish and some paratha. Paratha was a little dry, veggies oddly smoky/spiced but ok and the kofta were oversalted and not very tasty. Oh well.

February Openings and Closings

Rice flour ideas?

Somehow I ended up 2 1/2 bags of Red Mill rice flour and am short on ideas and interesting recipes that look like they might work.

So far I've dredged some mashed potato croquettes in it, and I've got a not so successful attempt at kimchee pancakes on my place (egg, water, flour, kimchee)

Any ideas lovely 'hounds?

Rod Dee Porter Square: Progress?

Stopped by a little while ago and they were open. It still smelled a little of varnish and I just picked up a menu, but was able to tell them how I'd missed the Rod Dee since I moved from Brookline. Yay!

November Openings and Closings

No answer today either. I was hoping to go tomorrow :(

D'Guru Indian review

I was in today too - Lamb and spinach - super tasty. This time was the sponge-y naan (last time I had the roti and salty potatoes) I managed to save 1/2 & the rice for tomorrow, but it was hard! I am also not a fan of the amount of plastic involved.

D,Guru...Indian in FD

I visited D'Guru yesterday and tried to order the saag, but was foiled by my own soft talking and got the potato dish - which had nice spicing, but was quite salty. The chana dal was tasty, the rice a little dry and I think the bread was roti. I won't go back right away, but I'll go back :)

Little Q Hotpot Truly Superb

I briefly considered how they might do it - but decided I'd be perfectly happy to go out for hot pot. The menu they left on our doorstep did have the hot pot section (which was how I convinced my DC to go - evidence of many veggies)

Little Q Hotpot Truly Superb

Finally made it over with my vegetarian DC - who was very happy with miso broth and such a wide selection of veggies - various fresh mushrooms, lotus root, broccoli, tofu, etc... Yum. They had dropped off a menu for takeout delivery at our apartment, though I can't imagine hot pot can be delivered! Unfortunately the Szechuan menu did not have much for vegetarian options.

July Openings and Closings

Ooh- this would be great! It's one of the things I miss from living in Brookline, though I like Camberville a lot.

May openings and closings

Heard on LJ that Istanbul'lu is open in Teele Square, Somerville as a reincarnation of Cafe Istanbul - Can't wait to get over there...

Chacarero v. Zo: drug of choice?

I Zo it more often because it's closer to work and I like the vegetarian sandwiches and the spinach pies too. But I probably swing by Chacarero at least twice a month (chicken for me) Yum yum.

Zo - Greek Lunch Spot in Center Plaza

Finally got over and tried the pork gyro - tasty, but too salty. They recommended the chicken one and I'll be back for that. The mozzarella sandwich was decent and today I went for a nice little lentil soup. I like the squishy pita bread.

Cafe Latino - Center Plaza, Boston

It looks like Cafe Latino is being replaced by a Greek restaurant/lunch spot called "Zo". - I'm going to miss my crispy pork skin!

Marty's Liquors in Allston is closing

No way! It used to be around $4.

Marty's Liquors in Allston is closing

That's too bad - though my favorite thing to get there was the enormous jar of Dijon Maille - and they didn't have it last time I looked. Does anyone know of an alternative place to get the giant jar?

Puerto Rican?

I love the skin - sometimes if you peek at the the pile of pork you can see a pig's head in it.

Puerto Rican?

Cafe Latino - I've only had the roasted pork - it's salty and tasty and takes me 2 days to eat it.

Belmont CSA winter share?

I'm planning to join, but only have second hand feedback from my neighbor who seemed happy with it. He said that they got a lot of food, though the last installment was lighter than the first two. This site lists what kind of stuff we could get at the bottom of the page.

Giovanna gelato is here! (and it's good)

I picked up a pint at North Cambridge Capone's the other day - Dolce de Leche - very rich and tasty.
