Dinner with the parents
My boyfriend and I are taking our parents out to dinner next week. We also are looking for comfort, so that settled the Il Mulino prospect. We've tossed around Bouley and Il Giglio also. We took them out to Lupa last year, which they loved. I think we're looking at about $75pp and because we've got the parents we'd prefer red-sauce Italian or French. Just looking for some new ideas or feedback on the two we have in mind.
Rooftop Bars in Manhattan
230 Fifth.
And yeah, it can be cheesy but the roof is huge, the seating is plentiful and the view is awesome.
NY 'Hound in town for one night
I will be in town for one night with my boyfriend next week and I'm looking for a recommendation for dinner. We will eat any cuisine and our price range is about $40 pp, without tax and tip. I'd like a place where we don't need a reservation in case plans change and the dress is nice, but by no means fancy. Just looking for a don't-miss kind of place.
Thanks :)
Dinner suggestion near Rice to Riches?
You could hit Ed's Lobster bar for great lobster rolls and fries. Decent beer and wine selection, casual place.
Crazy cheap dinner
Meeting up with a friend for dinner tomorrow night-we like to try to see how cheap we can be when we meet up for dinner and our usual spots are Kenka on Saint Marks and Gnocco Cucina on E. 10th. I'd like to branch out a bit tomorrow and try a new spot. I was thinking Great New York Noodletown (extra awesome because it's BYOB) but I'm looking for a few more possibilities because my friend is MSG sensitive. I'd like to stay below 23rd, and I am in love with the idea of BYOB right now. We'd like to spend no more than $20 each. Please, someone show me more options that Kenka and Gnocco.
Any Dessert Truck sightings?
Saw the truck last week around 6. You might just want to try to hit it a little earlier.
Dinner near Pegu Club
My neighborhood! Lupa gets a big thumbs up but it can be hard to get in. Hundred Acres on Macdougal would be a nice place for a group of girlfriends. Prices are very good and the service was great. We had a very delicious trio of bruschetta that I'd go back for over and over and I also really enjoyed the rabbit dish. Also, Ama is right on that block and that's a place I love to go with my girls for reasonable fresh Italian.
Jersey Boys Broadway show - dinner
Etcetera Etcetera on W. 44th is very solid Italian. The service was fantastic and very attentive when we ate there, and it's a relaxed atmosphere. They also have a prix fixe menu at dinner time for $35. Becco on W. 46th is also nice before a show, they have a good wine list and excellent pastas. It's nice to sit upstairs there.
Fun drinks and food for 21st birthday
My little brother is finally turning 21. His big sister is very much a wine gal, while he goes to school in Miami and is very much in tune with what is trendy and loves his cocktails. I'd like to take him out to dinner Thursday night, possibly for small plates and special cocktails. He's working in midtown west, and he'll need to make it to Grand Central that evening, so I'd like to stay in midtown but east or west can work. I'd ideally like to spend no more than $150 for three of us.
Thanks.
Lunch with Girl Friends... where??
I had a very tasty, fresh lunch at Market Table. Everything was yummy and satisfying.
Wine bar in the afternoon
I have friends coming in from out of town tomorrow, and I'd like to take them somewhere tomorrow afternoon to have a glass of wine and snacks. I'd prefer the E/WV or Soho, but I can be flexible. I'm a big fan of the wine and snacks at 'ino, but I'd like to try something a little different.
Foodie friends visiting...
Peasant is delicious. Have you thought about Lupa? I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a recommendation for Crispo. I'd skip it.
Damn you Artichoke!
Thinking of taking a walk over there tonight but with the hit or miss hours, just wondering if they'd still be serving around 11. Anyone even know?
Blood Orange juice-where to buy?
Recently bought some from Gristedes. It was in the refrigerated section for about $4.49.
Best Moules Frites in Manhattan?
