Will report back afterward. ^^

4 Courses for $40 @ SCP 07/25/08-08/03/08

I never really go to OC and don't know any of these restaurants.
So can someone make a recommendation, please?
If I can only try 1 of these restaurants, which one would be the best choice?
Thanks.

PF Chang's "Free entree" ad on Chound - THE CATCH

I just got my free entree gift card last week. Went last weekend and had a $21 steak entree for free.

What ELSE to get at Mei Long Village?

I second the Lion's Head Meatballs. This is a must get dish at Mei Long Village!

Sushi at 11pm?

There's a Korean owned sushi place called Kuru Kuru at the corner of Wilshire and Alexandria in Korea Town. They open till 12am and serve sushi on those roatating belt table. Plates are $1, $2 or $3. From 11pm~12am everything is 50% off. You can have 20 pieces of sushi for $5. It's not the best sushi. But I won't complain with that price.

It's time for Taiwan Fest!

The 3rd one was a vegetarian stand. They served Taiwanese style vegetarian bento.

It's time for Taiwan Fest!

I was there yesterday and was quite disappointed about the food. There were only 3 Taiwanese food stands. The rest were Thai, Korean, Mexican, Chinese (from Mainland) and kettle corn. The Taiwanese stands all had long line. We didn't bother with the food and just went to Olvera Street for lunch.

Chinese Banquet in Pacific Palm resort

I went to a Chinese wedding there last year. The food was alright. But we were really full. I took some not so good pictures of the dishes if you are interested:

Need SGV Chinese rec for Sunday evening

I like both restaurants. Just went to Newport on Friday. We had Lobster with Ginger and Green Onions (5 lbs!), French Style Beef Loc Lac, Fillet Fish with Basil, Clam with Basil and Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce. We love all the dishes, especially the lobster. 4 of us was super full with tons of leftover. The meal cost $108 before tip. Please note this place is cash only.

When I go to Mei Long Village, I just need xiao long bao, Lion's Head and 3 bowls of rice. You must must get Lion's Head (aka giant pork meat balls).

Urasawa - World-Class Excellence in L.A.! [Review] w/ Pics

OMG! Great great great great review. This restaurant is pricy, but seems well worth its price. Boyfriend and I really want to go to Urasawa, but we just don't have this kind of money to spend. So we've decided to try to save up for a whole year then have a super fancy meal toward the end of the year. If we save enough, definately will be going to Urasawa. ^^

Melisse - good, but not great

Thanks for the review. Boyfriend and I are saving money so we can experience Melisse's Michelin's stars, but after reading your review I'm having second thought. Should we just try Providence or Bastide instead? One more question, would you recommend Providence or Bastide? Thanks.

Good and Bad Pho in the San Gabriel Valley

Please avoid Pho Super Bowl. I had the worst pho there. Not only the pho's bad, their bun is horrible as well.

casual, interesting date place w/ potential for a quiet walk afterward

I recnetly had a meal with boyfriend at Sawtelle Kitchen. It's a cute little Japanese/Italian restaurant. The food is pretty good. Price is reasonable. And it's a cozy place with dim light.

After your meal, you and date can walk around Sawtelle Blvd. Or if you prefer a quiter walk, just walk around the residential area next street over. We often park our car in the residential area. After dinner, we enjoy a nice walk to our car.

Best Sag Paneer?

I really like the Sag Paneer at Anarkali on Melrose. You can decide how spicy you want the dish to be. I personally like it pretty spice. It was so good with the rice and nann bread.

Las Vegas Trip

After doing more research, we decided to change 2nd night's dinner to Rosemary's Restaurant. Reading the great review on Yelp makes me drool.

Las Vegas Trip

There's no Las Vegas board, so I hope it is ok for me to post this here.

Boyfriend and I are taking a 3 days trip to Vegas. Here is my initial eating plan:

Friday (leaving LA in the morning)
Lunch @ Wynn Buffet.
Dinner @ Lotus of Siam.
Late night @ Mix Lounge (Mandalay Bay)

Saturday
Late breakfast @ Blueberry Hill Family Restaurant
Dinner 1 @ Bouchon (Venetian): Dish to order - Petit Plateau ($58) and wine
Dinner 2 @ Bubble Bar (Caesars Palace: Dish to order - Guy Savoy's 4 items small bite ($40) and champagne
Watch a show
If not too tired after th show, go to Peppermill lounge bar.

Sunday
Brunch buffet @ Planet Hollywood's
Then head back to LA.

What do you guys think of the restaurant choices?
Any more suggestions? Or suggestion on dishes to order at these places?
Thanks in advance~~~~

Best steaks in L.A.?

