Gold Coast- recommendations

Spending a week in Gold Coast at the end of June- looking for some restaurant, coffee places and fish market recommendations.

First Time Visit From SF to Hong Kong & Singapore

Tim Ho Wan in my experience (only been once) is good for your everyday dim sum but if you are wanting to try something special/not your everyday then would go to the more higher end places- I tried Lung King Heen at the Four Seasons which I found very good.

Hi pats- try 18 Grams for good esspresso type beverages. They do a good flat white. they have several outlets around Hong Kong and Kowloon.

Special Occasion Restaurant- Hong Kong

Have managed a window table at Caprice for dinner on 1 January and also a window table for lunch on 3 january at Lung King Heen.

Just read the Michellin rating for Caprice which has downgraded to 2 star.

Hong Kong Coffee

Any of these coffee places make a New Zealand Flat White?

Special Occasion Restaurant- Hong Kong

Thanks PhilD- budget no problem. Probably not Cantonese as just the 2 of us.

In terms of special a mixture of what you have mentioned- but the view and great food would be top of list.

Special Occasion Restaurant- Hong Kong

Looking for a special occasion restaurant in Hong Kong for dinner for 2 people. Open to any type of cusine but the place needs to have something special- celebrating 20th Wedding Anniversary.

Will be dining on January 1 2014.

Flat White in Los Angeles

Flat White

A flat white is similar to a latte and is mostly served in Australia and New Zealand. The drink is prepared, like a latte, with espresso and milk. The main difference between a latte and a flat white is the ratio of milk and espresso.

The flat white has less milk than a latte and usually a bit less foam on top. Unlike many people think, the flat white does have foam on top. Foaming milk whilst steaming gives the milk a creamier flavour so it’s recommended to always foam the milk, even when it’s just a little bit.

Be prepared to be served a latte without foam when ordering a flat white in most places.

According to some people a flat white should be made with milk just off boiling. However, be aware that the taste of milk changes above certain temperatures and therefore the recommended temperature is around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius.

Thanks for the great recommendations- can you recommend a place to go that is like the old American diners (50's style) with the big counter and booths? We will have a vehicle so getting to places wont be a problem.
