There's an outdoor vendor at Marché Atwater that sells bottles from an Eastern Township winery. |

Suggestions? 80th Bday Dinner 10-15 Budget Conscious Funny, I thought of Mary Mac, too! I don't know if you consider Italian-American ethnic, but we've had large family gatherings at Maggiano's. The atmosphere is very festive with huge servings for sharing. It is a Chicago chain, but the food pleases everyone. |

Lemeac on Laurier is great after 10pm! Chalk it up to individual tastes! We didn't complain since it just didn't meet our expectations. All the dishes were competent, but just didn't have any nuance. They presented well and looked promising initially. At $27 each, the quality matched the price, rather than exceeded. DH is normally a glass-half-full kind of guy, but he could not find anything positive to say. He even noticed the 70s vibe from the chunky brown stone floors and faux wood-paneled divider wall. On a previous trip to Montreal, we had a wonderful meal at Milo's after 10. The dining room was elegant, wait staff was professional and helpful. The meal was top notch and felt special, even at the amazingly low price point. This trip wasn't all negative. My Friday lunch at 400 Coups was excellent -- fabulous in-season and local selections executed at such a high level. The staff was very welcoming and kind to someone dining alone at the bar. The bartender suggested Kaza Maza for Lebanese tapas when I asked for recommendations near the park. It was a fun and delicious experience! |

Best Casual Dining under $40, Atlanta Decatur is great for smaller groups. Parking and reservations can be difficult since restaurant space and parking is limited. The Brick Store is great if you hang out for beers, but the food is average, at best. That's right, I said it, average food! |

Lemeac on Laurier is great after 10pm! We dined there on our last evening in Montreal, based on recs on Chowhound. We were seriously underwhelmed. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes? Salmon pot au feu, warm salad, vegetable tian, crab cakes. Everything was completely under-seasoned and lacked any hint of flavor. It was the first time I peppered AND salted everything at a restaurant. The pot au feu tasted watered down with butter for enhancement. The entree salad lacked any tart notes to balance the greasy dressing with lardons. I almost fell asleep making my way through the monotonous pile of greens. The tian tasted like a veggie lasagna... without pasta, sauce, marscapone or seasoning. And last, but not least, the crab cake. It was full of fillers and not too different than what you'd get at a mediocre steak house. To top it all off, the waitress was impatient and obviously not thrilled to be serving all the after-10 cheapskates. She disappeared halfway through our meal. A different waitress brought our check. It was not a good farewell to Montreal! |

Attending McGill next year, give me some essentials! Just got back from a week long stay near Guy-Concordia station. The bakery in the station has irresistible Asian breads for about a buck each. The bagel place and Thai eatery in the Faubourg shopping center on Catherine is inexpensive and really good, albeit a bit depressing. |

Best Casual Dining under $40, Atlanta How about tapas at Eclipse de Luna on Miami Circle? Or modern Southern at Serpas in Old Fourth Ward? The Vortex for burgers and tots is well under $40 and a lot of fun with a huge beer selection. |

The Perimeter area is pretty much all chains. You are near the mall, after all. if you travel further west on 285, you can find more local flavor. Canoe is a seafood restaurant over looking the Chattahoochee river. Horseradish Grill is upscale southern. OK Cafe is a local favorite for breakfast. Flying Biscuit is in the same shopping center. It's a local chain that serves breakfast all day. I've only eaten at the quaint original location, so not sure how well the spinoffs work. Uncle Julio's sounds like a fun place, but they are not food-centric -- as Mexican as Olive Garden is to Italian. For something truly authentic and slightly adventurous, head a bit south on 285 to Taqueria El Ray Del Taco on Buford Highway. Handmade corn tortillas, tongue tacos and Spanish-speaking patrons. |

Yes, I've been burned by Yelp before. It's chock full of questionable five star reviews, but still fairly reliable. For a dish under $10 (I'm guessing), it's not too big of a risk. |

Looking for it myself, after trying some made by Satay Brothers in Montreal. According to yelp, Malaya serves a good version, as well as Penang. Been to Penang a while back for other dishes and found the quality has declined. Malaya was very good years ago, so that may be your best bet on the west side. Let us know! |

Lovely sweet and savory baked goods, but in a hard-to-find location. When you see their sign, turn in the drive and around back. |