I like porterhouse from Taylor's. But I love their lamb even more. They only offer lamb on Saturday night though.

Takeout Food in Korea Town

Thank you guys for all the great suggestions! I'll be trying all those restaurants soon.

NEED GIRL SCOUT COOKIES

I just bought some Thin Mints last Saturday! The cutest girl scouts were selling cookies inside Santa Anita Mall in Arcadia inside the food court entrance.

Takeout Food in Korea Town

I started a new job in Korea Town (Wilshire/Vermont area) working night shift. My "lunch" hour is from 8~9PM. I like to get takeout food to bring back to the office to eat. I would love to get some recommendation for delicious and not too expansive takeout option around the area. Thanks!

Hollywood + Convertible + 4 hours

Koreatown is about 10~15 minutes away from Hollywood. You can definately get something spicy, delicious, interesting and cheap over there. Since you are going late in the afternoon and want to walk around a bit, I would recommend Koreatown Galleria. There's a food court upstair with tons of yummy food to choose from. The 1st floor consists of Korean shops. Then the basement is a Korean supermarket. Plenty of stuff to explore for a few hours.

I also like Tama sushi. The omakase was really good.

Yujean Kang's in Pasadena

Sorry... this is just my suggestion...

If your family is coming from Taiwan to visit, I would think they get plenty of delicious & authentic Chinese food over there. Why not take them to try something they won't usually get in Taiwan (something that's not Chinese)?

Chinatown February7th

I'm not sure about restaurants in Chinatown, but quite a few Chinese restaurant in the SGV offer Chinese New Year banquet dinner. My family and relatives are going to J.Z. Restaurant for a 12 courses banquet dinner for $128.

Oh and just to let you know, we usually have the big family dinner for Chinese New Year on New Year's Eve. So a lot of the Chinese restaurants will be crowded on Feb 6.

dineLA reports

I went to Asia De Cuba for lunch last Sunday with bf. We had:

Appetizer:
1) Lemongrass Skewered Chicken: My favorite dish of the whole meal! Chicken was grilled on a stick of lemongrass, served with coconut chili sauce. It was so delicious!
2) Braised Pulled Pork Empanadas: It's good, but nothing special.

Main Course:
1) Miso Cured Alaskan Butterfish: Delicious. Very well done. Fish was soft and creamy with a hint of miso.
2) Cuban BBQ Chicken: Surprisingly good. Tender & juicy chicken breast with Cuban BBQ sauce. The Thai sticky rice side was yummy.

Dessert:
1) Cuban Opera: Huge piece of chocolate cake + coffee mousse with a side of coffee ice cream. It was so good I had to finish it all.
2) Sorbet of the Day: The flavor we were served on that day was coconut strawberry. Tons of fresh strawberry in the sorbet, but a bit too sour for my taste.

It was such a good deal for $22. I would definately go back again.

Has probably been discussed: Good quality, moderate priced sushi in LA?

Tama Sushi is great with very affordable omakase.
They have 3 different omakase, $35, $45 and $55.

Cambodian Food

Battambang Seafood Restaurant

Cambodian food is very similar to Chinese food, but with more of a sweet/sour taste to it. I really like the dish "Beef Lok Lak". This restaurant also offer "House Special Crab" for only $12. It's really good.

Newport Beach Restaurant Week 2008--which restaurant are you going to try?

Boyfriend and I went to The Cannery for lunch. We had:

1st course:
(1) New England Clam Chowder: Portion is tiny. But the chowder is rich and delicious.
(2) Panko-Crusted Crab Cake: One giant crab cake full of yummy crab meat, served with mango sauce. The plate was hot, but the crab cake was cold. It was still good though.

2nd course:
(1) Cannery Seafood Salad: Crab, Lobster, Shrimp, Scallops with Citrus Vinaigrette. Delicious.
(2) "Brendon’s Filet" Tournedos: Cooked perfectly. Very tasty.

3rd course:
(1) Chocolate Molten Cake: On the menu, it was supposed to be Creme Burlee Trio, but they ran out. Chocolate Molten Cake was very rich. Too rich for boyfriend so he only had a few bite. But I finished the whole cake and wanted some more. haha..

Seafood in Pasadena?

I went to Cafe Santorini for a friend's birthday. It's a Mediterranean restaurant. They offer lots of seafood dishes. I especially like their Shrimp Saltado, Grilled Calamari, High Temperature Seared Pacific Seafod Salad and Santorini Lamb Souvlaki. They have a nice patio where you can sit (with heat lamp in the winter). Great restaurant with fabulous food and reasonable price.
