Where to buy duck confit in Calgary?

After a few month of shopping around I found the following duck confits in Calgary:

1) Bite groceteria in Inglewood had the truly delicious Rougie confit from Quebec. Not cheap though.
2) The Green eggs and Ham farm store in Crossroad farmer market sells another excellent confit and it comes with lots of duck fat for making your 'pommes Sarladaises'. A great deal!
3) L'epicerie also had very good confit but again on the expensive side.
4) Second to none meats does sell the Brome confit which is good but just not my favorite. Again it is a matter of personal taste.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Where to buy duck confit in Calgary?

I know homemade is best... my sister used to raise ducks on her farm just for the family. Those confits were the absolute best!

Thanks! I will check out Valbella.

Where to buy duck confit in Calgary?

Not so long ago I was living in Montreal where duck confit can be found in just about any grocery store. Here in Calgary, I tried the Noble farm duck confit (bought it at Cookbooks) but I find it was not tender enough, tastes great though.

Grocery stores close to where I live do not carry it. Anybody knows where I could buy great duck confit in Calgary? Any brand except the Brome lake...
Thanks!

Need recs for coming Wine Club trip to Ogunquit

Hello,

I have taken the responsability of cooking the first dinner for our trip to Ogunquit next weekend but I have no idea where to buy food there. I was looking for a good place to buy great quality seafood close by. Can you help me? I heard of the Wells Lobster pound but the reviews I read were not that consistent.

lso I need recs for restaurants with a good wine list, not too far from Ogunquit (dont' worry we have 2 designated drivers!), that are more casual and would be great for a group of 10 noisy wine enthousiast.

Thanks for any help!

Birthday in Edmonton....

I will be in Edmonton for business next week (first time!) and I will also get to celebrate my birthday there, unfortunately by myself.

So...I need suggestions on a good place to eat a great birthday dinner to cheer myself up a bit. Ideally a place where a woman alone reading a book while eating is not a strange sight.

Thanks

Where to buy Sucre à la crème

I have a friend from South America who fell in love with "Sucre à la crème" and wants to take some back home. I tried making some myself but it really did not turn out well.

I bought some St-Julie brand "Sucre à la crème" at the grocery store and it was good (though not as good as the stuff my mother use to make). I am hoping for even better. Where could I get some of that great sweet stuff in Montreal ,ideally nicely packaged for international travel ?

Larkspur for 2 more nights...need some more recs

Bonjour,

I am in Larkspur on business for another 2-3 days and I have exhausted options near the Marriott. I am willing to drive to somewhere else for a good meal but not too far as I have to get up real early to come into work in the morning. Thanks for any help!

Pleasant lunch at La Gaudriole

We showed up for lunch at la Gaudriole at a spur of the moment thing. We had no expectation and what a great find it was. There was not too many people maybe because it was a holiday.

I had the salad with pistachio vinaigrette which was delicious. Then followed an excellent portobello veal ragout with some perfectly cooked vegetables. My husband had the fish wish was also great. The table d'hote included dessert, and I had the brown sugar diplomate and my husband, the fruit salad. Both desserts were very good.

All this for a very reasonable price.

Also for wine they offer decent 500ml selection wich is great. For lunch a bottle is way too much for us byt 500ml is the perfect amount.

Absolute disaster at buffet Vichy

UnfortunateIy our easter family lunch happened today at the Vichy buffet on Jean Talon east. There were 8 adults and 6 kids in our group and we have elected this place "the most horrible buffet experience ever in Montreal" unanimously.

First the plates were not cleaned properly and they always seem to run out of them. The food selection was large but there were very few appealing ones. There was this chicken bone " ragout ", the undercooked fish and chips, unidentified meatballs with 2 different sauces (or maybe 2 batches!!!). Even the green jello was a 2 phase sorry thing.

My sister who organised the whole thing wanted to crawl under the table. I just hope nobody gets sick after this. I am not going to any buffet for another year, good or bad, just in case.

President Restaurant

I have been a few times but all I know is that it is on Marcel-Laurin (almost at the end of it close to Laval on the west side of the street)

Need recs for Saturday dinner close to MIT in Cambridge

And you are right in thinking so! My son loves sushi, dim sum and ,when I think of it, basically any food that tastes great! The only things he really dislikes are squash and eggplant!

Need recs for Saturday dinner close to MIT in Cambridge

I will, I will! I really appreciated this discussion and thanks for everyone's input. After taking it over with mum, she seemed extremely tempted by the Blue Room (I think she saw a french word somewhere on the menu and since she only speaks french it helped!!!) . My son on the other hand voted for Mulan so we actualy may end up there for the second night. This is going to be interesting!

Many Thanks! Just did a search and lots of things turned up. That Blue room sounds great from the web site. Any particularly interesting item to try on their menu?

Need recs for Saturday dinner close to MIT in Cambridge

I am taking my mother and my 16 year old son to Boston and we will be staying at the Cambridge Residence Inn. We won't have a car. I am looking for a restaurant close to the hotel for Saturday night because by dinnertime, my mother will probably be very tired from a day of walking. It also has to be a casual dress place (but please no fast food joint!) otherwise my crazy mother will refuse to go. I think everyone is open to just about anything except for heavily fried foods! Have any ideas?

BYOW but in Quebec city

A stiff penalty! Our crazy wine club organized a few dinners at a "regular" restaurant a few years back and we had to leave with the empty bottles afterward. I really don't think we would try that again if it can put someone's business in trouble.

BYOW but in Quebec city

I am going to Quebec city this weekend and would appreciate very much recommendations on good BYOW resto where I could take my beloved wine fanatic husband. In Montreal, we always end up going to BYOW restos but somehow never in Quebec city.

L'Astral in Quebec City

I am planning to take my 2 teenagers to Quebec city for a weekend. I wanted to try the revolving restaurant at the top of the Loews hotel as a fun thing to do with them. Is it very expensive and is it any good? Is it better to go there for brunch?

Thanks for any hints...

President restaurant

We drive all the way to this restaurant from our Lachine office for lunch once in a while for great shrimp dumplings and other delicious Dim Sum stuff. It is a very good place.

Quebec City La closerie...looking for one review

I went there last weekend and I agree: its good but there are much better places in Quebec city. Also the atmosphere is kind of inexistent.

Opinions on O’Thym

I like O'Thym. I have to say I live extremely close to the place... so often I go there out of pure lazyness. But so far it has always been very good.