I had very very tasty mussels at Petite Abeille recently. Their are a few different locations around the city. The fries were nice, too. Crispy outside, but nice and fluffy inside. I was pleasantly surprised, because we had only stopped by for a quick beer but they looked so good!
Mother daughter weekend - in need of some adventures
Market Table does a really nice fresh brunch beyond your standard eggs and french toast. Nice setting, pretty decent service. I just a tasty lunch there with my mom.
Fun dinner near PATH station
Meeting up with friends for a fun dinner before we head to Jersey for a party. I'd like to be close to the Christopher or 9th street PATH. One in our party is vegetarian, but nobody is picky. BLT Burger and Gobo were already overruled. I'd like to keep it around 20 pp.
Short weekend in LI
Taking a very short weekend trip out to Oyster Bay from Manhattan this weekend. Looking to fellow CHers to steer me in the direction of a place for a delicious dinner. I'd like to have a nice bottle of wine and unwind with my boyfriend. We're looking to spend about $150 total and we're VERY flex about the cuisine, although we're both a little played out on the Italian these days.
Also, just wondering if anyone has a favorite vineyard out there and can give some reccomendations on that front as well.
Thanks!
Annoying phone call with BarFry employee
I had the same thing happen there recently. Dropped by on a Saturday afternoon with a friend on a whim and were pleased to see happy hour specials. For our first round, we were charged the regular drink price. Thought that was pretty strange. Seeing now that it's happened more than once is pretty interesting.
Otto Recs?
I think the texture of the pizza crust is sad. The pasta dishes are okay, but there are so many other places that have amazing pastas that it's not worth having them at Otto. That being said, I do love the antipasti--the prosciutto is excellent and very fresh. The brussels sprouts, the broccoli and the cauliflower are tasty. And don't miss the octopus with lovage-really nice light flavors.
And obviously, the olive oil coppetta (changes frequently) is ALWAYS awesome.
Upstairs at 21
I can't speak for the food, but we had drinks at the bar recently, and whew was the service awful. Condescending bartender who was really unwilling to help a group of 4. She basically laughed in my friends face when he asked what her specialty drink was. Yuck.
Frustration Booking Babbo!
They're not taking the phone off the hook, you just need to start calling a few moments before 10 am, or around 1-2pm (lunchtime). Always a good idea to show up in person with a smile.
Cheap Eats for visiting College students
'ino in the WV for panini and bruschetta, The Dumpling Man, Fatty Crab is fun for groups and not too pricy when split up, Gnocco Cucina, and they shouldn't miss brunch in the city-always fun. Essex, Mercadito Grove, The Sunburnt Cow are cheap and they offer unlimited drinks-usually a very enticing deal for college kids.
Need cool/trendy restaurant lounge for teen birthday
THOR at The Hotel On Rivington, has a sizable dining room and they have a DJ who spins a really decent mix of music on weekends. We went with a group of 8 and one of the reasons we ended up at THOR was they could accommodate us easily. The menu has a lot of good small plates and I think they would appeal to a group of (sophisticated) teens. The waitstaff seemed kind of distracted, but overall the space is fun and the food is too.
Buddakan might also appeal to the teens. Asian food is usually something everyone likes. The menu has lots of options for sharing plates. They also have a good space. Very dramatic.
I remember from going out when I was that age that it was almost impossible to be turned away, as long as you had a prior reservation. Might wanna call and make sure what the situation is now, though.
Best oyster place in Fairfield County?
The Black Rock Oyster Bar (Fairfield) has a great selection. Very friendly waitstaff, too.
Caffe Grazie, advice please
yes. Used to be pretty decent...used to go there a lot when we were in high school for family dinners and girls nights. Haven't been in awhile. Would love to hear how it is now.
Best bagels/bialys in LES/EV?
I am SO glad to hear that the bialys at R&D are not fresh on Saturdays, because I had my first today and was totally disappointed. It makes sense now, and I'll make sure to get back there for a fresh one soon.
